Chapter 16: A Conversation Over Lunch

As she sat in the car, Hoàng Hải Vân found herself lost in thought. She had already awakened one ability, which meant she couldn't unlock another. Turning to Trần Ngọc Linh, she said,
"We’ll have to rely on you. As long as you can open the Yin-Yang Eye and see spirits, we can finally go our separate ways."
Trần Ngọc Linh immediately responded without hesitation,
"That’s too difficult. We might as well just use the old method."
Hoàng Hải Vân frowned and asked,
"The old method?"
Trần Ngọc Linh replied casually,
"The one we used last night."
Hoàng Hải Vân clenched her teeth in anger and embarrassment. She wanted to strangle this guy. While he was in her body, he had turned her into a flirtatious woman with incredible bedroom skills. Even though she had only been lying there, she could still feel his body reaching climax after climax.
But if he enjoyed that so much… Didn’t that mean she could use it as leverage to make him do things he didn’t want to? They had only just met, but she had a feeling that he valued his promises highly.
Changing the subject, Hoàng Hải Vân asked,
"So where are we going now?"
She hadn't realized it before, but whenever she was with him, she ended up asking foolish questions, as if she was leaving her life in his hands, letting him decide everything. And he was just an 18-year-old kid. The mere thought of it made her feel humiliated.
Looking out the car window, Trần Ngọc Linh slowly said,
"You don’t get out much, do you? Since we’re in the most beautiful coastal city in the Gulf of Thailand, I’ll take you sightseeing."
Hearing that, Hoàng Hải Vân felt her mood lift. Maybe she should set everything else aside for now and just enjoy the trip.
A few minutes later, the car pulled up by the beach. Hoàng Hải Vân stepped out and followed Trần Ngọc Linh onto a yacht. As she saw the long lines of people waiting for the ferry, she couldn’t help but sigh in amazement:
"Money really is all-powerful. No need to wait for a ferry—just hop on a private yacht right away."
There was almost no one else on board. Aside from her and Trần Ngọc Linh, there were only five silent bodyguards and a boat captain.
When they arrived at the island, Hoàng Hải Vân was even more bewildered. There were barely any tourists around, making the place feel like a deserted island—despite it being peak travel season.
Seeing her confusion, Trần Ngọc Linh chuckled and said,
"I rented the entire island. I don’t want anyone else seeing us. If someone accidentally offends me, my urge to kill might flare up again."

Hearing his words, Hoàng Hải Vân didn’t object. She and Trần Ngọc Linh checked into a resort, where he had only booked a single room for both of them. But after doing everything from A to Z, there was no point in feeling shy about sharing a room. After putting away their luggage, they headed out for lunch. Earlier, when they were at the psychic’s place, he had already sent his bodyguards to buy the necessary supplies. It turned out that he had planned this trip for her from the moment they were on the plane. It was hard to believe this guy was only 18.
Hoàng Hải Vân’s mouth almost watered as she looked at the expensive seafood spread before her. The aroma filled her nose, making her swallow uncontrollably. She picked up her chopsticks and took a bite—beyond delicious. Turning to the bodyguards, she said,
"Come sit and eat with us. It’s really good."
But the bodyguards remained motionless like statues, smiling politely and shaking their heads.
Trần Ngọc Linh calmly said,
"They’re robots. They don’t need food to survive."
Only then did Hoàng Hải Vân remember that they weren’t human. From their appearance alone, it was impossible to tell they were just machines.
Trần Ngọc Linh didn’t eat much. He mostly sat there watching her, occasionally placing oysters into her bowl. It wasn’t hard to guess what he was thinking, but whatever—she was just going to enjoy the meal first. Besides, she was in Trần Ngọc Linh’s body, meaning she could eat as much as she wanted without worrying about gaining weight. If anyone’s figure was going to be ruined, it would be his, not hers. Honestly, this was probably the biggest perk of being stuck in his body.
Enjoying her food, she decided to make conversation.
"You’re only 18. Shouldn’t you be in school?"
Trần Ngọc Linh answered calmly,
"I’ve already finished university. I studied at RMIT."
Hoàng Hải Vân gaped at him, eyes wide and mouth open.
Why was the universe so unfair? Not only was he ridiculously good-looking, but he also had a genius-level intellect. But then again, she realized, he wasn’t without hardships.
She paused, then asked seriously,
"You said you wanted to avenge your father. Do you know who the killer is?"
"I have a strong suspicion, but I’m not entirely certain," he replied casually before continuing to eat.
For some reason, his indifferent attitude made Hoàng Hải Vân feel a pang of sadness. Carrying such a heavy burden at only 18—it was heartbreaking. Softening her tone, she asked,
"Has it been a long time since your father passed?"
Trần Ngọc Linh set down his chopsticks and looked at her. He wasn’t sure why she suddenly seemed to care so much, but oddly enough, it made him feel a little happy.
He nodded and said,
"It’s been three years. I was fifteen when he died."
