CHAPTER 15: PREGNANCY

SABRINA’S POV
It has been almost two months passed when I came here to Canada. The experience is so far so good because I am enjoying my current job especially since this was the fulfilment of my dream since I was a kid. It has also been two months already since I did not have any news about Aiden. He tried calling me a few times a week after I landed here in Canada, but I did not bother to answer all those calls. But, one day he just disappeared. No calls, no text. I started accepting the fact that maybe it is the end of us, but deep inside there is still a part of me hoping that Aiden will make a huge effort so we can get back together.
“Are you okay?” Sheryl asked, which brought me back to reality. Sheryl accompanied me here in Canada, and we are now workmates.
“Of course. I am just a bit sleepy since I only had a few hours of sleep,” I replied and massaged my temple. It has been a few days since I felt headaches with unknown cause.
“What if you take a day off? You look so pale,” she suggested and approached me. Sheryl put her hand to my forehead. She might be checking if I have a fever or what.
“I am fine,” I answered and removed her hand from my forehead. Then, I stood up, “I will just pass this to Miss Shin,” I said. I started walking but immediately stopped when my surroundings started revolving.
“Are you sure that you are okay?” I heard Sheryl ask once again, so I faced her. I was about to answer her when I lost my balance.
“Sabrina!!!” That was the last thing I heard before everything went black.

“Where am I?” I asked after opening my eyes.
“We are in the hospital,” Sheryl replied and helped me to sit down on the bed. I weakly looked around the place, and she was right. We are indeed in the hospital.
“How do you feel?” Do you want me to call the doctor?” Sheryl asked questions one after the other.
I looked at her and saw how worried she was, “I am okay, Sheryl,” I assuredly told her.
“You said that earlier and looked where we are. Here in the hospital,” she angrily lectured me.
“I am sorry,” I apologized to her. We both looked at the door when it suddenly opened.
“You are finally awake, Ms. Cruz,” the doctor greeted me when she approached where I was. “How do you feel? Do you feel better now?” She asked.
“I am okay, Doc. My dizziness was gone,” I replied.
“That is good to hear, Ms. Cruz. You should listen to what your body is telling you. You should not overwork yourself…” she lectured me. “You have to take care of yourself especially there is life depending on you now.”
My eyes widened because of what she said, “W-what do you mean, Doc?” I nervously asked her, and then Sheryl held my hand.
“You are two months pregnant, Ms. Cruz,” she told me. My jaw almost dropped upon hearing the news. My tears started flowing down my cheeks. That is why Sheryl hugged me tight and let me cry a river in her arms.
“I will leave you guys alone. I will just visit my other patients and check on them,” the doctor told me. I nodded to her while crying.
“Thank you, Doc,” Sheryl sincerely thanked her. She only smiled and then left the room.
“Hush, stop crying Sab. That will not be good for your baby,” Sheryl comforted me then broke our embrace. She sat down in front of me. “Don’t worry, everything will be okay,” she encouraged me and held my hand.
I used my free hand to wipe away my tears and smile at her, “I am not worried about having him or her. I am just so happy upon hearing that. Then I became emotional,” I explained to her.
Sheryl breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing my explanation, “I thought you were regretting hearing what the doctor said,” she said.
I shook my head, “this baby gives me hope that maybe Aiden and I will be back together,” I smiled and held my belly.
“Sab, are you still hoping? It has been two months already, yet he did not bother to search for you,” Sheryl hesitantly told me.
“I know…but I want my baby to have a family. Maybe if I tell Aiden about my pregnancy and the true reason why we broke up, he might understand me… That maybe we can get back together,” I hopefully stated.
“I just don’t want you to hope because if he truly loves you, he will make an effort to see you,” Sheryl remarked.
“I am still hoping that we can get back together and finally get acceptance from his family, especially now that we will be having a baby,” I said to Sheryl while smiling widely.
Despite Sheryl’s hesitation, she smiled at me,” I am happy for you. I will be the godmother of your baby,” she happily stated which tickled my ears upon hearing that.
