CHAPTER 9
I’m walking on the corridors when, There’s an uproar outside. I peek to the window and saw my mother going out in the carriage while holding her head. I immediately go to the entrance to greet her.
“M..mother? what happened?”
“Uhhhhh.. I just drank too much”
I hastily run towards the kitchen. I told the chef to cooked a soup to lessen the hangover that my mother felt. I command some of the servants to escort her to the living room. And since, I’m here at the kitchen it’s probably best to eat with her, together.
She rested her head above the table. I didn’t utter a word. There’s a silence in the atmosphere. It breaks when the chef deliver our food.
My mother raised her head tiredly. She glanced towards my side and was shocked. I know she didn’t expected that I’m here too.
“Todays food is Ramekin Eggs with mushroom and spinach, egg muffins and banana- almond smoothie”
I nodded to them. It’s very appetizing when I saw the dishes. They never failed to impressed me by our meals. It’s handled professionally.
“Thank you” I smiled to the chef before he turned around to go back to the kitchen.
He was shocked at first. I know, this lady never complimented nor giving gratitude to them. And now, she’s eating the food.
The chef walks away while grinning. He didn’t expect that the Lady will thank him. He turned around to looked at the Lady who's happily eating her breakfast. It’s written all over her face that the food he made is delicious and she's enjoying it. He gained his confident back. For the very first time, he heard the lady thank him.
In the past, he rarely gets compliments when he started working to the manor. He loves cooking. Whoever, eats his dishes, he wants them to eat it happily. But, after preparing dishes from one after another, they didn’t utter a single word. So, he experiments foods and the servants there were all taste tester. He study all night long because he thought that they weren’t delicious enough. The nobles had really a difficult taste, he thought.
“How was the party, mom?”
“Uhh… it was good”
“Did you enjoy it?”
“Y..yeah, I talked all night with my friend there”
“I can see that” I chuckled.
It’s nice to have someone eating together with you. If I’m going to live this life, then I should looked at her as my mother and treated her like one. I decided to live my life to it’s fullest here because I didn’t do it in the past.
“Next time, I’ll introduced you to her”
“Well, at that time, you may add another one”
“W..what?”
“Your grandchild”
“Y..yeah. You plan to keep it?”
“Yes. Even though, it’s an accident. This may be my fate and I can’t abandoned an innocent child”
“Right, it’s not the child's fault that this happened”
“Yes, m..mother if this seems hard to accept but, I want you to treat her as your own grandson after everything that’s happened to me. Is that okay with you?”
“Yes, I can do that” She smiled sadly and added
“You are really a tough child, just like your father”
She sipped the smoothie. Now, there’s a moment of silence. In the story, only the duchess would give attention to my son.
“Mother”
“Yes?”
“Thank you”
“W.. what’s that for?” tears were forming in her eyes. She turned her head to the side and wiped the fallen tears. She clears her throat and drink her smoothie.
Chantria never got the chance to say thank you. In her execution, she wanted to say thank you to the people who was true to her and that, she felt guilty for doing evil things. But, it’s too late when she realized that.
While, it’s too early I should show my gratitude to these people and I’ll never let anyone harmed them even if it’s the two protagonist of the story.
After finishing our breakfast. Mother decided to go to her office, she wants to read the documents. I also, called scarlet over to my room. I want to discuss something to her that keeps bugging me.
“What is it, milady?”
“Scarlet, I want you to do something”
“I’ll see what I can do”
“This may be hard but, I want you to investigate my attendants especially Rina and Amelia. Focused on the two and give me your reports before we leave”
“Yes, milady”
“Don’t leave a single information slipped out”
“Yes, milady”
She bowed and immediately gone out. I know those two will aide me since, I gave difficult tasked to Scarlet, she may not present this time.
“I’m going to find the traitor”

I was reading some books in the balcony when I heard a horse neigh. It seems there’s a guest. I peek who is it. My face turned upside down seeing the guest. It’s the disgusted people clinging to our riches. The Baroness of Lynch was wearing a scandalous gown. What’s that? Is she coming here to seduced her own husband? You can get him, you know?
My mother greeted them in the entrance. I snickered when I saw their daughter looking at my way. They don’t have the rights to come here. Walker is only the lover of my mom. If they were pretending to be their relatives, then they won’t shamelessly show their faces here.
In my world, only the family of your lover would appear not, the relatives. Their job is to gossip what will happened to you not to visit like this. I saw Scarlet entering the manor so I asked her to accompany me. Sir Oliver was in the corner together with the Head Maid.
