CHAPTER 16

I was assigned to clean an unused office and I was not yet able to meet the janitors Constance was talking about. They were probably assigned in another corner of the building and I might not see them right away. But that's okay, I could talk to them at the right time.
The hand gloves were cute because they’re pink. I used their dusting tool to clean the ceiling of the office and the rest of it. I also wiped the tables and chairs using a clean cloth with an all-purpose cleaner. It's a bit tiring but it's worth it because what I did was for my daughter. I must love my job. I was lucky because I got an instant job.

"Bruh, hurry up! Madam Bria needs the table," I heard a man say from outside the office.

"Wait, what table?" I thought.
I quickly hid under a table at the far end of the office when I heard the door open.

That was close!

The table where I was hiding was huge and made of wood. When you sit down, your feet or thighs cannot be seen. Best for hiding because you wouldn't be seen right away as long as you're not noisy.

"It's clean here, ah. Who cleaned here?" I heard another voice. The guy spoke with modesty and different from the previous one because he sounded like a joker or a funny guy. "That person didn't even put the dusting tool and the all-purpose cleaner on their right places. Our boss might scold us."

"And who cleaned here? We've been together in the canteen earlier. Don't you say there is a ghost cleaning here earlier? There is really a ghost. It’s true!" I heard the man say with a hoarse voice. There were three different people in the office with me.

"Maybe they are janitors!" I thought.

"That's enough. Let's lift that table at the end, oh. It's big. For sure it's too heavy." It was the guy who sounded like a joker.

But it didn’t immediately sink into my mind that the table I was hiding in was what that man was referring to.

Oh, no!

"Let's help each other. One, two, and three–"

"W-wait!" I showed up to them and waved. I stood up straight before I smiled at them. "I'm Yvo, the new janitress here."

They were so shocked that they could not speak immediately. A few more minutes passed before one of them was able to speak and the two were still stunned.

"I told you, there's really a ghost here. There it is, still smiling." It’s the man with a hoarse voice.

"I think that's a nice ghost." It was the guy who sounded like a joker.
"Why are you hiding? You stole something, didn't you?!" It’s the man with a hoarse voice again.

"I didn’t stole anything," I replied and looked at him. "You make me like to hit your nape. I’m getting annoyed with you."

"Chill, miss. Don’t mind Hots. It’s his first time to see a ghost janitress. I'm Tux," the guy who seemed to be a joker said.

I smiled at them and I just nodded to what Tux said. I memorized their names and faces. One of them didn’t introduce himself yet.

"And you, who are you?" I asked the guy who didn’t introduce himself yet.

"I'm Iwo."

"Ah, okay. Hots has a hoarse voice, Tux sounds funny when speaking, and Iwo speaks with modesty. "

"And we have to leave." Tux even laughed after he spoke and touched the table. "Let's go to madam. Hurry up!"

"We're leaving. Keep on cleaning." Hots spoke even though he seemed to be losing his voice.

"Yes, senior. You're lifting heavy things that's why your bodies are well-built. Try to join some pageants to win prizes." They hadn’t come out yet so I’d been able to suggest more.

"We have no talent," they answered in chorus before they could leave the office.

"That impossible," I whispered as they finally got out.

They were just humble. Iwo looked like an engineer. Tux could an owner of a resort. Hots must be a mall owner. They probably go to gym sometimes, unlike Constance who has probably never been to the gym once.

"I guess he has belly fat and he’s just hiding it HAHA."

"Who has belly fat?"

"You!"

Oh no!

I was shocked because he suddenly appeared. I didn’t know he’s coming because I was thinking so hard while wiping the desk.
Those men didn't close the door!

"How could you say that?" he asked with an annoyed face.

"Ah, eh, because you always look full."

I didn't want to lie, what I said was true.

"But you're handsome so that's okay," I added when he didn’t say a word. I guessed he was embarrassed. I suddenly hated myself for what I said to him, it hurt his ego for sure.
"That's okay. I'll accept you even if you grow up and fly to the sky." I joked him for him to laugh. "You're so serious. Smile. I'm just telling the truth. It's worse when you hear it from others. I'm just being honest."

"I can't forgive you!" He let go of those words as if I were a criminal. It was so heartbreaking to hear those words from him.

He looked straight at me before he turned his back on me and walked away. That look seemed to burn me. It was Every word he said to me was like a sharp knife which was really frightening especially when you heard it yourself, it really meant that he was hurt by what I said.

"Is it wrong to tell the truth now?" I thought.

I heard someone laughing outside just a few minutes later.
The three janitors were back.

"I think our boss has a menstruation," Tux jokingly said.

"Maybe he had an LQ with his fiancée. He’s face is crumpled and his eyebrows can’t be drawn. He can probably choke someone right now." Hots also made a guess of what’s happening to Constance.

They were just entering the office when I spoke. "Hey, you gossipers."

"These two are the only gossipers," Iwo said. "They really are. How are you? Did you clean this whole office?"

The two gossipers did not say a word about what Iwo said. After a while they sat in chairs while I continued wiping the dusty things. "I'm almost done cleaning this office. Where's next?"

