Chapter 18 What Is Truth

It's midnight and the only noise that can be heard are the gushes of flames as it burns the carved branches which were placed at the center. Terra Elliot let go of a sigh as she stares at the fire before her sight, she squats at the camp while Celeste watched her from afar.
They had decided to stay for the night so they could regain their energy as the two of them let their wounds be healed. Celeste quietly sat on a huge stone as she tries to figure out what exactly is going on in her life.
She was detained by the authorities and was imprisoned at the dungeon of the Kingdom of Thornsfrost. "Hindi ko mawari kung nananaginip lamang ako," she whispered to herself and let go of a sigh.
A tall man arrived and Terra could not look away from him. "What is it this time?" He questioned as he comfortably sat on a branch near a huge tree.
"You did not finish the story you have been telling us," she demanded and he simply chuckled. "Oh please, I'm truly disturbed."
"You are interested to know the end of my story?" Sam Williams teasingly asserted and he is so pleased upon seeing her countenance looking so annoyed.
"Tell us what happened next?" Terra urged him. The man signaled Celeste to come closer for he is about to continue the story. He truly wants them to know the truth yet he is somewhat uninterested to foretell everything. It was his story, his family's story and it somewhat triggers what is transpiring in the present time.
"Harlow and Zachary became close, and they built a connection," he continued and glanced at the two ladies who are attending to his story. "She anyhow desires to move on when Sebastian broke her heart." And he momentarily keep silent, for he could not believe that the spirits revealed the entire occurrence to him.
"And Sebastian is your father?" Celeste muttered, gazing at his eyes and he simply nodded. He tried to hide his emotions away from them, he doesn't want anybody to see him soft.
He had lived alone in the woods, away from his siblings and he survived. He always wanted to show that he is fearless and dominant.
"Harlow eventually fell for him, she tried to hide her feelings yet the celestials can perceive and see human hearts because the King has given them the ability," he continued.
Sam shifted his gaze and placed them to the flames. He was watching how the fire grew bigger, and he simply smiled bitterly. "The King revealed that Hades was once like them yet rebelled because of his prideful attitude, desiring to take the role as a king. Zachary can see that Harlow is falling for him, and he wants to protect her because he loves her already. It is funny where love can lead you, it pushes you to do beyond your limit."
"I am afraid to fall in love," Celeste whispered to herself. Terra heard her and so she took a glimpse of the lady beside her.
"What makes you feel so afraid about it?" Terra asked as she tries to figures out the paints of sparkles in her irises.
"Because it is the reason why I lost my family," she plainly replied which cause the other lady to lock her mouth.
Sam Williams stood up and went near them, he could sense how the atmosphere became to feel uncomfortable. He smirks at them and his fangs were visible. His charming features would make every women's heart melt yet his fearing aura would cause everyone to lie on the ground lifeless. He sigh and proceeded to speak once more, "To sum it up, they married and hope for a better life with each other with the King's guidance but we all know that love stories don't always end with a happy ending."
"That only indicates how bitter you are," Celeste asserted and Terra simply chuckles.
He shrugged off and ignored their little laughter. "The King of Caddel found out that his daughter was alive because Hades told him, he requested once again to Hades, hundreds and thousands of armies to attack the Heights but in an exchange for a soul." He continued and glanced at them, their expressions were so serious and they were startled upon what they heard.
"Another soul?" The ladies asked in unison.
"The devil always offers something with an exchange," he replied and lifted his face to behold the stars which coated the firmament. "He eventually sold the soul of his wife, Hyacinth and she died."
"How could he simply allow that to happen? Even the life of his wife, he wasted, unbelievable." Said Terra with a hint of disgust on her complexion.
"Did that really happen?" Celeste was reassured and dazed upon attending to the story, expecting it already ended. "Wow, what a great story you got there," she commented.
With a confused look, Terra glanced at them. "That's all?"
"We are not in the exciting part yet," he teasingly retorted which made his companion frown in dismay.
"Oh please get to that part, I am somewhat seeking for the key to a puzzle. I won't know what is behind all of these if I cannot attain to hear out that exciting portion of your story," Terra blurted. She feels so annoyed by his taunting look yet she wanted to calm herself to avoid any discomfort.
"I perceived that Hades with his armies attacked the Kingdom of the Celestials. Many died, and a great outcry occurred. They successfully took Harlow out of the place, and immediately leave. She was miserable and locked herself inside her room."
"And?"
"Hades attempted to harass her yet Sebastian came in and attacked the deity of Underworld," he responded.
"What came next?"
Sam pretended to think deeply of the events from the past and he sure remembers all of them, he felt bitter as he proceeded to tell the entire story to the beautiful ladies with him. "As far as what I recall, she isolated herself and the King arranged her for marriage with my father, Sebastian hoping that she would obey them but we all know how she loathed him."
"But your father is already married to your mother, was that even possible? Wouldn't that become awkward to the family?" Celeste interrupted.
"As might be expected," he replied. "Sebastian attempted to approach her and provide comfort, but he has another motive, he wants to bed her yet, unfortunately, he didn't succeed."
"Shameful it is," Terra mumbled something.
"As what I know, Harlow found out she's pregnant. She knew whose the Father and it is quite obvious to say that it is Zach, they are married and I do not see any wrong."
"Did she try to hide her situation? The Caddel seems to be very strict," Terra questioned, she was becoming interested to know more about the history of Lanslow.
"I am afraid you are right, they indeed found out that she has a baby inside her womb. They thought Sebastian was the father, but he despises the fetus." He momentarily pause indicating that he has ended the story, the two women stared deeply at her, waiting for something to come out from his mouth.
"What?" He asks.
"You ended the story?" Celeste sarcastically asks.
"What came about?" Terra was desperate to know more about the current situation of the Caddels. Upon knowing that Sage Williams is their sister, she could not think any better. She seems to be stuck inside a maze.
"Can you at least enlighten me?" Terra demanded once more.
"You haven't clarified each important detail, what I wish to say is I want to know either King Thaddeus is still alive, how about your mother and your father? Harlow and the baby along with the rest of the clan must have been alive until now," Terra retorted with teary eyes. She could feel herself shaking and she is frightened by the confusing feeling she has been sensing.
"It would surprise you, Terra. If I were you, I better not dig deeper into that mystery." His voice was pressing and she perceives that he was being serious in his phrase.
With her reckless behavior, she nearly hurt herself. Celeste remained quiet as she watch Terra feeling so pressed. She recalls their first encounter and she wanted to laugh at how dumb it could be. "... How would I infer the huge puzzle I am about to unravel if you would not even assist me. Spill the tea, Sam." Terra requested as she tries to calm herself, yet meanwhile, the man understands her deep emotions.
"If I told you about the truth, it will only cause you to be stuck in another maze," he uttered.
"Spill it."
"You are the daughter of Harlow Caddel," he muttered with a hoarse voice. Emotionless as he is, he did not show any reaction.
Terra appears to be afloat, she could not process everything in her mind and she feels so stuck in space.
"Liar."
