Chapter 10 Constance

I heard disturbing voices from outside, screams, and terrible phrases that come out from a human's heart. They are poisonous, it can kill.
"What is that noise?" I groaned as I changed my position from laying down, I opened my eyes and I could sense its heaviness. What time is it? Why am I hearing noises from outside of my window?
When I got up, I made time to neared at the window and behold the crowd as they continued to argue and throw hurtful words. As usual, it often happens and as time goes by, I always look at it as a normal thing to witness. What do I even expect? Our land is corrupted.
"What are you doing?! You almost killed her!" said the woman with a basket of grapes on her grip. From what I am seeing, they are quarreling.
"Must I apologize for what I did? I saw them with my husband, naked and enjoying one another's pleasure! Do I seem to be a joke to you?" said the woman which appears to be familiar to me, perhaps she is one of the palace's servants?
"Enough of this, Dalia! Go home and never come back!"
"You are tolerating such behavior from your sister, do not think of stopping me from killing her!"
I pity them for having such a hardened heart, they do not know anything such as pure joy.
I glance at the wall's clock and it is already six in the evening. I bet Father must have been at home by now. I hastened my way off the bed and I began to traipse my feet toward the doorway.
Before I could hold the knob, I heard a conversation from outside. "What do you mean by that, Sage?" It is the voice of my father. My feet strode even closer to their direction and I carefully had my way to eavesdrop on their discussion.
"I heard them talking about escaping," Sage replied and I gulped. What are they talking about? Is she trying to tell my father about what Timothy and I talked over earlier?
"You must have been mistaken," my father responded and I heard his footsteps coming toward my room. I stepped back and walked ahead to my bed and sat on the mattress, pretending I did not hear anything from their conversation.
"Terra?" My father called out and I simply glanced at him. "Are you doing alright here?" he asked.
I simply nodded at him, he must be concerned about my well-being since I went out of our home earlier. "Are you done with your work, Father? I have heard that a prisoner escaped, you must be at the keeps." I wanted to sound concerned to him yet my voice appears to be hoarse.
"I won't be home for a week, Terra. I shall be working at the fields to train the soldiers for the upcoming battle, and I need you to stay here." His words were pressing and my eyes rounded upon knowing that he will not be coming home for a while.
"What happened? Why will there be a war? What did the prophetess tell you?" I questioned yet his complexion shifted upon hearing the words I muttered.
"What do you know about the prophetess? Stop meddling with the plans of other people," he stated and sighed. "Terra, you know how much I love you, you are my only daughter, I cannot afford to lose you as to how I lose your mother..." he added and gently pulled me closer to his chest. He hugged me and kissed my forehead, he smiled at me before he could go out of my room.
"Farewell, Father..." I whispered.
He told me to always call Sage whenever I need something but I do not want to depend on anyone. I noticed how everybody felt so disturbed upon knowing that someone escaped from the dungeon. All I have in mind is, the captive must have been reasonably dangerous.
I hasten myself to change my clothing and decided to go out of the field. I guess that the town has been in turmoil again, I heard that someone's committing adultery in our neighborhood, and it did not give any good for the townsmen, it only triggers anger which eventually causes them to commit murder.
It often happens around our country, and I can say that it is one of the wicked things to behold with my own eyes. No matter how kind they can be to treat others, inside their hearts shout only evil.
I glance at my reflection on the mirror and I bitterly parted my lips upon recalling what occurred lately at the Palace. "The King already saw my hair and he knows it is forbidden, why does it seem to be alright with it?" I muttered and thought of it. Does he have a plan to throw me into the dungeon? or steal my life?
I could feel the sudden tension of the memory, if Prince Timothy did not come at that moment, it would be a total horror for me.
"I should go out and relax myself in the woods," I added and took my satchel, my quiver, and my bow and arrows. As I swung the door open, I behold the face of Sage Williams. I glared at her for surprising me and I found out that she has been eavesdropping, as usual.
"Do you really wish to meet your death, Sage?" I asked which made her stunned on her foot.
I passed through her but before I could finally go away from her presence, I spoke. "I shall be going out tonight, I know you will end up telling this to my father but I am asking you to spare your words for the rest of your life," I paused for a moment from stepping and proceeded to talk. "You know I am not hesitant to kill anybody," I added and left her dumbfounded.
Occasionally, it made me think of my fate. I was born to dwell with the wicked, and I was nearly adopting from their ways which I certainly find wrong. Yet, whenever I think that I am from a ferocious nation, it shoves my mind to think and act as one. So mayhaps killing somebody cannot be considered as wrong?
I went downstairs and saw the dishes at the table, yet I do not want to stop and eat. I must keep going until I reach the place. "I better go get some for snacks," I mumbled and took half of the toasted turkey and two loaves of bread.
I proceeded to my feet outside my home and a displeasing atmosphere eventually greeted my sight. As usual, I felt disappointment in my heart as I witness the townsmen, being greedy and selfish.
"Will you all stop stealing from me?" I heard the old man plead as he fell to the ground and wept bitterly. The beggar gradually took the jar of water which was poured out onto the sandy earth.
See how evil we can be? Seeing somebody in anguish and misery is pleasing before their sight.
I sigh once more, what does it have to do with me? Even if I feel compassion in my heart, I cannot put everything into action. There are moments in my life where I feel useless.
I quicken to run away from the crowd and as I arrived at the gates of the woods, I admire how the tall branches and thorns were everywhere. The last time I went here was when Ezekiel warned me that my life was in danger.
"It is good to be finally back," I retorted and began to walk ahead.
I saw how the moon luminously shines above as it tries to lighten up my way, after a minute of walking on the moisten ground, I reached my destination and I witness how the springs of water overflow out of the river rocks.
The excitement within me arises yet when I was about to walk near, my eyes widened in horror upon beholding a fire. The flames run through the branches and it turns everything into ashes. Torches were falling from the same direction and I hasten to grab my bow, and although my arm still aches, I bravely shot the location with my arrows.
My feet rush towards the riverside and thought of stopping the fire from spreading but it is no use. It slowly devours the entire forest and the streams of water gradually dry up.
"No!" I could not help myself but cry out upon the resentment I felt.
I once more wander my sight to my surroundings and as the trees were collapsing due to the outbreak, I saw a figure of a woman and on her hand was a torch. "You," I greeted my teeth in anger and attempted to shoot her with arrows, I hit her on the shoulder twice yet, unfortunately, she run and escaped.
"She burned the forest," I once more muttered, and before I could even run from the place, I heard a sinister cry and a dark aura filled the entire area.
A black smoke fled right after and as I lifted my eyes to see the sky, I saw a lady riding a broom with her eyes in red and her dark raven hair freely fleeing after her.
"No way,"
Her scary presence shouts her name, Constance... and I know that she is heading to the town to curse everyone.
That woman destroyed the forest, the witch's home!