"In Boss Constance's office," Tux replied. I immediately faced him and found out his face was on the desk. He probably wanted to sleep.

I looked at Hots. "Is there anything else to clean besides that?"

Hots pretended to cover his nose and mouth before speaking. "Comfort rooms."

"You clean his office, while I will clean the comfort rooms." I was not that ready to clean the comfort rooms but it's better than seeing Constance.
"Wow, you have the courage and strength of the stomach," Tux teased me.

"Shut up there and just kiss that desk," I said. I talked to the three of them as if I had known them for a long time.

"It's in our favor if you clean the comfort room but are you sure? Maybe you're not used to it?"

"I'm sure, Iwo. Don't worry because I'll get used to it too."

He shook his head with furrowed brow. "Who said I'm worried? We'll get scolded too if you don’t clean it properly."

"Yeah, you worry that you’ll get scolded if I don’t clean it properly." I wanted to punch Iwo’s nape. Supposedly, our names sounded the same, but he was very mean to me.

"Don't pay any attention to Iwo. He's the same as Boss Constance who has a menstruation today. He doesn't have a girlfriend so it's impossible for him to have an LQ. That's SSB HAHA!"

"Bruh, don't tease Iwo. You know that man has been single since birth." Hots really emphasized the last sentence and then laughed. He probably didn’t know that saying what SSB means was annoying. They were really jolly. The two teamed up to tease Iwo that’s why he gave them a sharp look.

"Where are the other janitors here?" I asked to change the topic.

"They're around," Hots replied.

"We're the ones assigned here in the area near the boss office. It's nice that you're assigned here."

"Yeah, Hots. And at least I can talk to someone. You all look kind."

"We're really nice, aren't we, Iwo?"

"Your face is nice," Iwo said to Tux. He’s still annoyed.

Tux finished slapping his face on the desk. "Don't be mad, babe. I'll buy you chocolates later HAHAHA!"
"Tsss. Pure nonsense! Let's clean up," I said. "You go in his office, while I will go to comfort rooms. Let's meet at the canteen before lunch. I don't have anyone to eat with."

"How bossy," Tux teased me. "Which canteen are you talking about? Maybe we won't meet HAHAHA!"

"Why?" I was confused.

"Why? There are more than ten canteens here. This building has 25th floor and you're on the 3rd floor now." Tux was still the one speaking.

I just scratched my head at what he said.

Oh right, I was an idiot in that part.

"And you're wrong if you think there's a canteen here on the 3rd floor," Iwo seriously said. "It's either you go up to the 4th floor or you go down to the 2nd floor. Cool, right?"

"Ah, whatever. Just call me when you're about to eat. I might get lost in this place."

"Yes, bossing! HAHAHA!"

"Your vein might come out of your neck because you laugh too much, Tux. Let's clean up. Close the door when you leave."

I left the three of them in that office and went to the first comfort room, the comfort room for women. There was exactly no one inside so I cleaned up. It wasn't dirty so I quickly finished cleaning. I did not try to enter the comfort room for men. Those three should clean it.

We reached the canteen on the 4th floor before twelve noon. They paid for my food and I was so lucky for that. They contributed just to pay for my food. My heart almost melted at what they did. The twenty-peso bills really come out of their wallet. Even though they seemed to be needing it more, they still chose to give me a free lunch because it was my first day.

When it was time to go home, I looked for Constance because I would go home with him. But I was very disappointed when his secretary told me that he had gone home. Yes, he left me. It's also my fault.

"Did you fall there on the floor? Tired?" Hots asked when they found me outside Constance's office frowning.

"Constance left me. I'll take a taxi now. That fool didn't say he’d go home alone!"

"Is that a problem? We'll send you home. Let’s go," Tux said before he offered his palm to me.

I held his hand to get up. "Let's go!"

After getting up, I just followed the three of them until we reached the parking lot. "Which taxi are we going to take?"

"What taxi? We know our boss' house so we'll walk HAHAHAHA!"
I rubbed my forehead because of what Tux said. I forgot that Constance's house was just nearby. I just followed them because they were the first to walk. I didn’t understand why but I felt comfortable with them.

"You're laughing so hard, Tux. Now I know why you have the courage to send me home."

"Of course HAHAHAHA! We can't pay for your fare because we don’t have enough money right now. We’ll get our salary tomorrow"

"It's okay, thanks. Where do you live?"

"Us?" Iwo asked.

"Oh, no. I'm probably talking to the soil."

"Near our boss' house. In the other subdivision," Hots replied.

"Other subdivision? Janitors are living in subdivision?"

“Our boss let us live there because he owns it,” Tux explained.

"Ah, okay. I can definitely go home with you all the time."

"That's probably it," Iwo said before sighing.

I felt my cellphone vibrate inside my bag so I immediately picked it up and looked at it.

Someone was calling ... Constance was calling?

"Hello? Why?" I immediately asked after I answered the call while walking. The three just ignored me.

"Where are you?" he asked from the other line. You asked but you were also asked, okay.

"Going home."

"What?! I'm still here in the office. I waited for nothing, bye!"

"But–" He ended the phone call so I wasn’t able to continue what I was going to say.

Oh, no! The dragonfly got even angrier.
