CHAPTER 14

YVO’S POV
"We're leaving tomorrow," Constance briefly said.

"Really? Why did you pick us up right away?" I shockingly asked when we were riding in a white van.

"Nothing. It's okay that you're in the town already."

"Well, you’re right. Darling, are you alright? Are you sleepy? You woke up early in the morning. You woke up at four o'clock. You can go to sleep; I'll watch over you."

Magdalen was between us inside the van, but my daughter was more attached to me. She’s not used to his daddy yet and I understood that.

"I'm not sleepy, mama. Will we see Aling Francine again?"

She just stared at me while waiting for my answer. "Yes," I replied smiling.

"Yehey!" Then, she focused her attention to the view outside the moving van.

"What did Aling Speranza tell you, darling?"

"I should be a good girl."

"What did you tell her?"

"I said I would be a good girl."

"That's good to hear. Very good."

After the conversation, we remained quiet until we arrived at a large resort in town near the sea.

"This will be your room and you can call for a room service anytime," Constance seriously said when we reached the front door of the first room on the 3rd floor. Who would have thought that our room would actually on the 3rd floor?
"Noted. Do you really need to be that serious always?" I jokingly said.
But he ignored what I said, as if he had heard nothing. "My princess, just call me in the other room when you need anything, ah."

Magdalen just nodded in response before she smiled. She would be comfortable with Constance at the right time. "I'm leaving," he said after looking at me with a serious look.

"A-alright," I uttered.

After I answered, he left immediately. We immediately went inside the room to arrange the things that the two of us would wear because we were leaving Coron the next day.

Magdalen was not hungry yet so we just rested on our bed for a while. But at about eleven o'clock in the morning, I ordered food so we could have lunch. Constance would be the one to pay so I had the courage to order.

Constance Artiles, the wealthy father of Magdalen!

I ordered chicken afritada because Magdalen requested a chicken dish. I also ordered plain rice, beef adobo, vegetables dish and fresh watermelon juice.

When the food arrived, we ate immediately because it wasn’t good to feel hungry for a long time. We enjoyed our lunch and we didn’t really waste any food.

"Everything is delicious," Magdalen commented after we ate.

"Indeed, darling. Are you full?"

"Yes."

"Your daddy will pay for it. Thank him when you see him, darling."

"Alright, I will."

"Very good. After 30 minutes we'll practice writing, ah?" I brought paper and pencil with us. Aling Reylyn gave those for Magdalen.

Hours and days passed quickly. We arrived in Manila safely. Until we lived inside Constance's house which was like a palace–spacious and beautiful. But it was difficult to live under his roof because there were always some eyes watching my actions. We were with Meyra who always raised an eyebrow every time she saw me. When Constance wasn't there, she was bringing out her bad attitude but I just let her do what she wanted to. I didn’t want to fight her. I also met Magdalen’s grandmother and grandfather. Her grandfather was kind but her grandmother obviously didn't like me. They were probably forty years old or older. I wasn't curious anymore because it didn't matter anymore.

Magdalen and I were sleeping in the same room, evident that we were still together. Constance was often not home because he took care of his family's business. His parents were also living in his house so I didn't leave our room that much unless it's really necessary or important. Magdalen was enrolled in kindergarten and I was still with her always. Constance’s driver would take us to school every day. Her class schedule was every morning, so in the afternoon we were just at home. Everything seemed fine.

The only awkward scene would be when we eat together with Magdalen’s family. I was the only one who's not a family member that’s why I felt uncomfortable. Meyra was accepted by Constance's family and Magdalen was related to them, while I was just a great extra.

Madam Bria didn't want to be called grandma so she told Magdalen to call her "Mommy Bria", while it's just okay for Sir Max to be called "Grandpa Max". I often avoided Madam Bria and Meyra. I really memorized what they would be doing and where they would go inside the mansion so that I knew where we could go and that we would not get their attention. We were often in the playroom and inside our room so that life would be peaceful.

Aling Speranza, Elton, and Aling Reylyn could still talk to us through my cellphone. They said they’re fine and staying strong. Every time I talk to them, I really miss our life in Coron when we’re still in the nipa hut. I miss Lavender too and the people there.

"Yvo."

I shockingly faced Madam Bria and suddenly felt nervous. She didn't smile at me, but she was smiling to others sometimes.

"W-why?"

Wait ... Did I do something wrong? Did I do something bads?!

