56: Chapter Fifty-Six
We are now having a family dinner, together with the Zach, at a fancy restaurant and I keep glaring at Sylvester who’s sitting across me. Since mom brought out the topic about Cassandra earlier at lunch, he’s been pissing me off by pushing the idea of him dating Cassandra. I gave him death glares but he just smirked and wink like he’s teasing me. “The wedding will be in a week. It’s been postponed for so long, and finally it’s happening,” Cameron’s father said. “What difference would it bring? This ceremony is just for formality after all.” I turned to dad who didn’t even bother lifting his gaze when speaking. I wanted to say something but I just stopped and controlled myself. “I’m sure you’ll be the most gorgeous bride! I’m so excited to see you on your wedding gown, dear,” Cameron’s mom said, trying to brighten up the mood. I just smiled at her as I take a bite from my food. “Where are you two planning to go for honeymoon—” Cassandra wasn’t even done yet, but me and Cameron firmly said no. “We’re not leaving.” “It’s good thing we’re on the same page with that,” I said as I turn to Cameron. “The last time we left for a couple trip, Aviana got kidnapped. Also, Jackson is still missing. We won’t take the risk.” “Besides, we’re already pass the honeymoon phase so I don’t think it’s required for us to leave after the wedding. Even if we do leave, we’ll take Aviana with us.” “We could just leave after Aviana turns one, I think that’s the best and saftest option.” I was going to take a bite but I saw Sylvester looking and smiling at Cassandra. I kicked his leg from under the table and he immediately shout in pain. Everyone, even other people, inside the restaurant starred at him. I gave him a death glared before forcing a smile. “Sorry, I just hit my leg on the table,” he apologizes as he looks around to everyone inside the restaurant. “Anyway, Stephen, are you going to walk Savannah down the aisle?” I felt like I could go deaf in the silence I heard after Cameron’s dad asking that to my father. I looked down and could feel gazes. Cameron held my hand, reason for me to lift my head and smile at him. “Even if he doesn’t, Savannah still has three other men who could walk her down,” I, and the rest, turned to Stefano. “Considering the relationship of the bride and her dad, if it would be uncomfortable for her on her special day, I guess it’s best not to follow tradition.” “Right, he might end up ruining it,” Sylvester added. He sips his wine and winked at me. “Savannah.” I turned to Cameron’s dad. “What do you think? Your wedding, your call.” “I...” I gazed at dad who doesn’t even bother looking at me. “I want him to walk me down the aisle.” He lifted his head in surprise. “It’s his last responsibility as a father, to walk his daughter down the aisle. I’ll give it to him as his last chance to be a father. Also, people of Casterdale will be watching. Won’t it be weird if they don’t see dad walking down his only daughter at the aisle?” “Then, if that’s what the bride wants, that should happen. Right, Stephen?” “What other choice do I have?” He wiped his mouth and stood up. “I have to excuse myself. I have to go back home and check on my father.” He walked away and left. Honestly, I sort off pity dad. I know he’s carrying a lot right now because of grandpa’s condition, but he would never say it to us. He wouldn’t ask for our help even if it gets tougher. “By the way, who’s the best man?” Sylvester asked. Right, I actually don’t know any friends of Cameron. I turned to Cameron and he smiled as he looks at Stefano. “Oh, my gosh!” I exclaimed. “Stefano?! For real?! Why?! How?!” “I really don’t have close friends. Also, Stefano and I became close after plotting a lot of stuffs behind your back.” “But why my brother?!” “Why not? What’s wrong with me?” I faced Stefano and glared at him. “Answering that question is tiring. Wow, you better behave.” “Do I look like someone who misbehaves? Seriously?” “I have an announcement!” Cassandra said which stole our attention. “I arranged a bridal shower for my dear sister-in-law, and I already talked with Stefano few days ago for the bachelors party.” “You talked with Cassandra already?!” Sylvester amusingly asked which made me chuckle. “Why? We talked about business and the bachelors—” “I’m done. I’m out.” “You were never qualified, Sylvester,” I jokingly said. “Why? What’s happening?” Cameron asked. “Oh! My brother here wanted to da—” Vester hurriedly covered Skyler’s mouth to stop him from talking. He shoves a whole piece of bread to his mouth. “Vester! Watch your manners!” Mom said and apologized to my in-laws. “It’s okay, don’t worry. It’s actually fun to see them like this. They are still young and should enjoy their youths but they got involved to the business world to early,” Cameron’s dad said. “What was Skyler saying?” Cameron whispered to me. “Sylvester wants to date Cassandra.” I think I said that too loud, because they are now looking at me. Sylvester is giving me death glares. “But don’t worry! I won’t let that happen! I’ll be the first one to smack his head if he gets close to Cass. I know my brother the most, and Cass doesn’t deserve him at all.” “You’re really going to expose me just like that? Am I not your brother, like seriously? Nobody will at least protect me?” “You’re handsome and fine young man, but I won’t allow it. I don’t allow Cassandra to enter a relationship yet,” Cameron’s father said. “Don’t worry sir, I’ll wait.” “WHAT DO YOU MEAN WAIT?! You’re waiting for no one!” I shouted as I throw a table napkin at him. I turned to Cameron’s parents. “I apologize for my brother’s craziness and nonsense talking. Don’t worry, I won’t even let them approach Cassandra aside from business matters. I’m really sorry, I should have done better as the older sister in disciplining them.” I smiled and then turned to Sylvester and glared at him. The evening continued and we just continued to talk and laugh comfortably. The Zach’s are really nice, modest and simple. Given that they are the richest family in Casterdale, I feel like we’re much more complicated than them. I wish this kind of moments continue.
