Life at the restaurant had been proceeding with its usual rhythm, each person playing their assigned role like a well-oiled machine. Madame, the owner, was her usual kind and nurturing self towards Max and me, always making sure we had everything we needed to succeed. However, her demeanor towards Lydia was a different story altogether. She was always firm and commanding, never hesitating to put her foot down when necessary. Lydia, on the other hand, was her usual complex self. During work hours, she was a force to be reckoned with, always trying to get under my skin with her witty remarks and playful jabs. But as soon as the day's work was done, she would transform into a caring and supportive friend, always willing to lend a listening ear. As for me, I had undergone a significant transformation since meeting Gabrielle. Gone was the playboy who would charm his way into the hearts of multiple women at once. I had become more faithful, more devoted, and more committed to our relationship. Gabrielle had brought out a side of me that I never knew existed, and I was grateful for it. Max and Marie's relationship was also looking strong. They had a certain chemistry that was hard to ignore, and their interactions were always filled with laughter and joy. It was clear that they had a deep connection, and their relationship was built on a foundation of mutual respect and trust. They were the epitome of a perfect couple, and it was beautiful to see. As for the customers, they still couldn't get enough of Max and me. We were the stars of the show, the main attraction that drew people in. Our charisma and charm were undeniable, and we knew how to work a room like no one else. But despite all the attention, I had never felt more grounded and focused. Gabrielle had given me a sense of purpose, a sense of direction that I had been lacking for so long. As the days turned into weeks, our relationships continued to flourish. Max and Marie's bond grew stronger, Lydia and I became closer friends, and Gabrielle and I became inseparable. It was a beautiful thing to see, this web of relationships that we had woven together. We were a family, a support system that lifted each other up and made each other better. And at the center of it all was Madame, the glue that held us together. She was the one who had brought us all together, who had given us a sense of purpose and belonging. We were her family, and she was ours. And as we continued to grow and evolve, we knew that our relationships would only continue to get stronger. In the end, it was all about love and support. We had found a sense of community and belonging in each other, and that was the greatest gift of all. We were no longer just individuals, we were a family. And that was the most beautiful thing of all. As we drove home together in Lydia's car, the conversation naturally turned to our respective love lives. Max and I were both excited to share our latest updates with each other, and Lydia seemed happy to listen at first. "I'm telling you, Max, I can't stop thinking about Gabrielle," I said, a goofy grin spreading across my face. "She's all I think about, all day, every day. I feel like I'm obsessed! I can't stop thinking about her smile, her laugh, her eyes...everything about her just draws me in." Max chuckled and clapped me on the back. "That's amazing, man! I'm so happy for you. You deserve it. You've been through a lot in the past, and it's great to see you finally finding someone who makes you happy." I continued to gush about Gabrielle, sharing stories about our latest dates and conversations. I told him about the way she made me laugh, the way she always knew how to make me feel better when I was down, and the way she always supported me in everything I did. Max listened intently, offering words of encouragement and support. But as I spoke, I noticed Lydia's expression growing increasingly sour. She seemed uncomfortable, fidgeting in her seat and avoiding eye contact. At first, I thought she was just tired or stressed about something else, but as the conversation went on, I realized that her discomfort was specifically related to my talk about Gabrielle. "Hey, can we change the subject?" she asked abruptly, her tone a little sharp. "I'm not really interested in hearing about Gabrielle right now." I was taken aback by her sudden discomfort. "What's wrong, Lydia? You're not happy for me?" I asked, feeling a little hurt by her reaction. Lydia sighed and shook her head. "It's not that, it's just...I don't know, you're just so obsessed with her. Can't you think about something else for once? It's like you're only thinking about her and nothing else matters." I felt a defensive pang, but Max jumped in before I could respond. "Hey, come on, Lydia, don't be like that," he said, his voice calm and soothing. "We're just happy to have found someone special. You should be happy for us! We're not hurting anyone, and we're just enjoying our time with the people we care about." Lydia shrugged, her expression unyielding. "I am happy for you, I just...never mind." The conversation continued, but the tension in the car was palpable. Lydia seemed determined to find fault in everything I said, and I found myself growing increasingly frustrated. I couldn't understand why she was being so critical and negative. Didn't she want me to be happy? As we pulled up to our normal stop at the crossroads area, we thanked Lydia for the ride and got out of the car, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "Thanks, Lydia," I said to her, Max followed me out of the car. "I don't know what's gotten into Lydia lately. She seems really upset about something." Max shrugged. "I don't know, but maybe she's just jealous. You and Gabrielle are pretty inseparable, and maybe it's making her realize what she's missing out on. Or maybe she's just stressed about something else and taking it out on you." I nodded, considering his words. Maybe Max was right. Maybe Lydia was feeling left out, and that was why she was being so critical. Or maybe she was just stressed about something else and taking it out on me. Whatever the reason, I knew that I wasn't going to let her negativity bring me down. I was happy, and I was going to enjoy my happiness, no matter what.
