Koiren saw this and whistled at his 'pet' named Kayne. He knew that the pretty boy had the ability to overpower anyone in this arena but he did not know that the gap was too big for them to catch on. Thankfully, the people here are nothing but muscle heads who always think that they are the strongest. All he had to worry about now was how to carry all of their prizes.
This night will be the first night the name Fenriz will be perceived as a death sentence. Challengers flung one by one. And Kayne bathes in their blood. He's smiling so happily as he cuts open the throats of those who tried to land an attack on him. His eyes turned red with desire to see more blood.
All of the people who witnessed the horror brought by Kayne started to move backward from the cage. Inside that cage is an animal, a wild beast that will devour anyone who'll have the balls to try to tame him.
"Stop!" A fat man bellowed. His height towers up to two meters but with a plump belly, he looks nothing but a giant wrecking ball. "Swindler, take your friend and all of the winnings away. And don't come back anymore! Do you hear me?"
Koiren stood up from his sitting position and jumped a few times to test his legs. "Kayne!," he shouted. He waved his hand to let him know where he was and when he raised his thumbs up, Kayne stepped outside of the cage.
The smell of the blood hung on Kayne as he walk to Koiren. Automatically, the crowd parted to make way for him. Blood is still dripping from his dagger and clothes and every step he make is marked by the crimson liquid.
"My earrings," he said as he stood still in front of Koiren.
"Yes, pretty boy." Koiren took out the earrings and Kayne put it into his ears once more.
"Bath? You want a bath, pretty boy?"
Kayne nodded at Koiren's suggestion and the men who saw this guided them into a room where he can wash himself. Koiren also ordered for a change which the administrator readily handed.
"Those punks. Why put the son of the monster inside the cage? What should we say if the monster comes to bite us back? Morons!" Koiren heard the fat man saying between his teeth.
Kayne finished taking out the blood stains on his body but he can still smell its filthy scent. Upon seeing Koiren, his face looked grim, ready to swallow the lad whole.
"Calm. Calm your nerves. We got our goal, we can now buy that Dreamsleeper." Koiren said while raising his hand into submission.
Yet, Kayne punched him in the stomach sending him writhing in pain. "We're now even."
"Y-yah, that's g-good." Koiren said, displaying a thumbs up but on the back of his mind, he wanted to strangle Kayne for hurting his fragile body.
They collected a mountain of treasures which they immediately sold to the arena's administrator, saying that they can't take all of those with only the two of them. The owner agreed to make the brats leave as soon as possible.
The entire mess let the two of them earn more than a million gold. Afraid that his father would know what he did, Kayne asked Koiren to hold the money for a while.
"But, aren't you merchants? Do you want to start a business with this?"
"Business?" Kayne's aura turned dark as he heard Koiren mentioned the word business.
"A real business this time haha" Koiren appealed with a little laugh at the end.
"I leave that to you after we purchased the Dreamsleeper."
"Don't force yourself. You can use your share to buy your own weapon to use for the reassessment." Koiren said, waving the gold card in front of Kayne's face.
"I already have one." To prove his words, Kayne touched his earrings and from it, a pair of jambiya knives came. Its handle is ornamented with hundreds of tiny magical stones, each of different colors. And on its blade, golden runes are engraved. "Father said to use this only when I am in great danger."
Koiren praised the knives' aesthetics. If he'll make an estimate, the price of each of those could come up to a million gold at least. But the embedded stones are of no joke either which could make its price skyrocket.
Kayne sensed Koiren's rising interest in his jambiya. That's why he decided to pull it back to its earrings. "If you dare you touch it, I'll kill you."
"Come on, pretty boy. We're friends who already faced a life and death situation together. You can't be this cold to me." Koiren reasoned out, which received not even a glance from Kayne who already walked away. "Wait for me!" He even shouted when he saw their distance getting larger.
Kayne did not pay any mind at the person who made him do all those unacceptable acts he did earlier. Though they gained the money for their shared exercise, his hands are still shaking wildly from all of the blood that spilled earlier. He's only trying his best to hide his agitation in front of Koiren lest he'll be showered with mockery in no time by this snake-tongued fellow.
Satisfied with their work, Koiren waves Kayne goodbye when they reach the student's dormitory. "Are you sure you don't want me to tag along to your room?," he actually asked but Kayne denied his initiative.
"You'll create a mess," Kayne briefly said.
Once more, Kayne's golden irises flashed a hint of dejection. This did not escape Koiren's skillful perception but he did not say a thing nor tried to comfort Kayne. He already knew that if he did that, he would become the punching bag of all of Kayne's emotions and frustrations. Thus, his death day. All he could do is lift his own spirit in order to lighten up the depressing mood and wave a simple goodbye.
