Since the incident, a maid arranged by Nathaira has followed him wherever he goes. It is Nathaira who personally followed him at first but her overacting on her part made Kayne feel conscious all the time particularly on how she treats him like a toddler calling Kayne "her son" all day long.
"Young master, your next class will start in fifteen minutes. Do you have something else to do before that?"
Peony is a brown haired girl that always talks when she needs to. According to Nathaira she's specialized on long range attacks and can play as support in dire situations.
"Let's just pass the time here," he answered.
After the incident, Koiren too is nowhere to be found. Two days later, the headmaster gave him Koiren's letter stating that he'll drop out of all of his subjects and will focus on their family's business matters with the check containing Kayne's share on their small "business" before.
As expected, the headmaster pried on what they did but since it is all over, he did not mention it anymore in a condition that Kayne will report his important movements.
"Look who's indulging himself here with the money that is not even his."
Kayne threw a glance at Yna Theodore passing by on his table. Apart from that, he did not care whatever that bitch said.
Contrary to what Yna said, Kayne used all of his money to invest in a business that deals with the creation of specialized weapons. And from it, he gains 10% of the net income monthly. With his connection to both the Yothopyia Institute's headmaster and Rigel, this deal is approved and taken by the other party in no time. In other words, he has his own income generator despite doing almost nothing on the business.
"Peony."
The maid followed Kayne when he called her name and the two left Yna without a word. But the thing drove the female Regulus to set Peony's foot frozen literally with her own magic.
Kayne did not budge a bit at her taunt and let Peony break the ice on her own.
"What's with that look, Kayne Fenriz. Afraid that you'll be defeated by me?"
As an elementalist, Yna is prideful of her abilities. Only a few people could control elements like her even among the Regulus family and for years, she's been preparing to flaunt it in the huge crowd. She did not hate Kayne as much as what she shows but she'll use him as a stepping stone to her grand dreams.
"Permission to eliminate the lady, Young master," Peony asked while preparing her rifle.
The situation started to look serious when Peony prepared herself to shoot Yna at any given moment and the onlookers kept thickening. Even so, Kayne yawned at the commotion.
"Peony, let's go," he commanded his maid, who quickly withdrew her weapon.
Feeling humiliated, Yna released numerous ice lances towards Kayne, aiming for his immediate death. But instead of piercing him, the lances ricocheted and attacked its caster leaving not a trace of an attack to Kayne who continued on his march.
Automatically, the crowd dispersed and made way for Kayne.
Yna's on her knees when the magic subsides. She failed to make Kayne submit to her and her plan completely backfired. The girls who are following her left her together with the crowd and for the first time she's alone without anyone to console her. No followers to help her up. No friends to offer her a hand.
The next morning, Kayne is summoned to the Headmaster's office. There, a couple of royalties sat elegantly but their greyish silver hair says that their blood isn't royalty.
The headmaster stood up from his seat after greeting Kayne. He bowed down to guests and exited the room without telling any brief explanation to Kayne who seemed confused about what was going on.
"We will keep this short. As Rigel's child we want you to come to our annual family assembly to take his role. He started a family of his own thus he needed to secure his position. But since his whereabouts are unknown, you'll represent him. Do not worry, we know that he's alive. We, Regulus, have items we keep to know whether our family is dead or not and his piece is fine as it is."
"I may sound rude but who are you," Kayne can't help but ask.
The man sitting beside the lady who talked too much earlier cleared his throat and exhaled. "We're Rigel's parents. Your grandparents."
It's been weeks since Rigel informed them about Kayne and his resignation but due to certain circumstances, the two elder Regulus came later than what Luke said before to his son. Furthermore, Luke also tried to gather intel as much as he can before deciding how he'll deal with Kayne.
Kayne's eyes widened when we heard the word 'grandparents' and immediately asked forgiveness for his lack of knowledge regarding that.
Luke motioned him to sit opposite to them which Kayne did.
"We heard what happened yesterday with Yna," Luke started.
Kayne expects that they'll side with Yna but his grandparents' eyes say otherwise.
"She is a domain user, an elementalist type of neo and you defeated her without lifting a finger. From there, we are convinced that you are truly our blood," Luke continued with a gentle smile.
"I consider myself lucky," Kayne humbly said.
"Be confident, child. We know Rigel's capabilities and we are also expecting big from you," Luke replied.
"And here," Reene butted in. "This is the invitation." She showed a red card with golden letters and put it on the table in front of them together with a lion brooch. "Make sure to show up. Though we'll take you forcefully if you dare deny our invitation."
"I apologize, grandmother, but I have an end term reassessment here in the institute as well."
"That's already settled. We talked earlier with the headmaster and he agreed that you'll temporarily take Rigel's position," Reene stated that is seconded by her husband.
"You'll manage one of our businesses and gain field experience there. You can also come with your assistant if you're feeling a little lonely," Luke added, referring to Peony who is standing quietly behind Kayne.
"But first, you need to be present at this event. We'll also introduce you as our grandson on that day so make yourself presentable."
A moment of pause occurred in their conversation. Reene fell into a deep thought before announcing her final decision. "On second thought, we'll drag you today," she said, afraid that Stanz would do something to play a trick with them through Kayne. "Got it?"
