Chapter 10 PG-NINE
************************
Thelma woke up very early and dropped Ella at her school so she could have part of the day to herself and do some job hunting. Her shift starts in the evening so she had some hours to kill.
Thelma feels she needs to do something with her time, especially during the day since the night periods are always occupied. And the great idea she came up with was to get a part-time job that pays hourly and does not compromise her present job, just some extra ways to gain some extra cash.
Thelma also believes with this other job she will be able to buy a new house and permanently settle in Florida.
After making a few stops she comes to a street that leads to an open market where many shoppers are busy buying random items for the upcoming public holiday.
Thelma thought it would be a good idea to do some shopping for the season, so she went to buy some fruits for Ella and bought some new clothes, footwear, gifts, and decorations. She also did other light shopping but not exaggerated.
However, she did not plan to go massive shopping because of the job hunting interview opportunities. Thelma took all the things she bought and walked to a grape stand shelter where she took a bit of rest from the scorching sun. Her hair was wet from sweat and she felt a bit faint.
She also bought some grapes from the owner alongside her apples and bread. Thelma took the grapes and started eating them for food and the liquid to quench her taste. After the short relaxation, she could continue job hunting around the area until her eyes found a flyer pasted on a wall. Intrigued, she approached the wall to read the description.
Vacancy!!!
Skilled pastry chef needed urgently
Job type: Full-time only
Payment: Guaranteed.
The excitement she once felt died leaving her once again disappointed. It was an ideal job, the kind she wanted but the full-time requirement was impossible because she already works as a chef in a famous hotel. She didn’t want another job that was the same as her old one. Thelma stood to think before grabbing her bags to leave the market. She called it a day and was heading in the opposite direction when a woman wearing a yellow floral jumpsuit passed through the crowd shouting.
“Come get your dream job here! Interested persons get up to sixty percent of every item sold. It’s Easter festive week, why not take it!” The woman advertising a sales job shouted through the crowd while handing flyers to people walking by, Thelma also collected one and read through it.
A talented salesperson needed.
$100 per hour and 60% Easter bonus
Easter sales are on, grab yours now!!!
Thelma felt disappointed again. The second time a great opportunity appears but turns out to be another disappointment. Though the offer seemed great and she and Ella could use some extra cash at this time of the season, but Thelma has no working experience as a salesperson, except as a chef at the Sweet Dreams Hotel. Applying for a job as a salesperson in an average public store felt strange to her when she already worked in a grand hotel, and she worries people from the hotel might recognize or report her.
Squeezing the paper and dumping it on the floor, Thelma headed to a coffee shop nearby ‘maybe a cup of hot chocolate would help relax my mind, I am so stressed out’ Thelma told herself and stepped into the shop only to frown at the crowd in front of her. There was a very long queue almost reaching the entrance ‘what a busy day’ she thought and internally groaned.
“I can’t wait for the queue. I have other plans today, please Lord what do I do?”
Thelma was so worried about her plans for the day that she didn’t see the old lady coming towards her. By mistake, the old lady tripped as she walked past Thelma and spilled coffee on Thelma. Out of reflex and experience, Thelma stepped back to avoid the stain but it was too late, the brown liquid splashed on her cream skirt making it look like some beer puke. Upset and slightly mad at everything and the fact that she is no longer able to go job hunting with a weird stain on her outfit she huffed and swore under her breath.
Because of this careless old lady, she has no choice but to go home and change, luckily a good job awaits her tomorrow.
Thelma let out a frustrated sigh, holding all the emotions and anger building inside, she turned to leave but bumped into someone behind her.
“Sorry, excuse me.” She told the stranger without looking up and made a move to leave but his tone made her stop.
“Watch it woman.” Orlando spoke, annoyance and irritation clear in his voice. Thelma paused by the door feeling a bit confused and puzzled, she could have sworn she has heard that voice before.
‘Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me again’ She assumed and looked back to find him surprisingly staring at her. Thelma quickly looked away to avoid the awkwardness and stepped out of the shop without her hot chocolate. Her steps were clumsy and ungraceful, she regretted reacting in such a way but wondered what happened seconds ago. It felt like his presence affected her in such a way she could not explain.
Orlando continued to stare at Thelma’s back even after she left the shop, he could not forget that face even if he wanted to. She was the same woman he nearly knocked down the night before. She was much more beautiful and flawless than he remembered, and her bright white blonde hair which was in a loose ponytail danced wonderfully around her shoulder as she walked.
"She walks amazingly!" He found himself saying.
Orlando analyzed his feelings and emotions, he began to wonder if this was an infatuation or a sudden weird fascination with her which was unusual for him because he never liked blonde women.
‘I’ll track her myself’ he promised himself.
“Mr bells.” A man calls for his attention in the background. Orlando snapped out of his thoughts and looked at the young man dressed in an old suit. His white buttoned-up shirt tucked inside his trouser and black bowtie crooked at one side. “Your guest is waiting.” The man reminded him.
Orlando jerked his head for him to lead the way. The man in the old suit led Orlando to a private area where his guest was waiting. After they reached the private area the man left Orlando and his guest alone.
Orlando stood behind the guest, observing his composure and features. He puts both hands inside his pocket waiting for the perfect moment to introduce himeslf and got what he asked for.
“Hello, Jack.” The man spoke in a deep voice that sounded almost distorted.
“Good to see that you are alive.”
“Is that so?”
“What else can I expect from a man like you.” Orlando moved forward and stepped in front of him.
“Secrets and scandals.” The man said and looked up at Orlando, his eyes shining with trouble, secrets, and truth.
“Why are you here? And why have you brought me here?” Orlando asked and took a sit in front of him, he intertwined his fingers and rested his head on them.
“How about we talk about old times?” The man suggested and smirked at Orlando.
“Ummm- old times? Sounds good.” Orlando rubbed his fake beard in thought.
“And exposing.” The man completed his sentence which made Orlando wonder what he was hiding. Orlando had greater experience than anyone in his time of service, extracting information from the man won’t be hard.
