Stepping out of my room early the next morning, I wasn't yet fully sober, but was now in my right senses. The events of the previous night were still a bit fuzzy, but I was slowly piecing them together. The memories of laughter, music, and dancing were still fresh in my mind, but the details of what happened after we left the club were still a bit hazy. That's when I saw Sophie leaving Max's room, her hair disheveled and her clothes from the night before still on. She gave me a casual "Hi" as she was setting her heels in place under her feet, her eyes avoiding mine. She looked like she had just rolled out of bed, and I couldn't help but wonder what had happened between her and Max. I was confused, my mind racing with questions. What was Sophie doing in Max's room? Had they gotten back together? Were they just hooking up? I didn't have time to ask any questions, as Sophie quickly made her way out of our apartment, leaving me alone with Max. I watched her go, my eyes fixed on the door she had just closed behind her. I was still trying to process what I had just seen, my mind reeling with possibilities. Max emerged from the kitchen area, carrying his tea cup, his eyes fixed on me. "Hey, Ryan," he said, his voice neutral, as if he knew I had seen Sophie leaving his room. I gave him a questioning look, my eyebrows raised. "What's going on, Max?" I asked, my voice laced with confusion. "What's going on with you and Sophie?" Max sighed, setting his tea cup down on the counter. "Don't think too hard about it, Ryan," he said, his voice laced with a hint of warning. "Sophie and I, we're just going to remain fuck buddies, that's what we agreed on." I raised an eyebrow, my mind still reeling with questions. "Fuck buddies?" I repeated, my voice laced with disbelief. "You're not going to take her back? After everything she did to you?" Max shook his head, his eyes firm. "No, Ryan. I'm not going to take her back. We're not meant to be in a relationship right now. But we still have a connection, and we're going to explore that." I shook my head, trying to process the information. "I don't get it, Max," I said, my voice laced with frustration. "You two were so in love, and now you're just going to be fuck buddies? How does that even work?" Max shrugged, his eyes nonchalant. "That's just how it is, Ryan. We're not meant to be in a relationship right now. But we still have a connection, and we're going to explore that. We're going to keep things casual, and see where it takes us." I sighed, shaking my head. "I don't know, Max. This all seems so confusing. You're not going to get hurt again, are you?" Max put a hand on my shoulder, his eyes serious. "Don't worry about it, Ryan. I know what I'm doing. And I promise you, I'm not going to get hurt again. I'm in control this time." I looked at him, searching for any sign of doubt or uncertainty. But Max's eyes were firm, his expression resolute. I nodded, finally understanding. "Okay, Max. I trust you." Max smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Thanks, Ryan. That means a lot to me." We stood there for a moment, the silence between us comfortable. Then Max spoke up, his voice laced with a hint of mischief. "Hey, Ryan?" "Yeah?" "Want to go out for breakfast? My treat." I grinned, feeling a sense of camaraderie with my brother. "Sure thing, Max. Let's go." We walked out of the apartment, the morning sun shining down on us. I was still a bit confused about what was going on between Max and Sophie, but I knew that Max was in control. And I was just happy to be along for the ride. I wasn't really a fan of their relationship in the first place, and the thought of them getting back together made my stomach turn. I had always thought that Sophie was bad news, and I didn't want Max to get hurt again. She had a way of manipulating him, of making him do what she wanted, and I knew that he wasn't strong enough to resist her charms. And as for their plan to just be fuck buddies, I didn't trust it one bit. Max wasn't really the strong type emotionally, and I knew that he might end up falling in love with Sophie again. As we got to the restaurant, we made our order and sat down at a table by the window. The sun was shining down on us, and the atmosphere was lively and bustling. We started talking about the party last night, reliving the highlights and laughing about our antics. "Man, I can't believe we did that," Max said, shaking his head in disbelief. "We're such playboys." "I know, right?" I replied, grinning. "We're living the dream." "Yeah, until we wake up with a hangover and a bunch of regrets," Max added, chuckling. We both laughed, enjoying the camaraderie and the feeling of being young and carefree. But as we continued to talk, I couldn't help but bring up the subject of Sophie. "Hey, Max, can I ask you something?" I said, my tone serious. "Sure, what's up?" Max replied, looking at me curiously. "I don't trust Sophie," I said, my words blunt. "I don't think she's good for you, and I don't think this whole fuck buddies thing is going to work out." Max sighed, his expression defensive. "Ryan, I know what I'm doing. I'm not going to get hurt again." "I hope not, man," I said, my voice laced with concern. "But you're not exactly the strongest person emotionally. And Sophie, she's...she's a manipulator. She's going to use you for her own gain, and then she's going to dump you again." Max shook his head, his eyes flashing with anger. "You don't know Sophie like I do, Ryan. She's not that bad. And besides, I can handle myself. I'm not going to let her hurt me again." I raised an eyebrow, my skepticism evident. "Really? Then why are you still hung up on her? Why are you still willing to give her a chance?" Max sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I don't know, Ryan. I just can't help how I feel. And besides, I thought we were past this. I thought we were just going to enjoy the moment and not worry about the future." I nodded, my expression softening. "Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry, man. I just don't want to see you get hurt again." Max smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I appreciate that, Ryan. But I think I can handle myself. Let's just enjoy the moment and not worry about the future, okay?" I nodded, my doubts still lingering in the back of my mind. But I knew that I had to trust Max's judgment, even if I didn't agree with it. So I let it go, and we continued to enjoy our breakfast and our playboy vibes, living in the moment and not worrying about the future. As we finished our meal and prepared to leave, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. I knew that Max was playing with fire, and I didn't want him to get burned. But I also knew that I couldn't control his actions, and that he had to make his own decisions. "Hey, Max," I said, as we walked out of the restaurant. "Just be careful, okay? I don't want to see you get hurt again." Max nodded, his expression serious. "I will, Ryan. I promise." I nodded, hoping that he would keep his promise. But as we walked away from the restaurant, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Max was heading for trouble. And I knew that I would be there to pick up the pieces when it all fell apart.
