"Is this a mortal world?" Demitri asked gravely and astonishment can be detected in his voice.
Rue gazes at him. "Probably that Xenos is thinking this is the best place to hide." Rue simply replied.
His lips partially open but he couldn't utter a word and chooses not to speak,
"I'm sure he has not gone far yet. Let's keep moving." She announced when he didn't respond. But he didn't even flinch in his spot.
"What's wrong?" She asked with a creased eyebrow. He still didn't say a word and annoyance can be seen in his eyes. Her eyebrows furrowed even more. It took her a few seconds to realized something.
"Oh. Right-" she paused as her head slightly lifted up in amusement "It's your first time." She remarks with a teasing smile. His stares sharpened as he walks pass her. She even heard him cursed.
Rue shook her head repeatedly. She immediately follows him with big steps since he has a long leg to easily make a distance between them.
"Just act normal. Try your best not to get their attention." She whispered when she went beside him. He just keeps on walking and didn't say a word. And she couldn't synchronize with him since he's walking fast purposely. They started looking around, trying to look for any signs of him.
As they walk along the street, every person is looking at them as they pass by. Some of them are also whispering, commenting on how strange they are and some of them are adoring them. Especially the man in front of her, but it seems like he couldn't care less. It seems that he's too engrossed on the finding what they're looking for. They're still wearing their clothes from the dinner, a vintage dress and tuxedo.
While Rue is looking around, a familiar building caught her attention. And when she focused her eyes into it, it's the bar that she always hangs out with Althea. She then looks around and to realized that the street is truly familiar since she's been here before for so many times.
"Excuse me miss." Someone interrupted her thoughts. She stopped on walking and forced to see a guy wearing clothes for partying. As she judged by his messed-up appearance and smell of alcohol, he must be from the bar.
"What can I help you?" She asked trying not to sound irritated. She hates being interrupted even in her thoughts.
The man shyly scratched the back of his head. Rue feels annoyed even more as he's taking so long and wasting her time.
"I'm afraid that she won't be able to help." Demitri suddenly interfered. "Since we have an errand to run." He speaks in a gruff voice as if he's giving a warning while he's at his usual serious face. She didn't notice that he also stopped from walking.
The man seemed disappointed at what he heard. As he also assumed that the man is guarding her. At first, he didn't mind his glares while hoping that the lady is not taken so he shoots his shot.
"Okay. I'm sorry man." The guy apologized as he raised his hands in the air then smiled at her before he walks away.
"What the hell?" Rue's eyebrows furrowed with the stranger's action as her lips hanged open in disbelief. When she looks at Demitri, he just gives him a dangerous look then resumed on walking. She started walking with a heavy footstep while following him.
"Can't you walk slowly? My legs are not long as yours." She protested as she looks around, trying to find the man that they're searching. But to think that she doesn't even know his face and only Demitri can recognize him, she took a heavy sigh. And he just ignored her.
But as she walks while her eyes on the ground, she noticed that his footsteps become slower as she could see his foot nearby. When she looked up in front, she met his rigid back. Rue pursed her lips to prevent on smiling.
"Try not to get attention huh." She heard him mumbled in a low voice. And he must be referring to the guy who talked to her earlier. Rue pretended not to heard it, she knew that couldn't argue about it.
"Do you see any signs of him?" She asked with an enthusiastic tone of voice, trying to distract his thoughts.
"There's so many people, I couldn't see his silhouette." Demitri simply replied. And she as expected, they might have a hard time on finding him with this kind of place.
Rue crossed her arms over her chest. "This place is really crowded since a famous bar is just near here." She agreed.
"Famous bar?" Demitri asked while still walking and looking around from time to time.
"It's a spacious and luxurious bar. And I'm telling you, it's so noisy with a strong smell of alcohol-" She couldn't finish her words as she almost bump into his back. He suddenly stopped from walking.
He turned around to look at her. "How did you know?" He asked with a serious face. She rolled her eyes, since he just interrupted her from talking.
"Obviously, we've been there before." She replied ironically.
His eyebrows creased. "And you didn't tell me that you know this place?" His voice is firm with emphasis in every words.
"You didn't ask." Rue uttered with a calm expression, not minding his glaring eyes.
She saw his shoulder harshly move up and down as his finger landed in between of his eyebrows and massaged it. It seems like he's trying his best to hold his tempered.
"And I don't even know what does he looks like." She contradicted. But deep down, she's somehow admitting to herself that it may be her fault that she didn't tell him what she knows but they also couldn't do anything to about it. But Demitri's eyes looking directly at her eyes, makes her feel guilty.
She couldn't withstand his quiet emotional blackmail. "Okay. I'm sorry." She acknowledged at the end. But Demitri didn't say anything and just stared at her with the same look.
"What are you doing?" She whimpered when he abruptly seized her arms, but he's holding it carefully. And he continued to remain silent to her. As she looks ahead, she noticed that he's dragging her towards the alley from which they originally entered.
