Chapter 33 Anazing Mr Lord
Nathan
My bestie is excitedly dragging my tired wife. She is insisting that Amari goes with her to see her mansion. I remain outside to wait for the driver who is bringing Brother Malcom and the grandchildren. Leah is the first to run to me. She embraces me because scanning the area and shaking her head.
“So, you lied about your wealth and Amari forgave you?” she asks in disbelief. I don’t blame her, Amari is known to be strict about these things.
“My wife loves me,” I brag and she rolls her eyes at me.
“Your wife was angry with us for months for making a joke about you and she forgives you just like that? She has double standards,” she concludes while I laugh. Amari definitely has double standards when it comes to me and I am the luckiest man alive for that.
“I will tell her and let’s see who is going to win the choir competition for you,” I threaten and burst out laughing when she frantically shakes her head and starts pleading.
“No, please, Brother Lord. I take all of it back.”
She really wants to win the competition but is also really scared of my strict wife. Even Mrs Gail threatens to report her and the other grandchildren to Amari when they misbehave.
“Brother Lord, please. You know your wife. Don’t tell her,” Leah urges while I embrace the rest of my bestie’s grandchildren. I know all of them very well. They are really shocked and thrilled when I show them their new house. It’s all screams as they run inside, leaving me with Brother Malcom, who is staring at the house before us with his jaw dropped.
“You built this mansion for Linda?” he asks before rubbing his eyes and staring at it again.
“Yes. She is my bestie,”
“I know. The whole world knows,”
I can’t help but laugh before getting to what I have been wanting to talk to him about.
“I know about her late husband.”
He clenches his fists, his whole demeanour changing. He is definitely not a fan of my bestie’s late husband.
“She has agreed to give you a chance. She will stay with you and the grandchildren in that mansion,” I inform him and he looks shocked.
“Really?”
“Yes. She won’t push you away anymore and I will literally kill you with my own hands if you hurt her.”
He raised his eyebrows at me, prompting me to ask.
“What?”
“You do realise that I am the one likely to need protection from your bestie than the other way round?”
“Fine, you have a point. She can be crazy, but treat her well, okay?”
“You are a good man, Nathan,” he declares and my heart dances. This kind, humble man saying I am a good man is better than any thanks I have ever received in my life.
“No, Brother Malcom, you are. You gave me the first suit I wore to church. I learned humanity from all of you,” I tell him and he actually threatens me.
“I have a threat for you too, Wealthiest man in the country.”
“Okay?”
“Amari is not like those girls who will be throwing themselves at you.”
I smile, knowing exactly what is coming. He gave me this talk the first time we met.
“I know and I adore her for that.”
“Don’t you ever take her for granted. I will squeeze the life out of you,” he says firmly and even clenches his fists.
I raise my eyebrows. His back is hunched over and he uses a walking stick, yet he is threatening me.
“You are old, Brother Malcom.”
“I did boxing in my youth years, Son.”
I raise my arms to surrender and confess before leading him inside. “Amari is my everything. I promise to never take her for granted.”
“Good!” he beams before adding, “Slow down now, I have arthritis.”
I can’t help but laugh. He just threatened to squeeze the life out of me.
“Boxing huh?” I ask and he waves his hand dismissively.
We enter the mansion to find Leah and the rest of the children over the moon that they have their own bedrooms. Instead of checking out the house, Brother Malcom stands glued on the floor. I am worried that something might be wrong with him until I follow his line vision.
“You are gorgeous!” he declares, his eyes still glued at my bestie, who literally blushes.
“Oh, thank you, Malcom,” Mrs Gail responds and twirls around to show off her attire before embracing him.
My heart warms at how happy they both look.
“I think these two need time alone,” my wife suggests before leading me out back to our mansion.
“See you later, neighbours,” I bid my emotional bestie and her family goodbye.
“What you did for Mrs Gail and Brother Malcom is much bigger than you think. You are amazing, Mr Lord,” my wife says before yawning. I plant a kiss on her hand.
“You have not seen anything yet,” I say proudly before showing her the mansion next to Mrs Gail’s. “That’s Isaac’s. He is coming later.”
“Nathan.”
Her shaky voice melts my heart.
“This is all you, Amari. You changed me into this man. I am truly blessed to have met you,” I say before whisking her off her feet to our chambers.
“Rest. It’s bee a long day,” I instruct and chuckle when she is fast asleep in a few minutes. I plant a kiss on her forehead and head out to answer a call from my lawyer. The team has successfully filed all the legal paperwork to sue everyone I want to teach a lesson. They will never touch my wife by the time I am done with them.
I sit in the lounge and listen to Michael’s brother condemn his brother’s actions.
“Nathan was always there for Michael. We had given up on him when he got addicted to gambling. Nathan was the only person who got him out of it. Not only did he do that, but he also got Micheal the job and everything he had. My parents are very strict. That’s why they never accepted that shameless, materialistic snake who got between Nathan and Michael. We, as a family, are ashamed of everything Michael did. He was a grown man and should have known better, but that Ella was a poison that led to my brother to perish. She deserves to rot in hell!”
I can feel the anger and resentment Micheal’s brother has for Ella through the screen. His parents have tried to call but I am not ready to discuss this with them yet.
I turn off the television when the journalist reports that Ella now fears for her life because of death threats she is receiving. I wonder if that is even true. Knowing her, that might just be another stunt to get people to forget her lies and gain sympathy.
“Brother Isaac is here,” Leah walks in to inform me.
“Thanks Leah. Let Amari rest for now,” I instruct before heading outside to meet Isaac and his fiancee.
“This place is state of the art. I can’t believe you had so much money and you used that squeaky wheelchair!” he exclaims before introducing me to his fiancee.
“Nice to meet you, Brother Lord. I heard a lot about you,” Nancy says and I immediately like her. Amari said I would like her and she was right. I don’t know if it’s the hardships Isaac told me she has been through, but I feel like she is a lot like Amari in a way.
“I heard a lot about you too, Sister Smith. It is good to finally meet you. You have a good man here,” I tell her and she nods in agreement.
“I am blessed,” she declares.
“Do you want to see your new home?” I ask and they both looked at me in disbelief before Isaac responds.
“This place smells money. We are just starting out. We can’t afford any of these houses,” he explains and Nancy nods.
I take out the keys and hand them to him. “These houses are not for sale, dude. My wife needs her family and friends nearby and you are that. This is my gift to you for being there for my wife and me whenever we needed help and a shoulder to lean on.”
“You are kidding me!” Isaac exclaims in disbelief before bursting out into tears. He likes to joke and always has something witty to say. I don’t think I have ever seen him so emotional.
His parents humbly turned down the mansion I prepared for them. They felt that they served the people best when they reside within the church premises. Them turning down a million dollars worth mansion to serve the people speaks to their characters. I did not tell them this, but I will still keep a smaller house for them for when they retire one day.
“I could never afford a house like this in a million years. You did not have to this, man,” he says when he recollects himself.
“You are a good friend, Isaac. Your honesty, love and support got me here. I love you, man,” I declare and embrace him.
“Ahem!” Amari clears her throat. I did not even see her join us.
“We are still here. Your wife and his fiancee,” Amari says while Nancy giggles through her tears.
“It’s called bromance, but we still love you too.”Download Novelah App
