Chapter 26: Goodbyes.

As we stood at the airport, surrounded by the people we had grown to love in Paris, Max and I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. We were excited to return home, but sad to leave behind the city and the people that had become our second family. The sound of planes taking off and landing in the background, the hustle and bustle of people rushing to their gates, and the smell of coffee and croissants wafting through the air all added to the sense of nostalgia that was settling in.
"Merci, merci, merci," Madame Dupont said, tears streaming down her face as she hugged us tightly. "You two have become like sons to me. I will miss you so much. You came to Paris as strangers, but you leave as family."
"We'll miss you too, Madame," Max said, his voice choked with emotion. "But we promise to return in a week, and we'll bring our women with us when traveling back. We'll show them the city we've come from, the place that made us who we are, and we'll start our new lives together."
"Yes, yes, yes," Lydia said, smiling through her tears. "We'll come with you, and we'll start our new lives together. We'll explore the city, and we'll make new memories together."
Marie nodded in agreement, her eyes shining with happiness. "We'll be there, Max. I promise. We'll make sure to pack our bags, and we'll be ready for our new adventure."
As we hugged each other tightly, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the experiences we had shared in Paris. We had come to the city as strangers, but we were leaving as friends, with the promise of a new life together. We had found love, laughter, and adventure in the city of light, and we knew that we would never forget it.
"I'll never forget this city, and the people in it," I said, my voice filled with emotion. "You've all become a part of me, and I'll carry you with me always. I'll never forget the way the sunlight hits the Eiffel Tower, the way the Seine River flows through the city, and the way the croissants taste at the local bakery."
Max nodded in agreement, his eyes shining with tears. "We'll never forget Paris, and the love we found here. We'll be back, that's a promise I'm hungry to keep. We'll show them the city we love, and we'll make new memories together."
As we said our goodbyes, Lydia and I shared a passionate kiss, our hearts filled with love and longing. Max and Marie did the same, their love for each other palpable in the air. We hugged each other tightly, promising to stay in touch and to return soon.
" Au revoir, Paris," Max said, his voice filled with emotion. "We'll be back soon. We'll make sure to visit Madame Dupont's restaurant, and we'll eat all the croissants we can find."
" Au revoir," I replied, smiling. "We'll be back. We'll make sure to explore the city, and we'll make new memories together, an unforgettable adventure."
As we boarded our flight, we couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for what the future held. We knew that our lives would never be the same again, and we were grateful for it. We had found our true loves in Paris, and we were ready to start our new lives together. We knew that we would always cherish the memories we had made in the city of light, and we knew that we would always be grateful for the love we had found.
As we stepped into our favorite club house, the lights and music enveloped us, and the familiar faces of our friends and acquaintances greeted us with warm smiles. We had thrown a party to celebrate our return, and it seemed like the whole town had come out to join us. The air was electric with excitement, and the smell of champagne and canapés wafted through the air, making our mouths water in anticipation.
Max and I made our way through the crowd, shaking hands and hugging friends, when suddenly, a familiar face appeared before us. Sophie, Max's ex-girlfriend, stood before us, her eyes fixed on Max with a pleading expression. She looked stunning in a red dress that hugged her curves in all the right places, but her beauty was overshadowed by the desperation in her eyes.
"Max, can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked, her voice laced with desperation. Her eyes darted to me, and then back to Max, as if she was unsure of how to proceed.
Max raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. "What is it, Sophie?" he asked, his voice firm but polite.
Sophie took a deep breath, her eyes welling up with tears. "I know I hurt you, Max. I know I made a mistake. But I want you to know that I'm sorry. I'm truly sorry for everything." Her voice cracked as she spoke, and her body trembled with emotion.
Max's expression remained unyielding, his eyes flashing with a hint of annoyance. "Sorry isn't enough, Sophie. You broke my trust, and you hurt me in ways you can't imagine." His voice was firm, but there was a hint of sadness in his eyes, a reminder of the pain she had caused him.
Sophie's face contorted in anguish, and she took a step back, as if she had been slapped. "I know, I know. But please, Max, just listen to me. I love you, and I want to make things right between us." Her voice was laced with desperation, and her eyes pleaded with him to forgive her.
Max sighed, his eyes flashing with annoyance. "Sophie, we've been over this. I've moved on. I'm engaged to someone who deserves me, someone who loves me for who I am." He held up his hand, his engagement ring glinting in the light, a symbol of his new life without her.
Sophie's eyes widened in shock, and she took a step back, as if she had been slapped. "Engaged?" she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes darted to me, and then back to Max, as if she was trying to process the information.
Max nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Yes, engaged. And I'm happy, Sophie. Truly happy. So, please, just leave me alone and let me live my life in peace." His voice was firm, but there was a hint of sadness in his eyes, a reminder of the pain she had caused him.
Sophie's face crumpled, and she burst into tears. "I'm so sorry, Max. I'm so sorry for everything." Her body trembled with emotion, and her eyes pleaded with him to forgive her.
Max's expression softened slightly, and he reached out to her. "Sophie, stop. Just stop. You need to move on, just like I have. We're not meant to be, and that's okay. We can both find happiness with other people." His voice was gentle, but firm, a reminder that he had moved on and was happy without her.
Sophie nodded, her tears subsiding. "You're right, Max. I'm sorry for everything. I'll leave you alone now." Her voice was barely above a whisper, and her eyes were red and puffy from crying.
