Rue suddenly realized what she just said. She's right, for so many years that they've been together, they used to know Demitri as the serious and aloof person. Sometimes he's showing his other sides, but for once in a blue moon.
But she thinks that maybe he just doesn’t want her to know their secret. She just shrugged her shoulder. She doesn't want her to suspect anything while hoping that she will just ignore it.
"It's good news, right? I mean, he's slowly changing." Rue tried to reason out, not minding her suspicious stare.
'Maybe it doesn't really bother her at all?' But it's still bothering her, she's thinking that maybe her brother changed because he's been like that for the past years.
Or her best friend changed, because as far as she could remember, the two of them don't get along well.
She took a heavy sigh. "Not just slowly changing, but he definitely changed." Danna said as she puts her elbow above the table then puts her chin on her palm.
"Come on, it's not a bad thing." Rue just said, not wanting to talk about it anymore. She has no choice but to keep the promise that she has done.
Danna once again fell into her thought. Her mind is still stuck between her assumptions about the of them.
Rue noticed that she's still bothered. "You said you're going to show something?" She asked, trying to change the topic.
Danna suddenly looks at her then suddenly remembered something. "Oh. After I witnessed what happen earlier, I just thought of finding you." She shrugged her shoulder.
Rue slowly nodded her head and thought that her best friend must be just worried about her, since she knew her very well. While she felt guilty at the same time because she's hiding something from her.
And there's a silence for a moment.
"So, what's your plan?" Danna suddenly asked.
Rue crossed her arms over her chest. "I'll try to stop it." Rue said, back again to her usual serious face.
"Actually, I have something to tell you..." Danna opened up with a little a hesitation on her voice.
Rue stared at her, waiting for her next word. The seriousness on her eyes didn't change while looking at her.
"Remember my sister got married against her will, right?" Danna starts, her gaze fixed on her.
Her sister got married into a royal blood, it is to cover up what she had done. No one knows that it's just an arranged marriage except them, both families and the leader of the clan.
But Rue as the daughter of the leader, and she's close to their family, she also knows about it.
"Yeah." She said with a small nod with a confusion on her eyes, clueless about her sudden bring up about her sister.
"And she also did the same thing that you've done." Danna added, trying to give an idea to her when she noticed her confused expression.
Then Rue immediately realized what she's trying to say.
"You're saying, I also got into an engagement as the consequence of running away?" She interpreted her words.
Danna nodded. "That's right." She said with a smile.
"Yeah, I already consider that thought." She simply said.
"But do you have an idea what happened to her while she's in the mortal world?" Danna asked with low voice and leaning forward to her.
Rue's forehead suddenly furrowed. "What's the story of it?" She just knows the story, but she has no idea about the side story of it.
Danna looks around before speaking. "My sister almost had a mortal mate." Danna said, almost whispering.
Rue didn't say a word for a while. She was too shocked with her sudden revelation. While Danna is already expecting her reaction.
"And what happened?" She asked when she recovered from astonishment.
Danna stares at her for a second. "He died." Danna said in a low tone of voice.
Rue's lips twitch, she didn't expect such tragedy that's same as her. She's now curious what really happened to her sister while she's in the world of mortal.
Danna took a heavy sigh. "That's all I know, they covered up her disappearance, then she got married when she returned home." She explained with a soft and low voice.
With her vague statement, Rue's curiosity about the mortal's death became intense. She's also wondering what's her father announced when she's gone.
And even she's eager to know about the story behind his death, she knows that she can't get answers from her.
"What did my father say when I'm gone?" She asked instead, wanting to know what her father said to them while she's away.
"Oh, he also covered it all. Since it will cause a bad reputation." Danna replied ironically.
"He tells you that went to your mother's family because you missed her." Danna added while slowly shaking her head.
Rue clinched her fist. She can't believe how her father said that and after all that he did.
According to the Mortem History book of ancestors that she read, her mother is the daughter of the previous leader of their clan and got married into her father who became the next ruler. Then her father got married after she died, and her family choose to separate and live far away from them. And she didn't meet or seen their silhouette.
Danna noticed her sudden silence. "It doesn't matter anymore. The important thing is, you're already here." She smiled as she gave her a soothing word, trying to comfort her.
She also knows about it, even only few people knew the story behind the marriage of Rue's mother and father. And it turns out that it's an old way of punishing the higher ranks by getting into arranged marriage and to cover it up.
"I'm not expecting him to say that, especially that he knows what happened to them." Rue said as she took a heavy sigh.
"Yeah. How can they be this cruel." Danna just replied and twitched her lips.
Speaking of cruelty, Rue suddenly remembers her sister's almost mate. The curiosity in her heart arises again, there's a burning desire on her heart to know what happened to them and what's behind the tragedy of their fate.
