And now she’s shopping because she wanted Carter to notice her. She suddenly remembered Mikha's warning to her that Carter was not Doc Darryl. So what if they’re not the same person? Can't I be beautiful and happy for Carter to like me? This was the only time she felt like this again. As if everything she does has a purpose and she was happy about it. Unlike before that she just moved because it was what was expected of her. “Non pigonhae! I’m tired!” Eun Young said and put down their purchases. They just walked into a restaurant. They weren’t able to go to her friend’s brother’s restaurant because it was far and they were exhausted. She could not keep up with the teenager’s energy. She felt so old when she was just only twenty-five. Seven years ago she was just the same age as Eun Young. Did she really age that fast? What happened to her during the past years? She felt like she just lived again today. And I must keep up. I want this feeling that I am living again. “Can you order for me? You can have whatever you like. Don’t worry about the budget,” she told the girl. Eun Yong was a great shopping companion. It was just right to give her a reward. “I like that. If I were with Oppa Kuya, he will just order the cheapest food. He is very stingy with me,” the girl complained, pouting her lips. “Then he would say that we’ll just eat whatever we want at home, with mom and his cooking. Killjoy!” “He is just practical. It's too expensive to live here, of course you needed to budget everything right.” If it was just her, she would be happy staying at home and staring at Carter all day. She had been doing the same thing anyway, staring at Doc Darryl’s picture all day. The only difference was she could see the living and breathing version of him. "Once you have a job, then you can buy everything you want." Eun Young sighed. “You’re saying the same things as Kuya Oppa’s. But I won’t be able to get work for a long time because he still wants me to go to the university.” “I used to be like that. So lazy to study. But I have a dream for myself and my family. I didn't stop until I became a CPA and got a job. That is the reality of life. You have to study and work hard on your dreams. What do you want in life? ” "I wish I was born rich?" "Not all of us are like that but you can work hard to get what you want." She tilted her head. "It's good that you know Tagalog." “Umma wants me to get used to it. Kuya Oppa doesn't speak Korean or English to us when we chat with him. As if he hates Korea. You see, umma and his father separated when he was ten years old. The umma wanted to work here. She said Kuya Oppa's father didn't seem to have any dreams. Umma met Abba. They fell in love. That’s why I feel like Kuya Oppa was blaming me because his family was ruined and I was the result of that.” "That wasn’t your fault, Eun Young." But parents’ separation really has a big impact on the children, especially when either parent has a new family. “But he is here now. He’s with your mother.” “He is my English tutor. And he said he wouldn't teach me English if I couldn't translate it into Filipino anyway. He is cruel.” Cheska’s smile faltered. “He really wants you to learn the language. For an English teacher, he is nationalistic.” The girl put a beef strip on the grill. She was serving her. "He doesn't like Koreanovelas if it's not dubbed in Tagalog." Cheska laughed. "We're the same." Eun Young wrapped the roast beef in the cabbage. “And he likes Pinoy telenovelas. I also watch it with him. That was my way of understanding him a little bit. Some of the tradition and culture is different in the Philippines.” "He’s watching a Pinoy telenovela?" “Yes. He said it was the only thing that gets rid of his homesickness.” "He really likes the Philippines." “And he really wanted to be there. He didn’t like it here. When he graduated and his company sent him to Seoul, that’s the only time we saw him. He takes a vacation here twice a year. He keeps on going back to the Philippines. Until he was forced to stay here when Appa left me and umma for another woman. Kuya Oppa left his job in the Philippines as well as his father. He took a teaching job here and was the one who suggested to umma to turn our house into a homestay. He has become my appa.” The siblings were even closer to each other than she expected. Doc Darryl was an only child. His parents died before he even graduated in Medicine. Other than being an orphan, Doc Darryl’s life was a happy one. Perfect. Almost perfect. "So, he is your hero?" "Nee," Eun Yong replied, nodding. “And tormentor. He’s annoying and will tease you to no end. So you better just get used to it." Cheska cleared her throat. "The woman he’s courting…was she really beautiful?"
