Chapter 20 PG-NINETEEN
While the Chester Family prepares for the ceremony...
"Orlando darling you need to learn to smile often, we are going for an event, not a burial." Ruby encouraged her eldest son who had a gloomy look.
"This is my default face Mom."
"I don't want your default face, I need you to look handsome tonight. It's your party and I don't want you looking like a damsel on her period."
She said while styling his hair to perfection.
"Gross, Mom-" He complained.
"Then keep a smiley face and a positive attitude." She added.
"Whatever..." He mumbled under his breath.
"Did I sense an attitude in your tone?" She challenged him.
"No, ma'am-" Orlando was quick to compose his attitude.
"Better not give me an attitude. I don't care if you are an adult I will beat that attitude out of you."

Meanwhile, within the walls of the Sweet Dreams Hotel, souvenirs and refreshments were being served in the main hall in preparation for the special ceremony. Guests from all over the world and major cities in the country checked into the hotel with most of them already present in the hall and chatting with other investors. Pop music played from the array of speakers mounted above and decorative lights lit up the disco ball centered on the ceiling, it reflected beautiful colors on the stage creating a warm aura in the hall.
Thelma and Kaycee walked into the hall looking like a couple, but not the perfect couple one can imagine. She watched in awe and nervousness how the wealthy people danced gracefully on the dance floor, moving at ease with the tune. They passed a group of people talking at the bar, a few of them glanced at Thelma and secretly muttered to one another.
‘Rich people.’ Thelma rolled her eyes not caring if they saw her.
"Who are those people staring at us?" She asked Kaycee.
"They are the Eastern Shipping Union, the pride of the company."
"I think I don't want to know more about their business, they should stop staring, it's uncomfortable." She took her eyes off them
"It's because you look gorgeous. Though they will have a lot to be looking at tonight." Kaycee responded.
"What do you mean?" Thelma asked but Kaycee didn't have the time to explain, his mission was getting the Chester's their model.
Thelma stayed quiet as Kaycee led the way but she became anxious when they went out door after door before suddenly coming to a halt.
“Look Thelma… this might be a hard thing to do but I promise you will be fine.” He assured her and waited for her answer. Thelma could see the nervousness and uncertainty in his eyes which matched hers.
“Okay.” She responded.
“Thank you. There are just a few things I would advise you to do and not to do once I leave you with them."
"Wait- you're going to leave me with them?!" She exclaimed.
"Easy Thelma, it's not going to be for long. At some point they will want you alone with them, it will be suspicious if I am always there."
"That's true." Her shoulders slumped in defeat.
"Please remember everything I am about to say. Number one, avoid making any deep conversation with the families, number two, do not... I repeat do not accept any form of alcohol, if by any reason you cannot avoid it do not consume excess, and lastly try not to be uptight till the night is over.” Kaycee rushed up the instructions.
“What if they ask about my name, what do I say?” She ask.
“Tell them Ava Sambora nothing else. That is your fake identity for tonight. Also, discuss nothing about your work, family, lifestyle, or friends. Please do this to avoid complications.” Kaycee held her hand so she understood the risk they were both taking.
“I will.” She answered but then the question she always wanted to ask popped into her head like a light bulb. “Who am I escorting?”
“I don’t know for sure. Ivan Senior has two sons and one of them is who you are escorting. I hope it's the younger son and not the older son.” He mumbled and opened the last door where they met a bodyguard waiting. Thelma had to swallow her questions now that they were at their destination and hoped for the best. It will be terrible being stuck with the terrible son.
“Evening Jones.” Kaycee greeted the guard with a nod.
“Evening boss.” Jones nods back and opened the garage door for them. Thelma and Kaycee both entered the private parking lot of the hotel and noticed a blue limo parked on the east side of the lot.
“Why are we waiting?” Thelma asked Kaycee.
“Just hold on.” Kaycee replied and checked his watch as if he expected someone. Soon after a black limo arrived and the door was opened to reveal an elderly-looking man with an older woman coming out of the same limo. She was dressed elegantly like the man. They looked around for a moment before their eyes met Thelma and Kaycee.
As they came forward to meet them, the other side of the car door opened and a man emerged from it, he was younger than the rest but looked like the older man. Thelma admired his tousled shoulders and handsome face but hid the smile trying to find it way on her face.
“Good evening Mr Ivan, sorry we got delayed.” Kaycee greeted them.
“Hi Kaycee it's no problem, it's wonderful planning the ceremony, you did a great job. Who is this beautiful damsel?” Ivan Senior asked.
“This is Ava Sambora she is your son's partner, she volunteered willingly.” Kaycee introduced Thelma to them and gently pushed her to greet them but she was frozen in place.
‘Volunteered? I never volunteered for anything’ Thelma protests in her head. She knew something was off when Kaycee asked her to do this.
“That’s great to hear.” The woman spoke. “My dear meet my oldest son Orlando Ivan Chester." She gestures behind her and Thelma cringed seeing a man picking his nose.
"Oh- no, not that one, he is the one standing over there. Honey, please come here." She called him. "Sometimes he likes keeping to the shadows, he's not a fan of attention.” She said and waited for him to be closer to introduce his escort. He stepped forward from the darkness and reluctantly looked at Thelma.
His blank and detached expression made Thelma think something was wrong with the meeting. Orlando had his face emotionless but he wore sunglasses to mask the bored look in his eyes which strangely matched his outfit.
“Hello, nice to meet you.” He said but it sounded cold and bitter and he stretched out his hand to shake her. Thelma reluctantly shook his hands and felt the familiarity grow stronger. He must have sensed it too because his head was cocked to the side and his hand did not let go of hers.
‘wait a second… I remember those glasses, I remember that face… that voice... it sounds so familiar '
After some time to process what made this connection familiar her blood ran cold upon realizing it.
