“Don’t be so sure. What will you do if I am correct?” he smirked
“Your confidence is over the top. I like that but tell me first what will you bet.” I asked
“Let us make some things clear first. I will win if we both noticed that he likes you?”
“That doesn’t make sense because we are now friends so you might assume that he likes me because of his actions like being caring and worried,” I said
“Then what do you suggest?”
“If he confessed that he likes me then you won but if he doesn’t then I win. But we also need to set a time limit because we cannot keep on betting for a long time.”
“Okay, how about three months?”
“Game so what will you bet on?” he asked while smiling
“Tell me what you want. If I can do it then I will grant it to you. You must be sensible on your request.”
“Be in a relationship with me if I win,” he answered
“What? You’re kidding, right? Why can’t you be serious? Remember that we are just doing this for fun.” I scowled at him
“What if that is what I want?” he smiled
“Okay, you want to play it like that huh. Then if I win, you will also do the same. Let us be in a relationship for a month. I don’t back out on these kinds of dares.” I said
“Are you sure about that? Because I am more than willing to be your boyfriend,” he answered
“Ewww! Will you be serious and tell me what you want?” I shuddered at the thought of us being in a relationship
“Hahaha, why do you seem flabbergasted by the thought of being in a relationship with me?” he laughed
“We both know that it is not possible. So tell me what you want.” I asked again
“Be my slave for a month,” he smirked
“Nonsense! You are not in a movie to be asking that.” I scoffed
“I want to experience it so can you grant it to me?”
‘Have you been watching too much drama? That doesn’t work in real life.” I said
“Then we can try it to see if it will work?” he said seriously
“Are you serious? What drama have you been watching lately?” I asked
“Don’t worry because I won’t be like the ones you see on the drama that are so mean. I will be asking you for reasonable chores that you will do like maybe watching me play or holding my water,” he said
“Oh, you like that huh. Okay, then you will do the same if I will win. Be my slave also for a month. What do you say?” I said
“No problem with me. Let us do that then,” he said before offering me his pinky finger
“What are you doing?” I raised an eyebrow
“We should make a promise to make sure that what we agreed will happen,” he explained
I rolled my eyes before offering my pinky to make a promise. This is one of the things that I hate about myself, I tend to say yes to nonsense dares. I am sure that I will not be a slave so I am confident to say yes.
“Coach is looking for you. I think he needs your help in screening some of the newcomers.” Daniel said after the class
“What? Why would he need me when there are other athletes there? I am only a member of the club because you asked me a favor.” I said
“Why are you getting annoyed at me? I was not the one who asked you to go there. Coach asked me to relay the message to you.” he said as he swirl the racket
“I have training on softball so I can’t be there,” Jessica said as she walked past me
“This is both your fault. I told you that I am not interested last year and now this is the result of you forcing me.” I said
“Stop pretending that you don’t like it when you always have your racket with you,” Jessica said before running away
“I would love to smack that girl. I don’t have my racket with me right now.” I said
“You can use mine,” Daniel said
“That racket was customized for you since you are left-handed but I guess it will do. I can adjust easily and the coach might think that I am always making excuses.” I answered
I arrived at the gym where they are screening students who wants to join the Ping-Pong club. Freshman students were nervously sitting on one side of the gym while some senior students were talking on the other side.
“Althea, thank you for coming. I need your help in screening some of the new members.” the coach said
“What do I have to do?” I asked
“Can you play with them one on one? The seniors will rate the evaluation as they watch the game. You will play with the girls and Daniel will do the boys.” the coach explained
“How many minutes do I have to play with one?” I asked
“I think five to ten minutes would be fine. I thought of calling you because you seem less intimidating than your seniors,” he said
I nodded my head before smiling at the nervous freshmen. I approached my seniors who were already seated to see the evaluation paper that they prepared. I haven’t joined the screening last year so I am not sure about the criteria that they have.
“Can I have a copy of the evaluation? I just want to see what I need to do so you can evaluate them properly.” I asked
“We just needed to see their speed, agility, and quickness so just play with them properly.” Eric, one of the seniors explained.
“I think she needs to change clothes since wearing a uniform will be too uncomfortable,” Daniel said as he looked me up from head to toe
“Did you bring any extra clothes today? I hope you have and I am sorry for not telling you in advance.” Eric asked
I am currently wearing a skirt, blouse and black shoes at that time and I know that I couldn’t play properly in that attire.
“I do have my P.E uniform at my locker so I think that will do. Give me 5 minutes to change.” I said before leaving the gym
I sighed as I stood in front of my locker with crossed arms. I only have my P.E shirt and sneakers in there because I brought home my shorts yesterday.
“Oh, whatever. I am wearing some cycling shorts anyway so I can just wear my skirt.” I said to myself
“You don’t have shorts or jogging pants?” Daniel said as soon as I entered the gym
“Don’t worry about it. I can manage and I think I can still do my best with these clothes.” I said shrugging my shoulders
“If you say so. Good luck,” he said before handing his racket.
“Are you ready? Don’t be nervous and relax. Do your best okay.” I said to my first opponent.
“Yes,” she answered shortly
“Don’t worry because I am not that good and I don’t bite,” I said smiling
I want them to feel at ease because they might not show their full potential if they are nervous. I don’t want to be the scary sunbae for them. I decided to go easy on them at first and then adjust according to how good they are.
“Good job! I heard about you from Jessica before. You have been competing since primary school so I think you would pass easily.” I said to the first person as I gave her a handshake after the game.
She smiled before going back to her seat. She was quite a strong opponent but I think she still needs some training. I am a little worried that the others might be nervous now after watching the game.
“Good luck! The others might beat you easily.” I said as I handed the racket to Daniel.
“Haha, watch me and see how you should play table tennis properly,” Daniel said
“Don’t brag that much. We both know that I can easily beat you if I want to.” I jokingly said
“Then you should stop doing it as a hobby and try competing,” he said
“Are you saying something?” I ignored him and pretended I didn’t hear him even if he said that aloud.
I was drinking water when Daniel sat down beside me breathing hard. We are already done playing with everyone and they are now given the result by the seniors. I don’t want to be involved in giving the results so I am staying away.
“You did a great job,” I said as I handed him his water.
“You too. I like how you adjusted your pace so that the others can show what they can do. You aren’t cold-hearted after all.”
