Kayne and Koiren met each other at the school grounds the following week. After obtaining the money, Koiren had to play some of his cards to purchase the Dreamsleeper from an underground auction.
They both passed their preliminary subjects and time flew by swiftly for both of the outstanding youths. Koiren's name became known for his enthralling ability and Kayne was dubbed as the monster child or sometimes as child of the monster — all referencing his relationship to Rigel. It is also quite well accepted that the two are the strongest duo of Yothopyia Institute.
But despite this enormous respect they are gathering around, they still have their small cat fight here and there regarding the most trivials things including what kind of jam is the best to go along with bread toast.
"I said that I'll have the strawberry jam. Why did you order peaches for both of us?," Kayne blurted out when he saw what Koiren put on their table.
Irritated at his loss on their bet game, Koiren ordered Peach to trigger Kayne's fury at the cafeteria. "Come on, pretty boy. It is not too late for you to try something new," he pushed on.
But Kayne ignored this and stood up from his seat to order his own food. This act just showed that Koiren is successful in his attempt of making Kayne buy his own food regardless of his withstanding loss.
Koiren clapped his hand in amusement to Kayne's temper as he watched him walk away. "Looks like I still won," he uttered.
But his little entertainment ended when a student in glasses intruded his line of sight.
"Are you Mister Koiren?," the student asked in a hurried manner.
Koiren nodded and pushed the student on the side to steal a glance at Kayne once more. More importantly, the student who approached him exudes a pungent odor, making him lose his interest to eat.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
Kayne, who saw the person trying to talk to Koiren, sent a mental message to the student.
The bespectacled student searched for the source of the voice and caught Kayne glaring daggers at him. A cold chill crawled on his spine as he felt Kayne's gaze pierce right through him. He gulped his own saliva and tried his best to raise his hand as a greeting but his knees failed him and he slumped on the ground completely.
Koiren felt the need to intervene in the situation so he asked the unknown student to look at him, baiting him with his enthralling charm. But Kayne, who did not liked how it ended, threw his food at Koiren's direction, making a mess out of Koiren's pretty face and staining his clothes.
Seeing Koiren's blazing fury, Kayne quickly left the cafeteria without a word. "I swore that I won't care if he does anything shady again or involves himself into any misfortune," he said, clicking his tongue.
In the cafeteria, Koiren remained sitting. He tried to remove the stain with a table napkin and a wet piece of cloth but the color of the jam remained on his coat. "This is your fault, ugly one." Koiren told the student who was still on his knees.
The student who recovered from the shock,messily turned around his head to search for Kayne. After confirming that Kayne isn't in the vicinity anymore he blurted out the news he's been holding for so long. "P-professor Rigel is dead!"
As soon as he heard the news, Koiren's hand flew straight to the student's face. "Do you think I care?"
"That's why I did not say it to Sir Kayne. You two are too brutal," the student said while sobbing.
"Ugly, if you want to be thanked for you should've said it to him instead." Koiren said, bumping into the poor student.
"My father is one of the knights who accompanied the professor. He said that the mist evaporated him along with the other scouts."
"Do I need to repeat myself, huh, ugly?"
Afraid that Koiren will do something more than a punch, the student ran away but before he could successfully do so, he met another calamity called Mallory.
"I heard some interesting news, do you want to share it with me?," the grinning Mallory said.
It is already a rumor that anyone who tries to associate with the petite man will surely fail their first year at the institute. He's a walking curse, they'll say.
"N-no, I am fine. Please don't talk to me."
"Bastard! I am not Koiren nor Kayne. Come on, I only want to know the situation."
Mallory, who looked like a small devil, grinned more widely as he sensed the gravity of the situation. He heard the two talking about Kayne but he never learned the reason that warranted a fist from Koiren. As a person who is fascinated with human psychology, he knew for sure that something big is happening.
But Mallory has a specific trigger known by everyone. Say it and he'll stop pestering you.
"L-little girl..."
Hearing what the student said, Mallory's fumed in anger. "Are you a moron? Do you want a fight?!"
Other students who saw the scene Mallory is creating turned their heads away to ignore the poor student. They are only praying that Mallory won't release his stress to them.
"I am asking and you called me a little girl? Got a problem with my height and face?!"
Mallory's voice rang at the whole cafeteria and no one could lift a finger at him. If Kayne Regulus seemed like a silent monster, Mallory is a berserker that will trash away anything he sees.
"If I hear you call me little girl ever again. I'll kill you. Remember this, I'll haunt you. Every single soul in here, I'll haunt all of you down to the damnedest places!," he added before making his exit.
Mallory leaving the place made the student breathe in relief once more until they heard a painful cry from the student Mallory is talking with.
Just a few seconds ago, the air was light and full of savory scents. However, this did not last long because the commotion and loud threats turned into a real scene of monstrosity.
