GRANDMA’S POV
A thrilling warm air fouled up as cold air rushes in underneath to replace it, I was covered with a blanket yet I felt freezing. I heard my thought, 'the world is shaken'. Things are not what they are. Still laid on the bed, I turned to grab the air conditioner remote which was kept on the table beside me, as I did I realized it was off. As the wind increased, my body cooled at a faster rate causing my skin temperature to drop. I turned around and looked at the windows; there were all closed. My eyes widened as my breath got short and fast, he is here. I began hyperventilating as I continuously pressed the button next to my bed. I can’t believe he’s here, after so many years he’s back.
"Hello, old friend!" I heard its demonic voice echo in my ear
I flinched at his words, still in shock at his presence, I was about to speak when I recalled the curse. I slowly closed my eyes and let my inner soul talk to him.
"Why are you here?" I asked
"You brought me here."
"Go back, you don’t belong here," I whined
"It's almost time to take her, she will join us."
"Tell it to stay away from Rachel, she has nothing to do with this," I growled out
"He wants her and he will get her, It doesn’t matter anymore, she will be his."
"No, no, Rachel has nothing to do with this, let her go."
"Ohh, old friend. If it wants her, he will get her. I have nothing to do about it." The voice said
"Please, she has been through a lot already, spare her, spare her," I whined
"She’s been through a lot because of you, you are the reason for the darkness in her life"
"No! I will stop him before he does anything to her, he has no right over Rachel."
"You can’t stop him now, he is twice powerful as before." The demonic voice echoed
"It doesn’t matter, I will_" I flinched when I felt the others coming, there were near, and I could feel their strong aura "Tell them to go, tell them to go" I yelled
"You chose this life for them, didn’t you? You are the cause of their mishap"
"No! I didn’t do anything, I didn’t do anything."
"You did everything, you made me part of him, he made me him because of you and if he wants Rachel, he will get her." With that, he vanished
"Come back, tell him to stay away from Rachel, she’s just a kid," I whined
I slowly opened my teary eyes, adjusting to the lights, I blinked twice and came face to face with a dark soul. She stood right in front of me, her doused hair covering her face, the warmth of her skin, long since drained, left only a sickly pale stain to adorn her rotting flesh.
My heart pounded as my breath got lost in my lungs, I tried to scream but my voice got held in my throat. She smiled at me and in an instant, she shoved her hand into my mouth, I could feel her fingers nails trailing on my hard palate down to my vocal fold and then deep into esophageal muscles. Every mouth organ of mine felt her trembling claws fingernail, it felt suffocating. I struggled to draw her fingers, but couldn’t. I pulled my left hand and again went to withdraw her fingers, but her other arm was in a good position to hold my grip.
As she deepened her hand, I felt my eyelid closing, and my body strained by degrees. The last thing I heard is the ring of the hospital alarm.
A few hours later, my ears were encircled by the sound of machines beeping and the noise of whispers from around the emergency room and intensive care unit. My eyes started to slowly open till slightly hazy, once my eyes cleared; they started to adjust to the brightness of the room.
"Mom" She quickly stood up and embraced me "Oh my god, I’m so glad you’re okay." She said
I gave her a weak smile. I may be okay now but I won’t be later. If I want to get to Rachel and warn her, I have to let him take me, that’s my only option.
"I will go get Kevin and the doctor, you should rest a bit, I will be right back." She turned around and walked towards the door, as her hand reached out for the door handle, I pressed the button beside my bed. Turning back she walked toward me.
"Do you need anything mom?" She asked
How will I tell her that Rachel is in danger, I have to go help her, if it takes her with him, she won’t be able to survive there. She most likely doesn’t know anything or what she's going through. I am the curse and if Rachel is chosen to suffer from it then I have to risk everything and save her.
I slowly closed my eyes and then opened them, I gave her a weak smile again in which she smiled back at.
"I will just go get the doctors." She said once again.
Once she left. I closed my eyes and called him out. If he’s near he will let me in.
"Hello, old friend." He appeared in my presence
"I’m ready to be his minions, I can live in this world no more," I said; my heart rapidly beat practically giving up.
"You are with us already, your soul belongs to him, he owns all and he takes all." He declared as he opened up to let me in, the dark world wants me there.
My mother once told me that; if you cannot die peacefully in old age, at least die a noble death protecting the people you love. Those words were her last words to me, they are more than just alphabet words, they are her last advice to me and I think they will be my last words to say.
I repeated those words to myself, I may be the cause of everything but I won’t let Rachel suffer from it. I sank into him, the blade didn’t just rip my skin apart but it yank on my heart, gazing through the glass at the tear-stained faces of my past, the good and bad all were stained with tears of blood. From the mottling of my hands, I know there is nothing that can stop me from turning. So I waved goodbye and welcomed the void, knowing this final sacrifice will keep them safe.