“We should celebrate. When we get home, we will eat every food you are craving for,” Sheryl added which made my smile even wider. I looked at my belly and carefully rubbed it. I can’t wait to finally meet you, my little hope.
***
The doctor allowed me to go home the next day. She only advised me to rest for a few days so I could gain my energy. Sheryl helped me file a sick leave in the company, so I don’t have a problem anymore. When we came home, I hurriedly went to my room to get my phone.
When I finally saw it, I opened its power. I actually turned my phone off for a few weeks because Aiden kept calling me from time to time. When it finally opened, I saw the 300+ missed calls and 100+ unread messages from Aiden. I could not help but shed tears when I read all the messages he sent me. I could truly feel how much he still loved me and how he missed me. In fact, the last message he sent me was actually yesterday.
“Sabrina, the food is ready. Let’s go downstairs,” Sheryl remarked when she entered my room. She saw me holding my cell phone.
“Did you call Aiden already?” she asked. I shook my head which made her frown, “why?”
“I am a bit nervous. I mean, how could I explain everything to him, especially since it’s been two months since the last time we talked,” I answered.
Sheryl approached me, “I am sure Aiden will understand you. So you have nothing to be afraid of,” she encouraged me.
I smiled at her and then dialled Aiden’s number. His phone kept on ringing, but he did not answer. I tried to call him again.
“Sorry! The number you have dialled is now unavailable.”
I looked at Sheryl when I already called Aiden multiple times still that is the same thing I was hearing. She smiled at me, “Maybe Aiden is just busy. You know your ex-boyfriend very well, he is a workaholic,” she comforted me.
“Maybe you are right,” I said with a sad face even if something was forming on my chest when he did not answer my call.
“Try calling him again later. For now, let’s eat,” she stated.
I only nodded in response, then we went downstairs together. She told me to sit down while she was preparing the table. Sheryl also opened the TV so we could have some sort of entertainment while eating. However, I could not focus on that since I tried calling Aiden a few times again. Still, my call hasn’t connected to Aiden’s number.
“Still nothing there?” Sheryl asked. I sadly nodded at her.
“What if you try calling his mother?” she suggested. I immediately dialled Aiden’s mother's phone number and thankfully the call was connected.
“Hello, Ma’am,” I politely greeted her.
[What do you want?]
“Ma’am I just want to talk to Aiden. Is he there?” I asked.
[He’s not here. He was so busy right now. And Sab we already talked about this, right? You are already there in Canada. Stay away from Aiden.]
“Ma’am, I just really have to talk to him. There is something I want to tell him,” I begged.
[What is it this time, Sab?]
“Ma’am I just got home from the hospital. I am pregnant and Aiden is the father. You will be a grandmother soon,” I happily announced to her. But I heard her curse on the other line.
[Please Sab, leave my son alone. It has not been long since Aiden was brought back to his senses. He moved on and I won’t allow your lies to harm him again.]
“Ma’am I am not lying. I am pregnant,” my voice raised which made Sheryl look at me with worries in her eyes.
[I don’t care if you are pregnant or not. The only grandchild I will honour is his child with Tiffany. Besides, what do you want to happen? I already gave everything you asked from me Sab, so leave my son alone.]
“But Ma’am---”
[Mommy let’s go. It’s almost time already.]
I stopped when I heard a familiar voice from her surroundings. That was the voice of Tiffany, but why did she call Aiden’s mother, mommy? I weakly sat down when I realized what could happened. I broke down when the call ended.
“What happened?” Sheryl hurriedly approached me while holding a glass of water. “Please drink this,” she said and handed me the glass.
I accepted it and immediately drank, “Thank you, Sheryl.”
“Breaking News! The most anticipated merging of Anderson Group of Company and Hudson Group of Company happened after the announcement of the engagement between Aiden Anderson at Tiffany Hudson. Let’s watch the sweetest proposal we can ever see this year in the report of Migz Buenafe.”
The glass I was holding slipped in my hands the same way my tears started flowing down my cheeks. No…why? Did Aiden forget me?
