Chapter 12: The Original Body Awakens

Hoàng Hải Vân forced herself to eat for the sake of survival, but she didn’t forget to ask the two men sitting at the table with her:
"When you saved me earlier, did you see Thế Anh?"
Trần Anh Hùng responded immediately:
"We pulled both of you out of the water, but the eldest young master hasn’t woken up yet. He was seriously injured—took a heavy bullet wound."
Sitting here, Hoàng Hải Vân truly felt as if her soul was about to leave her body. She was so weak that even breathing felt difficult.
"Take me to him," she said.
After all, she was a forensic doctor, which meant she had medical knowledge. She might be able to help him.
But why was she so determined to save that man?
Perhaps… it was because, after watching his recorded memories, she couldn’t help but feel sorry for him.
Nguyễn Thế Anh lay unconscious in a luxurious, spotless room.
Hoàng Hải Vân approached and examined him.
Phi Toàn’s marksmanship was terrifying.
Even while shooting at a moving target—someone leaping out of a speeding car—he had managed to land a near-fatal shot to the chest.
Just a little closer, and it would’ve pierced the heart.
A shiver ran down her spine.
Good thing the bullet hadn’t hit her instead.
After finishing her examination, she had to admit—the medical skills of these two men were impressive.
The wound was healing well, and it looked like the bullet had already been surgically removed.
Feeling reassured, she turned to them and said, "Show me around the island."
The island was breathtaking.
Except for the areas blocked off near the water, the rest of the land was peaceful, pristine, and beautiful.
Its untouched wilderness stretched out in rugged, majestic landscapes, while the air was unbelievably fresh and pure.
If someone were to retire here, it would truly be paradise.
As she wandered, entranced by the scenery, she was suddenly jolted out of her thoughts by the sounds of combat.
Ahead of her, a group of people were engaged in fierce battle on an open field.
Seeing her confusion, Trần Anh Hùng explained:
"You’ve probably forgotten. Let me remind you—these are the strongest combat robots, personally chosen to be your bodyguards. They're training right now… to help you take revenge."
Hoàng Hải Vân frowned, surprised.
"Revenge?"
Trần Anh Hùng nodded.
"That’s right. The underworld was meant to be divided between two powerful factions—the Trần family and the Đinh family.
There was an unspoken agreement between them—to stay out of each other’s way.
But the Đinh family broke the truce.
They secretly assassinated the boss.
That’s why you trained these assassins—to take revenge.
And if I had to guess, I’d say the people who tried to kill you that night… were also from the Đinh family."
Being out in the fresh air made her feel a little less weak, but the more she learned about this tangled mess, the more her head ached.
"That’s enough for now," she sighed.
"I’m too weak to think about all this right now."

That night, Hoàng Hải Vân tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Eventually, she threw off the blanket and walked to the next room.
Her desire to return to her original body was growing stronger and stronger.
Sure, working in a morgue had been dull—but at least it was better than this.
She sat in silence, staring at her own body, which lay there as if in a deep slumber.
Her fingers trembled as she reached out to touch her own face.
The closer she was to her original form, the weaker she felt.
But what if… staying near her real body could pull her soul back in?
She leaned in, using all her strength to lift her original self and pull it into an embrace.
She held it for a long time, but nothing happened.
The only thing she felt was her own strength fading fast.
Maybe… her soul was finally leaving this boy’s body and returning to its rightful place.
But the exhaustion grew worse.
She was getting so weak that she could no longer hold her own body up.
Gently, she laid it back down.
Looking at herself, tears poured down her face.
Just then, a hand reached up and wiped away her tears.
A voice spoke softly:
"Why… am I crying?"
Hoàng Hải Vân's heart nearly stopped.
She jerked back in shock, crashing onto the floor.
But oddly enough, her strength came rushing back all at once.
This body had a speed and agility that was almost unnatural.
She could only stare as her original self pushed itself up on both hands.
The person inside her body looked directly at her and said:
"No… this isn't me.
You just look like me."
Then, the body stood up and walked over to the mirror.
It stared at its own reflection.
"What… is this?"
As if trying to confirm something, it slowly unzipped the dress and examined itself in the mirror.
"Could it be… that someone stole my body?
Or maybe… I was turned into a robot?"
It gazed at itself for a long time before murmuring:
"The face is already beautiful… but the body… is even better."
By now, Hoàng Hải Vân had heard enough.
She was sure of it—the person inside her body was Trần Ngọc Linh.
Somehow, their souls had been swapped.
She quickly stood up and yanked the dress back up, covering her own body.
"You need to respect my body," she scolded.
"Don't look at it while it's naked!"
Trần Ngọc Linh turned to face her, eyes narrowing.
"So you're saying…
We switched souls?"
He understood incredibly fast.
Even more surprising—he accepted it calmly.
Hoàng Hải Vân nodded.
"That's right.
From now on, we have to adjust to each other’s lives.
We need to set some ground rules."
Trần Ngọc Linh blinked in surprise.
"Rules?"
But within seconds, he dismissed the idea entirely.
"No need.
Do whatever you want."
