Forty-Two: Backtracking

The Waldorf High Reunion party is finally over. Daniel and Michaela are currently at a 24-hour coffee shop. It's a good thing that there's still a coffee shop opened even at wee hours of the morning. Daniel and Michaela are enjoying their own cups of coffee, as they go down the memory lane. They talked about some bad things and good things that happened to tnem, and they can't help but to feel nostalgic all over again.
Daniel asked her if he can talk to her privately after the party. Michaela said yes, as she wanted to catch up more with him. Sally fully understands the situation, so she decided to hitch a ride to one of their former classmate who can drive her home...
"Do you still remember the Inter High Basketball Championships?" Daniel suddenly asks her.
Michaela took a sip of her coffee first before she spoke. She can still clearly remember everything that happened that day, because she was able to experience her very first heartbreak.
"Yes, I confessed to you on that day. But you rejected it. Don't worry, we're all good now. It was just part of being in highschool, I guess..." she said, while casually shrugging her shoulders.
"Do you want to know the reason why I rejected your love confession?" Daniel asked again while staring at Michaela's eyes without blinking.
Michaela nodded once again as an answer.
"Well, pretty much. You said awhile ago that you went to the seminary because you wanted to become a priest, right?" Michaela enunciated.
"Yes, that's it. And I also told you that I now realized that dream isn't for me, so that's why I've decided to go back to Walnut Creek and restart my life again." pronounced Daniel.
"I hope you don't mind me asking, but what's your plan now that you're out from the seminary?" Michaela curiously asks him.
"Hmm. First, I would like to enroll at Waldorf University and take up an Education course. I have this passion to teach other children, so I could start from there. And secondly, I'm planning to be friends with you again, and I want to romantically pursue you, if you'll give me a chance..." Daniel suddenly stated.
Michaela almost choked on her coffee after she heard everything from Daniel. She's caught by surprise because of his straightforwardness, but somehow, she's quite impressed by it.
She snaps out from her reverie when she heard Daniel's voice again.
"So, what do you think, Michaela? Do I have a chance with you?" Daniel asks her again.
Michaela cleared her throat, then afterwards, she decided to tell him her answer.
"Can you give me more time to think about it?"
Daniel lets out a smile, while nodding in return.
"Of course! You can have all the time that you need. I'm willing to wait until you're ready." he reassures her.
"Thank you, Daniel. But, we will be friends, just like before." Michaela smilingly informs him.
"Well, that's fair enough. A toast for our friendship!" Daniel announces, as he raised his coffee mug in the air for a toast.
Michaela's smile grew wider. She raised her coffee mug as well and clinked it towards Daniel's coffee mug.
"Cheers!"
Afterwards, they've spent more time going down the memory lane and catching up with each other.
=============================
Few days have passed.
Kent smilingly looks at the box of chocolates he's holding while he's waiting at the Montserrat family's living room. He decided to visit Michaela just to hang out with her, and at the same time return the favor to her because she gave him the most delicious chocolate mint cookies he has ever tasted.
He also got to meet Michaela's parents, Mr. Michele Montserrat and Mrs. Clarissa Montserrat. They are both very cordial and cool, as they chatted for a bit. It's too bad that they had to go after a few minutes because they have a very important appointment to attend to.
But Mr. and Mrs. Montserrat kindly told him that Michaela is currently out with her friends back in highschool, and he's very welcome wait for their daughter...
Kent is really excited to talk again to Michaela. Most of the students at Waldorf University told him that Michaela Montserrat is the most boring person on earth, not to mention she's a plain geek and she just wants to study all the time.
But he's thinking the total opposite. He thinks that Michaela is very easy to talk to, no complications and no dramas unlike the popular girls at their school.
He actually likes Michaela's simplicity, and she's very frank in a good way...
"Kent? What are you doing here?"
Kent's train of thoughts stops in a halt when he suddenly heard Michaela's voice.
He was taken by surprise when he saw her walking towards him, and she is with somebody. She is with another guy, who's also looking at him with a small frown on his face.
"Oh, I just dropped by to give you this, to return the favor." Kent smilingly announces, while giving Michaela a box full of chocolates.
"What favor?" Michaela asks again, while looking a bit confused.
"You gave me a box of chocolate mint cookies, right? You said you even baked them yourself..." Kent reminded Michaela.
"Oh, yes! I remember now. I'm sorry about that... By the way, did you like it?" Michaela finally remembers everything.
"It was absolutely divine. I hope I'll have a chance to eat them again." said Kent.
Michaela was about to say something but she wasn't able to do so when Daniel suddenly joins in their conversation.
"Michaela, aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?" Daniel suddenly asks her.
"Ah, yes! I'm sorry for my manners. Anyway, introductions are in order. Daniel, I want you to meet Nathaniel, a good friend and a school mate at Waldorf University. And Nathaniel, I want you to meet Daniel, he's also a good friend and my batch mate at Waldorf High." Michaela smilingly introduces them to each other.
