CHAPTER NINE

CELESTRIA POV
As we reached the familiar sight of Damien's house, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. As we approached, Damien's mother opened the door, her warm smile lighting up her face. Her eyes sparkled with kindness as she welcomed us inside.
"Welcome back, you two!" she said with genuine enthusiasm. "I hope you had a great time today."
I nodded, unable to contain my bratty attitude. "Yeah, sure. It was just okay, I guess. Nothing special."
Despite my less-than-enthusiastic response, Damien's mother remained unfazed. She motioned for us to sit down in the cozy living room, filled with family photos and cherished knick-knacks. As we settled into the comfortable couch, she joined us, her presence radiating warmth and comfort.
"Son, how are you?" she asked, her voice filled with concern. "It's a good thing that I called Celestria to accompany you. I can't bear to see you like this. I know it's hard to move on, but Celestria is here for you. She's your mate, someone who cares deeply about you."
Damien let out a sigh, his frustration evident in his voice. "Mom, I'm good. And I just wanted to be alone. I hope you didn't call Celestria. Let's not bother people anymore."
Damien's mother's smile faded slightly, replaced by a look of understanding. She reached out and gently placed a hand on Damien's shoulder. "I'm sorry, son. I just thought that having Celestria by your side would help you through this difficult time. But I understand if you need some space."
Damien's words had caught me off guard, and I couldn't help but feel disappointed. I thought I could be there for him, you know, offer my support and all. But it looks like my presence is just too much for him.
His mom let out a sigh, and it was clear from her expression that she both understood and was disappointed. "Damien, you don't have to handle everything on your own. Celestria genuinely cares about you. Let her support you."
"Mom, I can handle myself. I don't want a babysitter, and I don't want Celestria or anyone to see me in this state," Damien said, his voice filled with conviction, his cheeks turning red with shyness.
"Damien." she begins softly, her voice filled with compassion. "I know you're capable and strong, and I respect your independence. But sometimes, it's important to remember that accepting support from others doesn't make you weak. Celestria genuinely cares about you, and allowing her or someone else to be there for you doesn't mean you're incapable."
"I appreciate that, Mom." he said, his voice carrying a hint of fragility. "But sometimes, I just need some space to figure things out on my own. It doesn't mean I don't value your support or Celestria's friendship."
His mother nodded, her smile returning, albeit with a touch of sadness. "I understand, Damien. It's important for you to take the time you need. Just remember that we're here whenever you're ready to lean on us."
Ugh, there they were again, Mom and Damien, about to turn a simple conversation into a full-blown soap opera. I couldn't sit idly by and watch the melodrama unfold.
"I'm sorry too, Mrs. Johnson," I said, my voice filled with sincerity. "I didn't mean to intrude or cause any trouble. If Damien needs some time alone, I completely understand." I declared, rolling my eyes dramatically for added effect.
Damien's mother nodded, a soft smile returning to her face. "Thank you, Celestria. I appreciate your understanding. Sometimes, as parents, we just want to do whatever we can to help our children. But it's important to respect their boundaries and give them the space they need."
Damien's mother had left to fetch some food, leaving us in a tense silence. Unable to contain my frustration, I plopped down beside Damien and let out a hefty sigh.
I couldn't let Damien's words slide. The audacity of what he had said, the way he had hurt his own mother—it grated on me. Without a second thought, I positioned myself beside him, and my hand met his shoulder with a resounding smack.
"What was that for?" Damien protested, his eyes wide with surprise and maybe a touch of remorse.
"That was for the unnecessary drama you just pulled," I retorted, my frustration bubbling to the surface. "You can't talk to your mom like that. She's trying to be there for you, and you just hit her with all this attitude. 'I don't want Celestria or anyone around' line? Not cool, Damien, not cool."
"I-I didn't mean to," he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. "I was just frustrated, you know?"
I shook my head, unable to comprehend his lack of awareness. "That's no excuse, Damien. You need to think before you speak, especially to your own mother."
"Come on, you two. Food's ready," Damien mother's called from the kitchen, her voice a mix of warmth and happiness.
Reluctantly, we left our heated exchange behind and made our way to the dining area. The aroma of home-cooked goodness filled the air, momentarily diverting our attention from the lingering tension.
As we sat down to eat, Damien's mother tried to lighten the atmosphere. "So, what were you two talking about?" she asked, a twinkle of curiosity in her eyes.
I exchanged a quick glance with Damien, a silent agreement passing between us to steer the conversation away from the recent drama. "Oh, just the usual stuff," I replied with a forced casual tone, hoping to shift the focus to safer topics.
As we were busy eating our food, enjoying the warmth and comfort of Damien's home, a sudden interruption shattered the peaceful atmosphere. A man appeared out of nowhere, his presence commanding attention as he called out to Damien.
"The rogue is attacking our pack," he said urgently, his voice filled with a mix of concern and determination.
What did he mean by "rogue"? Who was this man, and what pack was he referring to? Thoughts raced through my mind, trying to make sense of the situation as chaos ensued.
Without waiting for further explanation, Damien pushed his chair back and stood, his face shows of concern and anger. "I need to go," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
His mother, visibly worried, stood up as well, her eyes pleading for reassurance. "Be careful, Damien," she urged, her maternal instincts overriding any fear she might have felt.
Soon, we arrived at the scene of the clash. Chaos reigned, as pack members fought fiercely against the rogue intruders. Damien, transformed into his wolf form, led the charge. His majestic presence and natural grace made it evident that he was born to lead and protect.
I was scared as I watched everything happening before me. It was so intense, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Adrenaline rushed through my body, making me feel alive and alert. I knew I had to find a safe place to hide, to keep myself away from the danger that was coming.
As I looked for a place to take cover, I couldn't stop myself from watching the battle. The wolves were fighting fiercely, their teeth clashing and their growls filling the air. It was both scary and amazing at the same time. I could see their raw power and instinct on display.
Amidst the chaos, I witnessed the bravery of mothers shielding their young, their fierce maternal instincts. The children huddled together, their eyes wide with a mix of fear and trust as they sought shelter from the violence.
The sounds of the fight were loud and overwhelming. The snarls and growls echoed all around, making my skin crawl. It was like a wild symphony, with each sound adding to the chaos. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, the power and strength of these creatures.
The clash of fangs, the snarls of fierce wolves, and the sound of desperate growls filled the air. With every passing moment, the battle outside intensified, fueling my fear and desperation.
In the end, victory was claimed, but not without heavy casualties. The wounded limped away, their howls of pain piercing the night. The scent of blood hung in the air, a reminder of the sacrifices made in the name of survival.
