74| Back Waiting and Disappointed

Waking up in the morning, Axel looks so happy and excited. Blair was surprised to see him. Usually, when he wakes up in the morning, Axel's face looks bitchy and grumpy.
"What is it?" Blair was curious. "You're so weird today. You look so happy."
"Not really," later Axel, hiding his happy smile. "What are you doing today?"
"I'm meeting with Louis this afternoon to bring my outline."
Axel was ready to swear and get angry but held himself back.
"Really? When will it finish?" Axel said curtly.
"I dunno," Blair replied nonchalantly.
"My activity is only signing some documents and letters. When I'm done, let's eat together!" Axel said firmly and sharply in front of Blair.
Blair suddenly felt a chill. She rubbed her arms together and looked at Axel in surprise.
"What's wrong with you? You were smiling to yourself, and now you're suddenly angry. You really are weird."
Feeling guilty, Axel showed his smile again. Although it looks so contrived.
"It is nothing. Pregnant women should eat lots of nutritious foods. So that your baby can grow well."
Blair felt offended. "What did you say?" Blair's voice rose slightly.
Axel kept teasing Blair with his sweet words. "See you later, honey."
After Axel left, Blair became embarrassed and smiled to herself.
Later that afternoon, Blair brought her latest outline into Louis' office. She entered Louis' room and saw the man busy with work.
"Are you busy, Louis? I have come to submit my latest outline."
Not like usual. This time, Louis greeted Blair with a cold face. It was as if he was angry and didn't like Blair's presence.
"Just put your work in there, and feel free to leave."
Louis didn't even look at Blair when he said that.
"You want me to put it down and go?" Blair was astonished.
Louis did not give any answer.
Blair was surprised by Louis' attitude, which suddenly turned cold and unfriendly. Blair just stared there for a moment.
After placing the outline she had prepared on the table, Blair also felt awkward and wanted to quickly get out of there.
'Maybe Louis is in a bad mood today, or he has a lot of work on his mind,' Blair thought.
"Okay then, see you later."
Blair turned and walked out of Louis's office. Just as she was almost at the door, Louis called out to her.
"Blair!"
Blair turned around.
"I don't understand you."
"What?" Blair needed clarification.
"I'm trying to figure out what to do with you. You may go. We'll talk about that later."
Blair just nodded and left Louis' office.
After Blair left, Louis stared at the door, which had closed again, with a disappointed face.
***
Blair's business with Louis is over. As promised to Axel, she went to a restaurant that had been ordered by Axel. Blair waited there for the man to come.
Axel had just left the office and was meeting Blair at the restaurant. But someone blocked his steps.
"Clarissa?"
"Can we talk?" Clarissa looks chaotic and messy. "I need a friend. I need someone who can hear me. I'm messed up right now. I beg you, Axel. Just a moment. It won't be long."
The atmosphere in the front area of the office is quiet. There were only a few security officers and company staff there. They will also return to their respective homes.
Axel wanted to avoid attracting attention. He also gave his time to Clarissa.
The two of them sat in a cafe not far from the office. The cafe was relatively quiet, and there were few customers there.
Axel purposely chose a place where it wouldn't attract attention.
"Sorry, Axel. If I again ask for your busy and precious time."
Axel doesn't really love Clarissa. But he still respected her as a friend. They have been friends since they were in school.
"Say whatever your problem is. I will be a good listener today."
"I met Louis two days ago. And since that day, my heart feels so empty."
"You fought with him? I think your relationship is very close and good."
Clarissa took a sip of her drink. "He gave me a birthday present."
Axel groaned. "Oh, sorry. I even forgot that a few days ago, it was your birthday."
Clarissa looked sad and disappointed but shook her head and smiled at Axel.
"Louis gave me a present and said he was sorry. He said he appreciated me. He wished my life to be good."
"That's good, isn't it?" said Axel.
"Yeah, of course, that's great," Clarissa replied. "But it felt as if he wanted to say goodbye to me. I knew from the first he fell in love and chased me. He tried everything he could to get my heart. But as if now he is saying he has given up and no longer wants to try to get to me."
"Then what's wrong with that? Don't you always say you don't love him? Do you mean to make him continue to chase you? And you like that other people adore you that way?"
Clarissa looked sad. "Axel, you hurt me. Your words hurt me so much."
Axel drank his coffee. "I'm just telling the truth, Clarissa. You were so happy when Louis chased and adored you. Maybe even other men out there. But that's just your fun. You don't even return their love. Now, when they no longer adore and chase you, you feel empty. You really are a cruel woman."
"Of course, you know all that happened because of my feelings and love only for you, Axel. I always imagined I could live with you. I want to be able to cook, prepare clean clothes, and welcome you home from work."
"Stop, Clarissa. If you continue like this, you will only hurt yourself more. Release your feelings for me. Try to open your heart to others."
"Axel," Clarissa said, spoiled. "You are so cruel."
"And the last time I visited your apartment, what were you trying to do to me? Are you trying to set me up on purpose? You put something in my drink?"
"Axel?" Clarissa was surprised. "Nothing I did to you. You don't remember what happened that night? You were pretty drunk when you came. You just drank. That night, I even called a hired driver to take you home. Because I know Blair must be worried about waiting for you at home. I could have let you stay at my place that night, but I'm not that cruel."
Axel couldn't believe it. That wasn't how he remembered the last time he'd been to Clarissa's apartment. But Axel needs to remember what happened too. That night he had really messed up, and now he was doubting himself.
***
Blair was still waiting for Axel to arrive at the restaurant.
"Excuse me, can I have another glass of water?" Blair asked the waitress.
She repeatedly checked her cell phone. Axel didn't even contact her. She also didn't show up at the restaurant where they promised to have dinner together.
Blair had been waiting in the restaurant for hours. Until a waitress came closer to her.
"Sorry, Mam. We will be closing soon."
Blair let out a disappointed sigh. Axel had come when the restaurant closed. Blair could no longer wait there. She left the restaurant with hurt feelings.
When she got to the beach house, Axel wasn't there either.
Blair was really pissed off. She was starving. Blair didn't even eat dinner, just to wait for Axel to come.
The girl's tears could not be contained.
She had been holding it since she was in the restaurant. Her tears broke when she returned home and saw the house was still dark.
Blair was crying so hard, alone.
Tearful and wailing, Blair walked into the kitchen. She opened the refrigerator and took out all the food that was there.
"Why is he always like this to me? He always promised to come, but in the end, he left me alone and kept me waiting."
Blair was still wailing, but her hands were busy looking for food. She was so hungry and sad at the same time.
