No one expected for that to happen.
The moon was still lonely up in the sky when Keenan's painful cry cut through the night.
Unlike the other days where he'll see his brother tinkering on magical tools, what he found inside his brother's room that night is his dead body with no trace of blood at all. He's lying on the floor completely squeezed with his limbs intact but twisted in different directions that is evident from how his skin appears just like a dried towel.
"Chad...chad," he cried, cradling the lifeless body in his arms as preciously as he could.
Minutes later, the authorities started to pour inside the room to secure the area, headed by Knox Valdis.
"Take him," he commanded and his people took Chad's corpse forcefully from Keenan.
"What are you doing? That's my brother! My brother...you hear me?" Keenan bawled at the people taking Chad away as he pushed each of them away from himself, trying to break free from their arms. "Let me go! Let me go! Chad! Chad!"
On that timing, Lucian arrived together with Kayne and
Koiren.
"Arriving late and grand, how sophisticated, Regulus."
Lucian fixed his glasses and put on the gloves offered to him by an assistant, ignoring the provocation coming from the head investigator, Knox. He even pushed him aside like a total fool that's standing in his way, fanning the burning flames on Knox's pride more.
Kayne and Koiren did the same with the gloves and entered the scene of the crime. Koiren even threw a last look to Knox that had shut his mouth on the side after Lucian's cold attitude.
"Koiren." Lucian called to him when he spotted a small glass container below the bed of the victim. He kneeled on the floor and picked up the glass, and after examining it for its contents, he placed it on Koiren's palm that was readily waiting for him to do so.
Koiren also looked at the inside of the container, squinting his eyes to peep and smelled its contents. He couldn't contain his shock and trembled for a few seconds when several white dust fell into his hand when examining it. It is scentless, white, almost transparent and fine like dust. He's sure of it, it's Duane, the drug that his family get hooked on.
He looked at Kayne that's now staring at his hands. Both of them are now trying to figure out how this case relates to the previous case they solved.
"We're done here," Lucian said and secretly slipped a piece of paper in Kayne's hand.
Immediately understanding the situation, Kayne purposefully straightened his uniform to hide the paper inside his clothes. He took off the gloves and gave it to Lucian's assistant. He was about to leave the room before the others when Knox tried to block his way on the exit and looked sternly at him.
"Hands," he said.
Kayne showed his empty hands with a straight face.
"If you're done, let us pass. And this," Lucian said and pointed at the container on Koiren's palm, "wells be taking it for investigation."
Knox smiled as he clicked his tongue and exhaled. Putting his hands inside his pocket and tapping his shoes slowly, he said: "This isn't your case, Regulus. We're the ones who need to handle it. I am only giving your dearest nephew a chance to participate as per the headmaster's request but that's the end of it. Don't put your filthy paws in here."
Lucian removed his glasses and wiped it with the soft handkerchief he always keeps in his coat. He's obviously not in the mood to talk with Knox or even give him a little care. "Move," he said when he finished cleaning off the dust in his glasses and throwing away the dirty linen on Knox's feet. "Don't make me repeat myself, Knox Valdis."
Knox snickered at Lucian before tilting his body to give way. He's looking at him with evident slyness in his eyes, born from his jealousy and huge ego.
"The world is not made for Regulus only, Lucian Regulus," he warned him.
Lucian answered this with a tiny smile on his face that hurt Knox's pride greatly. He even clicked his tongue once more as he looked again at the room they abandoned.
That said, Lucian, Kayne and Koiren left the house in a little hurry.
"I'll be leaving this matter to the two of you to settle some things with my own business."
Kayne nodded in agreement to Lucian. If the culprit is really targeting the students who traveled with him when Rigel found him, then the next things to happen will be predictable.
"Fine by me, finish all your task because you'll be travelling with me after this."
Lucian glanced at Kayne irritably when he remembered his scam request on him.
However, Koiren is still in his deep thoughts, thinking about Duane and it's main purpose.
"Koiren, you, like always, stop this rascal from doing stupid things."
