LIS: 20

The woman has thick makeup but she still has that gentle look. Every angle of her small face was perfect. She also has a nice body shape. She was wearing a cream lacy blouse, black shorts, and red gladiator sandals. She had the same pink fur coat that was just placed over her shoulder. “Jjankamanaeong. Same coat?” the woman asked, pointing at Cheska’s coat.
"I choose it for her, Min Ji," said Eun Young. “Kuya Oppa said it looks good on her. This is Cheska, my new unnie.”
“Hi! Anneong hasaeyo,” Cheska greeted her and held out her hand to the woman. She must admit she envied the Korean woman’s beauty, but she can still be civil to her.
The woman looked at her from head to toe with a grin. “Geuko teunahan tedojo eungotgattta. Geugo seun ssandang sinege jaloulrimnida.”
"What did she say?" Cheska asked Eun Young.
“She said the coat looks better on her and it looked cheap on you.”
“I’m sorry. She is just joking,” Carter said. But Cheska couldn’t see a hint of remorse on Min Ji’s face. Carter was just making an excuse for Min Ji.
Min Ji clung onto Carter's arm. “Oppa, uriga honja yaegi halssuis seulkka? Igoseun jungyo hada.”
Carter turned to Eun Young. “Take Cheska home first. She must be tired from shopping. Min Ji and I just have something important to discuss.”
Cheska couldn't even look back at Carter and Min Ji. They looked good together. They look like main stars in a Korean drama. While she felt like a pretender, she auditioned for the main role but didn’t pass.
“Please excuse my Kuya Oppa. Hes’ really that stupid when it comes to Min Ji. Also, don't believe that what you are wearing doesn't suit you. You are beautiful, unnie.” Eun Young was obviously trying to encourage Cheska. “Just ignore Min Ji. She is nothing.”
Cheska forced a smile. "I'm fine. I was not affected by what she said. ”
“Right. She is not important.”
When they got home there were two women and two men in the living room and watching TV. They turned out to be the new guests. Her jaw got tired of smiling until she excused herself because she wanted to sleep already.
Cheska's fake smile disappeared when she was alone in her room. She doesn't really care about Min Ji’s insults. Those weren’t new to her. What was hurting her was Carter didn’t even take her side. Didn’t even defend her. Inner beauty was really not a thing in this country. Just the outward appearance was enough. And it made her feel worthless.
She laid down on the futon bed and buried her face in the pillow. “If Doc Darryl was here, he wouldn't treat me like this. He will choose me and not Min Ji.”
But Doc Darryl was gone. Only Carter was there and he didn’t like her. He would leave her and choose the woman who’s sexier and more beautiful than her. Cheska felt like there was a burning fire in her heart. She was jealous even if she didn’t have any rights to. But she couldn’t help. She felt like she was choking and that she wanted to choke someone else as well.
When Doc Darryl died, she felt utter sadness and pain. But he feels more strongly now for Carter. Like he just disappeared right in front of her. She felt like she lost a war even before she could even fight.
I can’t compete with someone like Min Ji. I’m not as beautiful as that Kpop-wannabe that he likes. He will leave everything for Min Ji. Even if that woman’s a witch in disguise, I still have nothing against her.
She thought of asking her friend Mikha for advice. This emotion is new to her. She didn’t know jealousy can make you lose your mind. Intense jealousy. But what if she didn’t like her friend’s advice? Couldn’t she just decide for herself?
My feelings for Carter need to stop. He's not Doc Darryl. They just look alike but they’re two different persons. Micah is right. What I’m doing was just madness. And if I stay here any longer, I will only make myself more miserable. Doc Darryl will not be happy seeing me make a fool of myself over someone just because he looks like him.
Cheska made a decision. She would check out tomorrow. If she wanted to keep her sanity, she had to avoid Carter. It’s not right to bring back Doc Darryl in someone else.
She opened her laptop and searched for places where she could stay in Seoul. Carter’s family wouldn’t mind if she stayed at another guesthouse, right? She was grateful for their hospitality in taking her in but one night was probably enough for her. And Carter would probably be even happier if he was no longer her tour guide. It was obvious enough on his face earlier that he was not happy with her. He was just being forced to be with her, and he prefers to be with Min Ji.
She wanted to cry while looking for a guesthouse to move into. A part of her felt like she was having a hard time leaving the homestay. She felt like something was squeezing her heart when she thought that she would never see Carter again. And all the guesthouses and hotels she looked up on the internet always have a bad review, so she didn’t continue her booking.
