Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Nerd and The Famous

Michaela carefully checks the contents inside her bag. She's making sure that she didn't forget all the important things that she needs to bring to school. This is a big day for her because this is the day that she has been waiting for.
She was chosen by their Professor and her classmates to be the representative of their class for the History Quiz Olympiad where she will compete against other students from different sections.
She studied like crazy for a month, and she tried her best not to give in to any distractions. She's aiming for a victory, as she wants all of her teachers and classmates to be proud of her.
And she also want to show all the girl bullies in her school that being smart is more important than having a physical beauty.
She used to think that bullying and harassment only happens in the movies, but unfortunately, it also happens in real life. She's been a victim of verbal bullying since her freshman year in College, and she is being bullied by the popular clique at their school...
She's been called many names such as "Plain Jane Nerd," "Four Eyes" and the "Miss Metal Braces."
It didn't hurt at first, but the bullying continued on.  But she no longer pay attention to her bullies. She just keeps on telling herself that she will have the last laugh, and she promised to herself that she will become the most successful person in her batch...
Once Michaela made sure that all of her things are inside her bag, she gave herself one last look at the mirror. She smiled, while looking satisfied at her appearance.
Afterwards, she quickly left her room and went downstairs. She immediately headed to the dining room where her parents are waiting for her, so that they can have breakfast together.
And just like what she always does before leaving for school, she said goodbye kiss and hug to her father and mother.
Both of them smiled at her, while cheering on her. Her Dad and her mother has always been her energetic and supportive cheerers.
"Dad,Mom... I'm leaving... And wish me goodluck!" Michaela smilingly smiled at them.
Her mother immediately approached her and gave her something...
"Here, wear this for extra good luck!" her Mom told her.
Michaela smiled when she saw the gold necklace with a butterfly pendant on her hand. Her mother couldn’t explain why, but she said that this butterfly pendant necklace always gives her good luck.
Her mother always lends it to her whenever she has to join a competition, or whenever she has to take an important exam.
It was her mother's good luck charm, and she plans to give it to her when the perfect time comes.
Her mother told her that it's like a family heirloom.
"Aww, thank you so much, Mommy! And as always, I will take good care of this." Michaela promised her sister.
"There's no doubt in my heart that you'll win today, sweetheart. You're smart just like your mother." their father joined in.
"Thank you so much for your support, Dad. It really means a lot to me." Michaela smilingly said in return.
"Wait, aren't you going to be late?" her mother suddenly asked, while pointing at the wall clock.
Michaela gasped in return once she checked the time.
"Oh no! I'm going to be late if I don't hurry! I've got to go, Dad and Mom! I'll see you later." she hurriedly said goodbye.
After saying goodbye, she quickly ran towards their garage and immediately rides on their car...
While she's on her way to school, she feels confident about the Quiz Bee, and she will do everything to win the competition...
==================================
At the University Campus...
Michaela forced herself to smile at the camera, eventhough she's feeling disappointed and irritated.
She should be in the clouds, while feeling happy because she won the History Olympiad Quiz Bee, but only five people from her class attended the program, much to her annoyance.
She is utterly frustrated because only five people from her class supported and cheered for her!
Michaela already has an idea on where her classmates are. Today is the the Inter High Basketball Finals, and she's betting on her money that all of the female population in their school are watching the basketball game.
She can imagine that all of the seats inside their school gymnasium are all occupied.
Once their program officially ended, Michaela immediately walks away while carrying her trophy, and she's wearing a gold medal on her neck.
She grimly marches towards the gymnasium to check all the students there...
"Why did the basketball match and the Quiz Bee has to happen at the same time? And what the heck is so special with this basketball game that everyone's going crazy about it?!" she whispered to herself, while looking and feeling irritated.
She quickly enters the school gymnasium, and she was suddenly startled by the loud screams coming from the students, especially girls.
Michaela was able to find a seat and she decided to watch the basketball game. She doesn't have any idea about this sport, but based on the scoreboard, their school is way ahead compared to their competitor. Her school is at 85, while St. Matthew's School is at 70.
Her eyes followed Kent Cervantes' every move. He is the Star Player of the basketball team...
She held her breath in suspense when Kent did a little jump, as he tries to shoot the ball unto the ring.
And just like magic, it went perfectly inside the basket!
And because of Kent's three-pointer shot, everyone went crazy again. The girls were screaming at the top of their lungs as if there's no tomorrow...
Every audience are looking so excited because of what Kent did. She can hear the girls chanting Kent's name, and the audience roared with so much excitement. Everyone is on high spirits.
Michaela is getting excited as well, but she's trying her best to hide it.
