Fatal Situation

Chapter 73: Fatal Situation
“What!”
“You are maybe pregnant.” She repeated.
“That’s impossible, I should feel that if I am pregnant, and it’s been months since that day. My stomach should grow bigger by now, and especially, I should hear its heartbeat.” I said I was confident when I said that. She did not know the whole story. It has been months and I lost count of when I was last with him. The last full moon, I guess.
“I am not messing around, you cannot be that powerful for you are half-blooded even if you are Minerva’s descendant or an ancient healer white werewolf. That power would only be possible if it was the combination of the power of two witches or wizards.” I shook my head. She was talking nonsense. How could that be possible when I have a flat stomach?
“No,”
“You and your child’s power.” She said and I was on the verge of shifting. “Hear me out, I will not say something like this for nothing. I have seen that kind of power before in your grandmother when she was pregnant with your mother. Also, when your mother was pregnant with you.”
“But that’s impossible, look at me! Do I look like a pregnant woman? I am surrounded by werewolves, Miradel. They have a sharper sense of hearing than I am, they must have heard its heartbeat if that’s true. And most especially, I must have given birth by now since, I repeat, it was a long time when I was with him.” She was too persistent. And she was creeping the hell out of me.
“Listen to me, you are powerful and the child in your womb is more powerful than you. That knew that you are in a fatal situation so he or she is hiding until it was time to come out. Your baby can hear you, us, and everything that is happening around you. It was keeping itself safe not to give you so much burden.
“How is that possible?”
“No one knew. But I saw your mother being in the same situation before. She went to Trigonia asking for assistance and protection claiming she was pregnant, but she had a flat stomach. That time your father was in the middle of a war.
I could not understand why your grandmother believe your mother when in my eyes she was lying. Your grandmother helped your father to win the war and your mother indeed gave birth the night after that. There was peace after that until the other pack learned her ultimate secret.” My eyes pooled with tears when she said those. They seemed to be true but that can’t be.
“That her power was already passed down to you, and she was powerless.” She finished the story and I looked at my stomach.
“I was five that time.”
“You were.”
“What happened back then?”
“Your parents died so as your grandmother, a few of our count manage to escape. Minerva died helping the werewolves so we closed our gate from the werewolves and refuse to meddle in any werewolf problem anymore.”
“And my aunt?”
“She was jealous younger sister; your mother inherited more power from their mother. She was a rebellious daughter and explore the world. All she knew was everything was already fine when you were born. She enjoyed herself and we never heard from her again. We even thought she was already dead.”
So that was the story.
“Are you saying I am maybe pregnant?” I still hold the possibility that it was just her hunch.
“I am ninety-five percent sure.”
“We still have five percent.” But if I was truly pregnant…
“There’s one way to find out.” She spoke. Do I want to find it out? What if I am pregnant?
“How?”
“Call him or her,” she snapped her finger and a huge mirror appeared. “Stand up and look at the mirror.”
I did stand up and faced the mirror while she stood behind me. “I’m scared.”
I did not know what to feel. If I would be pregnant then I should be happy but I could not because of the situation. “What if I am?”
She held my hand and smiled warmly. A motherly smile that I never thought she have.
“Call him.” Him. Him?
I looked at my tummy and held it with my other hand. “My little fighter, are you there?” And the image of me with my big tummy appeared. I looked down and it was flat but, in the mirror,…
“Miradel,” I spoke, and my tears fell from my eyes. My tummy was glowing with blue light.
“Your little fighter will be born anytime soon. You only have little time left to finish this war.” I clasped my mouth with my hand and my tears continue to fall.
“And when I give birth…”
“Your power will be his.” She answered.
“And I would be powerless.” She nodded and hugged me from my back. I cried more when she hugged me. It had been a long time since I felt this kind of warmth.
She let me cry it all and waited for me to calm down. When I was finally calm, she hid in the mirror and we sat. “What should I do now?”
“Move earlier than planned. And try not to stress yourself.”
“How?” This was more frustrating than she could understand.
“Think about him, you’re bearing his baby.” Rylan? “What is he like?”
“I don’t know, I erased all my memory about him. So I could work on this war without distraction. He’s dead anyway.” Pity was the only thing I could see in her eyes. I never thought she could be like this.
“Thank you,” and her tears suddenly fell.
“You shouldn’t thank me.” She said while wiping her tears. “I’m sorry for judging you.” I stared at her and let her cry it all. “I only have your grandmother back then and I blamed her children for her death. She died protecting you and your family.” She clasped her hand on her mouth to pour her tears silently.
“It was true, she died because of me, the war started when my existence was publicized.” She shook her head.
“I could never understand her, how she protects her children because I was never a mother. I only have her, I want her to be safe, but I cannot stop her from helping her daughter.” She held my hand and looked me in the eyes.
“I’m sorry.”
“You have the right to be angry, you don’t have to say sorry,” I said and she cried more.
“Do you know that she used to say the exact words to me every time I mess up? That my action was reasonable enough and what mattered was I realized my mistake. I miss her so much.” I hugged her and I felt her arms around me. She was holding me close as if she did not want to let me go.
“It’s time to do right.” She whispered and I nodded.
“Yeah, let’s get this done,” I said. We wiped our tears.
“Can you promise me something, Miradel?” She faced me with a confused expression. “That if I die, you’ll take my child and protect him at all costs?”