"How's my granddaughter?" she seriously asked before sitting down on the couch in front of the couch I was sitting on. Magdalen was in the kitchen, so she had a chance to talk to me.

"S-she’s okay, madam. W-why?"

"Meyra told me that she could take care of my granddaughter. So, I'm thinking of giving her a chance to–"

"I'm sorry but I can take care of your granddaughter. I'll do everything."

Was it still not clear to them that Magdalen was more comfortable with me than Meyra? Why did I have to give that woman a chance to take care of my daughter?

"But Meyra would become my son's wife. She must take care of his daughter. Constance and Meyra couldn't just rely on you when it comes to Vyvyan forever. They should be able to try doing things together. Just the three of them. Some sort of family bonding. "

It was as if my head suddenly ached because of what Madam Bria was saying. Family bonding? They could have family bonding without Meyra taking care of Magdalen. It's as if I was just being pushed away.

"What do you want to happen, madam?"

I tried to smile. I already felt annoyed but I couldn't show it off because I was afraid some awful words might exit from my mouth.

"Let Meyra do your job," she said without any emotion. I already know why she wanted Meyra to take care of Magdalen. I was not really welcome in their family.
"What if your granddaughter doesn't want to cooperate?"

"Meyra could surely win her heart. You don't need to worry. It wouldn't be hard for Vyvyan to like Meyra. After all, Meyra loves children."

"That face loves children? How come?" I thought.

"What am I going to do when she takes care of your granddaughter?" I asked right away to ensure that I wouldn’t be thrown away just because I was useless.

"You can enjoy your life. Go anywhere. I'll give you some money."

"I enjoy my life even though I'm taking care of your granddaughter."

What else could I say so that she wouldn’t have to get Meyra to take care of Magdalen?

"Give others a chance, Yvo. I'll tell my granddaughter about this."

"But... Madam, I can't afford to be separated from your granddaughter. Go ask for anything else, but not this one. I’m begging you."

"I'll think of it. I'll go now."

She suddenly turned her back on me and I was left anxious. I never thought Meyra would do that. She was silent the last few days, but she already planned something that would break my heart.
[FLASH BACK]

"You talk like a fool, aren't you? From the beginning you knew you were nothing, but here you are causing this scene," Constance said without any emotion.

"Oh, wait. Maybe you want me to slap you with the truth, girl?" Meyra even raised an eyebrow at me.

"Leave her to me, Constance. Please," I said.

"We'll get her and that's final. She deserves better."

"But she won't be happy with you!"

"And she'll be happy with you? Who are you to say that?" Meyra said to me.
[END OF FLASHBACK]

Magdalen was getting used to their presence and I was no longer sure of what I said in the past. She could be happy with them…
[FLASHBACK]
"Yvo, we can't bring you because my daughter will just have a hard time forgetting you when she still sees you all the time."

"She doesn't have to forget me. I can't understand why she has to forget me. You want her to forget me? I'm sorry but she will only remember me more. You can't erase me from her life. Do you know you're ungrateful, Constance? Do you think your daughter could live if Ivy didn't entrust her to me? Do you think she would have grown up like that if I didn't take care of her? "Alright, don't take me with you, so that Magdalen won't come with you either."

"I'll sue you, Yvo. I'll put you in jail," I threatened her.

"I'm not afraid. I'm more afraid of not being able to watch over Magdalen. I'm telling you right away that I don't trust the woman you are with. I can't entrust Magdalen that easy to the two of you. Ivy entrusted her to me and I won’t let what you want to happen."
[END OF FLASHBACK]

I did hope they’re not doing it to defeat me. I did hope they they’re not doing it to make Magdalen forget me. But why should I be afraid? I should not be afraid. All I had to think about was what would be good for Magdalen and not about that Meyra. I knew it wouldn't be good for her to be with that woman.
I wondered if Constance know it.

"Mom, are you okay?" Magdalen asked worriedly when she found me stunned.

"Ah, eh, of course. Have you drunk fresh milk?"

She didn't want me to accompany her so I just let her go to the kitchen alone. I wish I had just accompanied her so that I wouldn't have to talk to Madam Bria.

"Yes," she replied smiling before sitting down next to me.

"Darling, promise me that I will be your only mom," I said emotionally although I didn't cry.

"Yes, mama. You will be my only mom." I felt contented with her answer and just hugged her wholeheartedly.

"I will hold on to what you said, darling," I thought.
