I woke up startled by the noise I heard coming outside the room. Last night I slept off watching a movie called ‘All I ever wanted on my laptop. At first, I thought the noise was coming from my laptop but it wasn’t possible because I paused the movie. I started getting up but my attention fell on the lights outside, flashing blue and red strobes engulfed every object in its wake. I got up to look out the window and saw two policemen talking to the hostel warden.
My eyes widened and my heart raced. I was unsure of what was going on and considered the possibility that it is another strange dream of mine. I continued looking out the window, seeing more, police cars surrounding the hostel.
"What is going on, why are they here," I muttered.
I instantly turned around when the room door was pushed open, a lady dressed in a police uniform walked into the room "Rachel Miller, I will like to have a word with you" She said
My mind asked myriad questions, questions like what I did wrong, if my family was okay, what happened, and most importantly of all students why did she choose to talk to me.
I hummed my response, grabbing a sweater I walked outside with her. I felt like a criminal, all eyes were on me, as we walked out of the hostel.
"Please take a seat." She pointed at a bench outside.
I gulped walking towards it, I gently sat down. "Did I do something wrong?" I asked
"We’re not sure yet, all we want to do is ask you some questions." She responded
She’s not sure yet. That means I’m a suspect. Relax Rachel, she just wants to ask you some questions, no big deal but why me? Why not other students?
"Some questions? About what?" I asked
"It’s about your friend Kya."
"Kya?" I questioned
I barely know Kya, I just met her yesterday and now the cops want me to say something about her.
"Yes, Kya. For how long have you been friends with Kya?"
"Kya and I aren’t exactly friends, we just happen to know each other and that’s because Kya wants to work at the cafeteria," I responded
"Okay, can you tell me when last you met her?"
"Last night. Is everything okay?"
"Uhm…last night something happened to her."
"What happened to her? Is she okay?" I instantly asked
"I think Kya was murder."
"Holy lord!" I sighed
I can’t believe it, we were supposed to meet today, I can’t believe she’s dead. How is that possible?
"Rachel, I want you to be honest with me, tell me everything you know. Did Kya mention something about her being followed or did she look scared or anything like that?"
"Umm….I don’t know, she was….Uhm.."
"Relax, okay, take a deep breath and then talk to me." She cut me off
Right now I have no words, being interrogated by a cop is something that I never thought will happen to me especially when it’s about a murder case. I took a long deep breath and then gulped when I saw the creepy girl from afar. I closed my eyes and slowly opened them, exhaling air one more time. "Don’t let her get in your head, she’s not real, she’s not real." My inner thought said.
"You feel better?" The officer asked and I nodded in agreement "Great, now tell me exactly what happened."
"Kya came to me, she wanted to know everything about the job at the cafeteria, I explained it to her and that was all," I said
"She didn’t say anything about anyone following her or about her being scared of someone?"
"Uhm…no, I don’t remember talking about any of that with Kya."
"What about her roommate, do you know anything about her?" She inquired
"No, I don’t."
"Okay Rachel, but I might come back sometime to ask you more questions." She stood up and was about to leave
"Officer, why did you choose to ask me questions, why not someone else?" I stood up and walked toward her
"Kya was last seen with you according to our research" She tap my shoulder "But you have nothing to worry about as far as you aren’t" She paused as she touched my neck "Where did you get this scar from?"
"Scar?" I touched the spot.
When and how did I get this scar?
"Officer Maria." An officer called out.
She turned around and walked toward the officer.
I can’t believe Kya was murdered, why will anyone do that to her? I thought about this for a little while before I recalled something, last night, Kya mentioned something about that girl, maybe she did something to her. I have to tell the cops about it. I walked towards the cops, taking five steps forward, she appeared behind them, she was standing almost beside them but it seems like they didn’t acknowledge her presence. I gulped, I was too scared to walk towards them, if she truly killed Kya then she won’t spare me for snitching on her.
I stood by the corner, letting out a breath, I rested my back on the wall and closed my eyes. I could hear the conversations of the police officers.
"Did you get any update from them yet?" I heard a female officer say
"Yes, the reports are horrible, he said he has never seen anything like that before, it was like her eyes were pulled from the inside and her bones were bent in a way that is not meant to be." He responded to her
"Holy lord!"
"Her jaw was wrenched and her body…Holy lord…. I think she was possessed by something." The officer said
"Come on, possessed?" She questioned
"You need to see it, it’s very horrifying, I don’t know about your experience but as for me, I have never seen such a case before."
"Get in the car, I need to see the body."
Once I heard the officer's car drive away, I walked back to my room. I’m not a touchy-feeling type of girl but I truly feel like crying right now. I don’t know Kya personally but she was a really good person. I lay on the bed and closed my eyes, I’m sure that creepy girl did something to her, she killed Kya and the worst part of it is that I can’t tell anyone about it.
