"KUYA OPPA, you can't just accept them here. I can't be with that Shin Gun and his friends on one roof for three days. They are only gonna bring us a lot of trouble. They are good for nothing!” Eun Young said angrily and stomped her feet on the floor as she watched their new guests arrange the room where they would stay for three days. “And even if you teach them for a year, they will learn nothing. They are trash. It would be a wasted effort.”
The girl has no intention of helping them with the preparations. Eun Young hated the idea of having the five kids of the gangsters with Park Gung’s son Shin Gun staying at their house while they review for their studies under the guidance of Carter. The College Scholastic Ability Test Simulation, which serves as an entrance exam for students to qualify to enter universities, was nearing. And South Korea was recognized for the ability of the students because of this exam. So the pressure on the students was high because of the difficulty of the exam. And it seemed like Park Gung's group was desperate to make their son pass the exam. It was going to be a big shame on them if their child fails.
So Park Gung and his men left their children in the care of Carter so they could focus on the review. Selina was left to take care of their food and Cheska and Carter both helped in arranging their rooms that would serve as their study rooms. The house now looked like a review center.
"Eun Young, they might hear you," Cheska sushed the teenager.
"That's why I don't speak Korean, unnie," she said. “They won’t understand anything. They did nothing but harass and make trouble to the people around them. They’re no different from their fathers. Good-for-nothings.”
“Park Gung gave us a good opportunity. With us helping their kids review for the exam for three days, they took off three months of our debts. Just think, we won’t have to worry about anything for three months. And if their children pass the college entrance exam, they will reduce our debts by half. Aren't you happy about it? We only need to adjust and sacrifice a little.”
“What if they make a mess around here? What if they hurt us?” Eun Young asked. “You don't know their personalities. They even bully teachers. Why do you think they were dropped here with us? Nobody wants to teach them anymore. Besides the fact that their brains were cannot absorb what they’re studying, they are bullies as well.”
“Park Gung and I have an agreement. If they cause trouble or hurt anyone, the tutoring is automatically canceled but the payment will still be reduced. They will also pay for the damages. I know you have apprehensions. But I am still a teacher. I still have a responsibility to those kids.”
"They are not your students, Oppa."
"They are. Since the moment I agreed with Park Gung’s offer. And as a teacher, I believe all students have an opportunity to learn so they can change their lives for the better. Education is the key to change. They are my responsibilities, and so are you and umma. Park Gung gave us a great opportunity.”
Eun Young had no choice but to agree because Carter already made up his mind. He was deadset on giving Shin Gun and his group a chance to change no matter how bad their or their parents’ reputation was.
“I don’t want that Shin Gun fool around here. He’s in my territory,” Eun Young threatened.
“Why don’t you attend your class? You still have time,” Carter said. “Let us handle the problem here on our own. You have to focus on your review. You want to go to Seoul University, don't you?”
"I'm not attending class today," she said firmly and took off her uniform coat. “I want to help around here today. I will assist with the review. I will be like I’m reviewing as well.”
"Is that okay with you?" Cheska asked. She knew this was going to be a bit difficult for the young girl because she had been self-studying for the exam since last year. That’s how dedicated Eun Young was to her studies.
"Nee," she replied positively. “I know those guys a lot. And I’ll know if they make any trouble. I can stop them. I will clean the study room. They must pass that exam even if I have to strangle them. Goodbye, half of our debt!”
"Is she really okay?" Cheska asked and watched Eun Young walk out of the room.
“I hope so. Eun Young is smart enough. Now that she calmed down a bit, she probably finally realized the opportunity that I’ve seen with this setup. I just hope it will work,” Carter said. But there were still uncertainties in his eyes.
