Chapter 19

When it got further, I decided not to follow her anymore. She might be angry with me, so I turned away and took a step back towards school when I heard two gunshots. I quickly turned to where Konaide was, and I ran when I saw her fall to the ground.
"Shit! Konaide, wake up!" I exclaimed and lifted her. She was hit by a bullet on the side and arm. Since we were quite far from school, I had no choice but to rush her to the hospital. If I didn't hurry, she might die.
"Konaide, can you hear me?" I called out to her. A taxi passed by, and I immediately hailed it, grateful that they let us in.
"Drive faster!" I shouted; time seemed to move slowly after what happened. Why was she shot? Who did this to her? Maybe it's my enemies, thinking I have a connection with this girl? Damn it, they shouldn't involve innocent people. If I find out who did this, I swear I'll make them pay.
"This is the fastest I can go, Sir!" the driver replied while we were on our way. I wished the car could fly to get us to the hospital faster.
When we arrived at the hospital, I quickly carried her out of the taxi. Nurses with a stretcher greeted us. I placed Konaide on the stretcher, helping push her towards the operating room. I was left outside; they said I couldn't go in. I sat down and waited. Soon, my phone rang, and it was Clarence.
"Bro, where are you? We can't find you, and something's happening at the school. Do you know?" he asked, puzzled by my whereabouts.
"What happened?" I inquired, wondering what was going on.
"I'll explain later, bro. Just come to Headquarters!"
"Okay, I'll be there in a while; I'm at the hospital now!"
"What? Why are you there? What happened?" Clarence bombarded me with questions, clearly worried.
"I'm here because I rushed Konaide to the hospital; she got shot."
"Is Konaide pregnant?" Lay asked, and I sighed. Seriously? That's what he's thinking?
"No, she got shot earlier, so I brought her to the hospital."
"Oh, bro. We'll come there, give us the hospital address!" Clarence said.
"Sure, I'll text the address..." I replied and ended the call, texting them the hospital address.
In a few minutes, my friends arrived. They bombarded me with questions, so I just narrated what happened.
"What? You cut class?" Lay asked. "Why did I only learn about this now? What's going on with you guys? Are you a couple?" I smacked him for his nonsense questions.
"Stop your nonsense questions, Monteverde," I told him, giving him a stern look, and he just laughed it off and straightened up.
"Does Konaide's family know what happened?" Clarence asked. I didn't know her family, so I couldn't inform them.
"No."
"They need to know; wait—whose bag are you holding?" Clarence asked, and I realized I had Konaide's bag with me.
"It's Konaide's."
"Alright, check if there's a cellphone in there," Lay suggested, reminding me that she had a butler.
I searched the bag and found her phone. Luckily, it wasn't locked. I looked for a contact to call and saw only one named Butler Kin. I called him, and he answered immediately.
"Young lady, where are you? I'm worried about you," he said, and I hesitated to answer.
"Young lady, please answer me. Where are you? I'll come to get you," he continued, clearly overly concerned.
"I'm sorry, but I'm not the Young lady you're looking for—"
"What? Why are you answering? Where's the Young lady? What did you do to her? Don't hurt her; you'll face me!" he bombarded me with questions, and it was painful to listen.
"Hey, stop! I haven't done anything to your Young lady. She's here at the hospital. Someone shot her!"
"Tell me where you are! I'll come to the Young lady!"
"I'll text you the address," I said.
"Fine," I ended the call and quickly sent the hospital address. Shortly after, the doctor came out of the operating room. We stood up and asked about Konaide.
"Doc, how is she?" I inquired.
"Who are the family members?" the doctor asked.
"We're friends," Clarence answered. "How is she?"
"She's stable now; she received a blood transfusion. She just needs plenty of rest to recover her strength and heal her wounds." I sighed in relief upon hearing the doctor's words.
"That's good; thank you, doc!" Lay expressed gratitude.
"She's been transferred to a private room. Excuse me, please." The doctor excused himself.
"She's okay now," Clarence reassured me. My worry eased upon hearing the doctor's update.
"What do you think? Who could have done this to her?" Lay asked.
"I think it's one of our enemies. They probably thought you had a connection with Konaide, so instead of targeting you, they shot her to make you worry."
"Find out about it. I want to know immediately who did this," I instructed.
"I'll take care of it," Ice said, always around, pretending to sleep on the chair.
"Good."
I went to check on Konaide, glanced at her, and left. There were things I needed to take care of. They filled me in on what happened at school. These troublemakers never learn. When I find out who they are, I'll make them pay for what they did.