I walked down to interrupt what they were going to discussed. I saw the family sitting on the living room. The receiving room is only for the true guest or should I say the important people. After this, I’ll instruct someone to cleaned this off, we don’t want to be infected by such people.
I faked my smile when they saw me walking towards them.
“Am I disturbing everyone, here?”
“No, no. You’re just in time, we were talking about you” my mother grabbed my hands to sit beside her.
I felt her cold hands touched mine. I know my mother didn’t want them to be here but, because the duchess is a kind hearted woman. This shameless family take it to advantage.
“This is my daughter. Chantria Alena Marcox”
“Oh my? What a beautiful lady”
“Thank you! I love your gown, it suits you very well”
I emphasized telling her that it suits her very well. I know she know what I meant. I saw how her facial expression turned sour for a seconds then faking her smile. A seductress like her doesn’t deserve to step in, our household.
“My mother isn’t feeling well so, may I know what brings you here?”
“Oh no? we just want to visit one of our relatives here”
“Oh my? Are there any guest who doesn’t have anything important to say, Sir Oliver?”
“No, milady. All of them have things to discussed that were something important and in urgency”
“Like?”
“Someone wants to avail our land to turned it into business establishments”
“Are there any relatives of our employees visited here, Scarlet?”
“Yes milady, for twice a month. We allow them to gather here but, except for urgency milady”
“Oh my? Didn’t they tell you that we have appropriate time for visiting ? Is he or she a worker?”
“N..no! He’s sitting beside the duchess”
My mother was massaging her temples. I think her headache got worse. But, I won’t give up unless they will go away and never come back here again.
“I’m sorry but, I didn’t noticed you. Who are you?”
“W..well, I’m the lover of your mother”
“Really? I don’t think so”
“Yes, tell her” Walker poked my mother’s arm as if telling her to let me out. I know he didn’t expected the response of my mother, she brushed his hand at the same time shrugged her shoulders as if she didn’t know that man.
“Who are you?”
I was shocked. I thought my mother loved him so much but, I didn’t expect he would brushed him off like that.
“I..Im Walker Yatt, the lover of your mother”
“Uhmm. Well, are you sure?”
“Y..yeah?”
“Excuse me, mister err… sir? But, I don’t see you two as a couple. Perhaps, are you lying to us?”
“N..no, your grace. Tell her the truth”
My mother never response to him. It’s as if she don’t like his company anymore. Instead, she was spacing out as if she didn’t exist on that time.
“Oho? Are you still forcing yourself at my mother? Just tell me the truth, mister .. errr, sir?”
I’m confused right now. In the novel, the duchess loves him so much but, I don’t get it. Why is this happening? My mother allowed me to say such things to him. I prepared myself for her loving response instead she never utter a single word. Is the story changing?
“I’m telling the truth”
“Oho? Look at you, so desperate. Well then, can you propose to me some evidences, that you two are dating?”
He was silent. I want this to end. I want my mother free from him. Just look, how disgusting he is.
“Uhmm. Sir oliver? As our physician and one of the head in this household, have you ever seen this two date? Or have a quality time as a couple?”
“None, milady. I’ve seen the duchess locked herself in the office room working”
“Well then, head maid, have you seen it?”
“None, milady. I’ve been busy managing the household and I’ve been walking around the manor, all the time for checking. I didn’t see anything that regards to the duchess as well as Sir Walker”
I nodded to them and looked at Walker who’s gritting his teeth. I know the shameless family is furious at me. Well, I don’t care. I’ll make sure I will comeback this place peacefully. I want to settle this problem in our household for now, before I live outskirts.
“I guess that’s it. Do you have anything important to say?”
“N..no, milady”
“Well then, you are dismissed”
“You don’t have the rights to shoo us away!”
Their daughter stood up and pointed her fingers at me.
“If I were you, you should be careful who you point your fingers at”
“Y.. you!”
“An impolite child, Mind your manners, Does your parents not raised you well?"
“Milady, I’m very sorry for this troublemaker. We will go out”
“But, mom”
The Baroness grabbed his daughter's arm and goes out. I looked at the man who’s still sitting next to the duchess.
“What are you still doing here mister errr.. sir?”
“I….i”
He stood up and sighed in exasperation. She glared at me before walking out completely.
“Mother”
“Y..yeah?”
“Nothing, that’s the best I can do for now”
I stood up and go back to my room. The people left there was left in awe. They didn’t know that the Lady had a sharp tongue.
