CHAPTER 8: WILL YOU MARRY ME?

SABRINA’S POV
I am currently walking and looking around the mall near my place. Today is my day off, so I decided to go out rather than overthinking the rumor circulating in the office involving Aiden. For how many years of my relationship with Aiden, he never looked at someone else, especially during the time his parents insisted he meets other women. I went to a milktea shop to buy my favorite milktea because it is my comfort drink during a stressful situation like today.
“ Sabrina?”
I looked at whoever called my name. As I looked back, I saw a familiar face who is currently smiling widely at me like she confirmed that I was the one she was looking for.
“ Oh, Sheryl! It is you, long time no see,” I greeted her, smiling.
“ Yes. It had been a long time since we last met. Ahm, are you with someone?” She asked. I immediately shook my head.
“ Great. It’s catch-up time. I am just gonna order.” She happily said, put her bag in the vacant seat in front of me, and went to the counter. Sheryl was the sales lady at the boutique where I encountered the brat girl. After what happened at the boutique, we became friends.
“ So, what is the problem? You like kind of stressed earlier,” She asked and sat down.
“ Was it obvious?” I asked her back. She laughed.
“ Yes. I actually could not count those lines on your forehead earlier,” She commented, which made me sigh. Now I understand the reason why people looked at me earlier with a weird faces.
“ So, what is the problem?” She repeated her question earlier while resting her chin on her folded palm.
“ It was about my boyfriend,” I admitted, then looked at her. Her eyes were telling me to continue what I was saying.
“ I think he is cheating on me,” I continued and let out a heavy sigh.
“ How did you say so? What indications did you notice?” She asked, full of curiosity.
I started telling her my love story. I saw how she giggled during the first half of my story. But her reaction changed when I started talking about Aiden being weird these past few weeks. She simply nodded her head like she knew exactly what I was feeling.
“ Then next, last Monday while we were having coffee break with my colleagues, one of them stated that Aiden was seen last Sunday in an expensive restaurant together with a girl,” I sadly stated. I stopped talking and took a sip of milktea because my throat was dry already. I looked at her confusedly when I heard her soft laughter.
“ Maybe you are just overthinking,” She commented after laughing.
“ Why did you say so?” I asked. I wanted to know why she concluded that way after I told her everything.
“ Well, first of all, maybe your workmates simply were so curious about your boss’ mystery girlfriend that is why they put malice on everything they were seeing. Second, what if it was a business meeting? Of course, he will not only meet man on a business meeting, right?” I nodded because of her explanation. Well, those explanations make sense.
“ I do not know your boyfriend personally, but you know him. You know his tendencies. Maybe you should also consider assessing yourself because something might trigger your emotion which resulted in what are you feeling right now.” She added. Her words reminded me of what Aiden and I watched after he came back from Singapore. It was about a woman being cheated on by his boyfriend.
“ Maybe you are right,” I stated because I am still confused. I have a bad feeling about it.
“ But the best way to know the truth is to confront him,” She added, so I looked at her.
“ Anyway, I have to go now. I still need to attend on my interview on the new company I planned to work with,” She said and stood up.
“ Thank you, Sheryl!” I sincerely thanked her, stood up and hugged her tight.
“ No worries. Just do not overthink. Communication is the key.” She said and winked at me. Afterwards, she already left. I was left behind here in the milktea shop with a deep thought in my mind.
***
“ Do not leave me. Do not walk----”
I stopped singing the song I heard on the radio when my phone suddenly rang. I put down the broom I was holding and turned off the radio before I checked my phone.
Sent by Aiden: Let’s talk. Meet me in the park where we first met.
My heart beats so fast because of what I read. There was something strange about how he typed his message. I took a deep breath. Do not overthink, Sab. I decided to start preparing to go to the park where Aiden instructed. I also want to talk to him to erase all my doubts and questions.
After more than an hour, I am now here in the park. I wondered because it seemed like there is an ongoing event here even if it was already six in the evening. There is a lot of mascot and the children were happy to see them. I could not stop myself from smiling because this is the exact scene when Aiden and I first met.
I started walking to where our favorite spot. That place holds a lot of memories about my relationship with Aiden. I was shocked when a kid approached me and handed me the sunflower he was holding.
“ Oh no, I did not carry some cash,” I refused because I thought he was selling it to me.
“ I am not selling this. This flower is for you.” He politely said and handed me the sunflower.
I accepted it because it was my favorite flower, “ Huh? Who did ---”
I did not finish my question because after I accepted the flower, the kid started running away from me. I scratched the back of my head in confusion about what the kid did. But I decided to shrug off the thought and continued walking. I looked around the area because this is the only part of the park which have decorations since I could not see anything on the other side.
“ Miss, this is for you,” I looked down when I heard a kid talking.
I took the sunflower with him and like what the kid did earlier, after I accepted it, he ran away. More kids approached me and gave me sunflowers. I think I know how was the mastermind of what was happening right now.
My tears started flowing in my eyes when I saw the whole set-up of the place where Aiden and I should meet. The trees surrounding the place have Christmas lights on them. There are sunflowers’ petals on the land. However, the reason I cried so much is the poster in front of me. It has a picture of me and Aiden.
“ Will you marry me?” I read what was written on the poster. I felt like all my doubts about Aiden disappeared because of this surprise. Maybe Sheryl was right when she said I was overthinking things.
“ Sabrina…”
