Chapter 64 How to move on

Author's POV
Sitting in his cabin, sipping coffee, Xi Song heard Ling Xiao's break-up story. As usual, he looked out towards the clock. As soon as the clock struck 11, he got up while taking his coat and said, "Well, you keep sitting; I am going to make rounds."
As he started to leave, Ling Xiao asked, holding his hand. "Are you really my friend? I'm in pain, and you're leaving me."
"Do you expect me to babysit you then?" Freeing his hand from his grip, he added. "At least breakups are better than having a divorce."
His words choked his breath as he stood, looking at him in disbelief. "Wait, are you having a divorce? Why? Did you two fight? Does she start hating you too?"
His questions were like throwing a rock over broken glass. He glared, cursing him underneath. "Do you want to die?"
"I'm just asking, lol."
"I'm better if she wants this. At least I'm not hiding anything from her anymore."
A knock on the door stopped their talk right there.
"Dr. Song, Dr. Ling, the director wants to meet you two."
"Coming!"

Xingyue's POV
After a few days off, I felt relaxed after returning to work. I was enjoying our coffee time with Xia Na when I glanced at her.
She was not as cheerful as before. It seemed as if it had unexpectedly rained heavily on a sunny day.
Her eyes were swallowed enough for pits to be visible. I discovered that she didn't sleep properly.
"If I ask you what's wrong, will you tell me the truth, Xia Na?"
I knew that Xia Na always kept her pain within herself. No matter how heartbreaking she was, she pretended to be a firm, rigid lady in front of others.
That's why she could never express herself. She was there for others in their hard times, but in her own, she closed every door for everyone to reach her. I found out how she never got to heal herself. As she kept hiding her wounds, they became old, and she learned to live with them.
Trying to falsify a smile, she nodded her head. "You know me better than anyone. Actually, I chose to break up with him."
Upon hearing it, I quickly put my hand over her shoulder and caressed it. "I'm sure it was hard for you too." She kept looking down, trying to hide her tears. "Will he ever forgive me? Maybe I was his biggest heartbreak."
"Dr. Ling is smart enough. I'm sure he understands you will not do this without any strong reason."
Nodding her head barely, she gave a tiny smile to me when Tang Xue reached out.
"GUYS! GUYS!" She gasped, looking at us.
"What happened, Tang Xue?" I asked. "Are you joining any marathons?" Xia Na added a snarky look.
"We're finally having a workshop."
Hearing this, I could not believe my ears. Did I hear right? Giving a side eye, I gazed at Xia Na, whose eyes were wide too.
"Am I dreaming or what? Han Shuo is really organising a workshop?"
"It's true, guys. We're going to XingZhong Hill Station after tomorrow."

Author's POV
"How can I help you, Director Yi?"
He put two files in front of us, making them more suspicious.
"I heard our hospital is going on a medical camp. I hope he's not going to ask us for that." Ling Xiao whispered to Xi Song.
"I'm not in a mood to go as well," he whispered back.
His cheerful smile was the most dangerous rumour in the hospital. Whatever the director wanted, he persuaded the staff to do it.
"The two most outstanding doctors in our hospital are Dr. Song and Dr. Ling."
"I'm telling you, keep me out of this, Xi Song," he mumbled, stepping back.
"I hope you heard about the medical camp already. As you two had 100% records in the medical survey, why don't you lead this camp? Your juniors will be able to learn from you."
What they stressed happened. The director was ready to put their heads in the noose.
"Dr. Song, you're the perfectionist. I know you will love to share this experience with others too."
A smirk appeared on his lips as he flashed his eyes. "I would love to go, Director Yi, if my partner, Dr. Ling, joins me as well."
Gapping his jaw, he grimaced at him with his eyes wide open. "Me?" He pointed his finger at himself and sneered. "Dr. Song, I think one should be here as well. What if there was an emergency in the hospital?"
"You don't need to worry about this, Dr. Ling. You can go with Dr. Song. I'll take care of it." The director shared a smile with Xi Song. "You love travelling, right? You can enjoy XingZhong Hills during your stay."
"But Director Yi..." Heading towards the door, he left from there, leaving them in distress.
Sighing, he gave a bombastic side-eye to Xi Song. "Yaa! Why did you drag me along?"
"You think I'll suffer alone? Not at all until we're friends, my lovely mate, Ling Xiao."
"I want a breakup with you too. I can't live my life with you."
"In your dreams." Picking up the file, he winked and left.
..................................................
Spreading his arms in the air, Ling Xiao yawned. "We're finally in XingZhong Hill station."
"Dr. Song, what should I do with this emergency kit?" A lady asked, carrying the kit.
"You can hand it over to Block B. I'll go with Dr. Ling and check Block A."
"Alright, Dr. Song."
Arriving at block A, Ling Xiao beamed at the sight of the cool breeze and the serene hills. "This place is so heavenly and beautiful."
"You should thank your best friend for dragging you here."
"Never."
He pressed his lips together in wonder. "And you still want a breakup with me? I'm too nice for you, I guess."
"Yuck!"
Snickering at his words, he walked inside the tent with him.
After a while, when they started arranging their tools, Ling Xiao heard a familiar voice. He shook his head and started working again until he heard this voice again. Frowning at his place, he glimpsed at Xi Song, who was attentively focused on working.
"Hey, am I hallucinating? I just heard Xia Na's voice."
Glancing at him with his narrowed eyes, he conveyed, "It's just an effect of the break-up phase. You'll be okay soon."
Both went back to their work until Xi Song heard Xingyue's voice. His hand halted for a moment. "Wait, Ling Xiao, am I hallucinating too? I heard Xingyue's voice too."
He forced a laugh, replying. "I'm sure it's an effect of the divorce phase. Don't worry, you'll be okay soon, Dr. Song."
Rolling his eyes, he looked out for another bag.
"I'll go and check Block C now." Ling Xiao informed him. "I'll join you soon," he replied.
He took his bag and headed out.
"Block C is near the motel, I see." Reading the map, he stepped ahead when he heard someone calling his name.
"Ling Xiao?"
Peeking at the path, he found Tang Xue standing there with Xia Na and Xingyue beside her.
"So, it was not a hallucination," he muttered.
