As we hustled around the restaurant, taking orders and serving dishes, Max and I would occasionally catch each other's eye and exchange a quick word or two. It was a busy day, with the lunch rush in full swing, and we were working together like a well-oiled machine, anticipating each other's moves and covering each other's backs. As we passed each other near the kitchen, Max whispered, "Hey, man, how's it going? You seem a little preoccupied." I nodded, wiping the sweat from my brow. "Yeah, I'm just trying to keep up with the pace. We're slammed today." Max nodded sympathetically. "I feel you. But hey, speaking of which, have you thought about getting Gabrielle a gift? You know, something special to show her how much you care?" I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the suggestion. "Actually, I was just thinking about that. But I'm not sure what to get her. Something fancy, but not too expensive. You know, middle class, not low class." Max grinned mischievously. "Well, I might have some ideas. Follow me." We both pretended to need to use the restroom and excused ourselves, making our way to the back of the restaurant. Once we were out of earshot, Max turned to me and said, "So, I got Marie this beautiful silver necklace on our last date. It was a real showstopper, and she loved it. I think Gabrielle might like something similar." I considered his suggestion, weighing the pros and cons. "That's not a bad idea. But I want something that's a little more personal, you know? Something that shows I've been paying attention to her interests and hobbies." Max nodded thoughtfully. "I get it. Well, what does Gabrielle like to do in her free time? Does she have any favorite hobbies or activities?" I thought back to our conversations, trying to recall any details that might help. "Actually, she mentioned that she loves art and music. She's always going to galleries and concerts in her free time. And she's also into fashion, she loves designer clothes and shoes." Max's eyes lit up. "Perfect! In that case, you should get her something related to art, music, or fashion. Maybe a painting or a sculpture by a local artist, or tickets to a concert or opera performance. Or maybe even a designer handbag or shoes." I was impressed by Max's suggestions, and I could tell that he was genuinely trying to help. "Thanks, man. You're a lifesaver. I think I'll go with the art piece. Do you know any good art dealers in the city?" Max smiled. "As a matter of fact, I do. My new customer friend Pierre is a great artist, and he's always looking for new buyers. I can introduce you to him, and he can show you some of his work. He's got a great eye for talent, and I'm sure he can find something that Gabrielle will love." I grinned, feeling grateful for Max's help. "Thanks, man. You're a true bro. I owe you one." Max clapped me on the back. "No problem, buddy. That's what brothers are for. Now let's get back to work before Madame fires us!" We both laughed and headed back out onto the floor, ready to tackle the rest of the day rush with renewed energy and enthusiasm. As I followed Max to his friend Pierre's art studio, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. I had been thinking about Gabrielle all day, and I couldn't wait to see her and surprise her with the beautiful art piece I had just purchased. The studio was located in a trendy part of town, and I could feel the creative energy emanating from the walls as we walked in. Pierre greeted us with a warm smile and showed us his latest works. I was blown away by the talent and skill that went into each piece, and I knew that I had to find the perfect one for Gabrielle. After what felt like hours of browsing, I finally found it - a stunning painting of a woman lost in thought, surrounded by vibrant colors and intricate patterns. It was as if the artist had captured Gabrielle's essence on canvas, and I knew that she would love it. I couldn't wait to see her reaction when I presented it to her. As I made my way to Gabrielle's house, my heart raced with excitement. I had been thinking about this moment all day, and I couldn't wait to see the look on her face when she saw the gift I had gotten her. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the neighborhood, and I felt a sense of peace wash over me as I walked up the path to her front door. But as I approached the house, I noticed a strange vehicle parked outside. It was a sleek black car with tinted windows, and it looked out of place in this quiet neighborhood. I felt a pang of curiosity, but I pushed it aside and made my way to the door. When I got to the door, I noticed that it was slightly ajar. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should knock or just go inside. But then I decided to just go in, assuming that Gabrielle had probably just forgotten to close the door all the way. As I entered the house, I was taken aback by the sight before me. Gabrielle was lying on her bed, naked and entwined with another man. They were both fast asleep, and the room was dimly lit, with only a faint glow coming from the moon outside. The air was thick with the scent of perfume and sweat, and I could feel the weight of their passion hanging heavy in the air. I felt like I had been punched in the gut. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Gabrielle, the woman I had fallen for, was in bed with another man. I felt a wave of anger and betrayal wash over me, and I didn't know what to do. I stood there for what felt like an eternity, my eyes fixed on the scene before me. I couldn't move, couldn't speak. I was frozen in shock and disbelief, my mind racing with questions and doubts. Who was this man? How long had this been going on? And why had Gabrielle lied to me about her feelings? Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I turned and walked out of the house, leaving Gabrielle and her lover to their sleep. I didn't know what the future held, but I knew that I would never be able to look at Gabrielle the same way again. The image of her in bed with another man was seared into my brain, and I couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal that had settled in my heart.
