Chapter 105: Stir up trouble
Along the road ahead, in a short amount of time, more houses started appearing, and the number of pedestrians increased. The dirt road underfoot gradually transformed into a path paved with broken stones, and then into a complete white stone-paved road. Angelet led two horses and quickly entered the urban area of Lennon. On the bustling street, most pedestrians wore gray and white clothes. Some plump women walked slowly with large baskets on their shoulders. On the side of the road, there were some stalls selling vegetables. The architectural style on both sides resembled medieval European architecture on Earth, with gray and white stone buildings. In front of a tavern that Angelet passed by, two drunken men were sitting, hugging a bottle of wine and shouting incomprehensible things. Angelet slowly walked along the street, leading the two horses, with weapons strapped to his back, causing people around to instinctively lower their heads to avoid him. Luckily, the street was very spacious. Angelet walked slowly forward, scanning the signs of the buildings on both sides. There were bakeries, pubs, clothing stores, spice shops, pharmacies, grocery stores, and even a bakery similar to those on Earth. This was the first time Angelet had seen such a prosperous city. Even the Maluya port was not as perfect as here. There was more chaos on the streets there, but here it was orderly, giving him a stable and tidy feeling despite the busyness. Quickly, he found his target. Looking into a small alley on the left side of the street. In a dim alley, a lone retail store stood open but empty. A middle-aged woman was directing two young men to move large wooden crates out into the opposite alley. A brass nameplate hung crookedly above the store, with a white cloth strip attached, on which was written in black ink: "Store for Sale." Angelet entered the alley and immediately smelled a faint sour odor. "Excuse me, is this store for sale? Are you the owner?" His direction also attracted the attention of the middle-aged woman, and she proactively greeted, looking at Angelet. "I am the owner of this store. Do you want to buy it?" The woman smiled and said. "Almost everything inside has been moved. If there's no problem, just give money and personal documents, sign the contract, and the store will be yours." "Personal documents?" Angelet raised an eyebrow. "I am a newcomer to the city. Where can I get personal documents to settle here?" He was not worried about money; the magic stone he carried was a strong currency anywhere. As mentioned earlier in the library documents, the purchasing power of a low-level magic stone was very high. Angelet roughly knew the exchange rate from Anne's mouth. "This is a bit troublesome..." The owner hadn't finished speaking, but her eyes immediately widened when she saw a black stone in Angelet's hand. "Of course, for a distinguished person like you, there is no problem with stabilizing life or something." "That's good." Angelet also smiled. It seemed that in normal human cities, magic stones had significant value. What he didn't expect was that here, magic stones could be divided into many small pieces for use. The owner only took a corner of a low-level magic stone to weigh, then asked Angelet for some basic information, and rushed out of the alley with a small magic stone on her face with a happy expression. Half an hour later, Angelet held a leather scroll for identity proof and a certificate of the store transfer. The owner hurriedly left with a few young men with a smile, as if she was afraid that Angelet would change his mind and hinder her. This made Angelet feel a bit deceived. According to the knight Dunleavy's point of view, personal identification documents were difficult and troublesome to obtain, and yet it was resolved so easily. This surprised Angelet about the purchasing power of magic stones. Holding two documents, Angelet entered the store, intending to close the door, and began to tidy up inside. Suddenly, there were heavy footsteps at the door. "Person inside, come out." A hoarse voice echoed. Angelet raised his head to see four shirtless men, wearing standing at the door, these men had strong bodies, holding short swords or short axes. Standing in the open area right in front of the store entrance, the smell of sweat and the smell of alcohol mixed into the store. Angelet frowned. "Who are you guys?" The man in front had a scar on his face, dark skin, and looked very fierce. He lightly patted the axe on his waist and said with a smile: "You are the new owner of this store, right?" "Yes." Angelet nodded. "Good, do you know the rules?" Angelet frowned. "What rules?" "Pay a monthly protection fee of twenty gold coins, and your store will not have to worry about any trouble." The man walked into the store, looking around inside. "Twenty gold coins? No problem." Angelet nodded. For him, the key was to first familiarize himself with the situation, establish a solid position. In a completely unfamiliar place, he didn't want to get into trouble without knowing anything. In the eyes of the man, a greedy gleam appeared. He nodded satisfactorily: "Also, as a newcomer, you need to pay a meeting fee. It's not much, just two thousand gold coins." Angelet's face darkened: "Two thousand gold coins?" "Of course! Do you want to refuse?" The man touched the axe on his side and the men behind him also grinned viciously. Some of the people behind spoke one after another. "Kid, obediently take out the gold coins, and your safety here will be guaranteed. If not..." "Well, just be obedient, and everything will be fine." "Hey, do you think hanging a sword on your side will turn you into a swordsman?" Clearly, this was a group of people here to extort money. Two thousand gold coins were a significant amount for anyone. Angelet frowned, realizing that the leader kept looking at the pouch where he kept the magic stones. Most likely, he used the magic stones for the transaction with the owner, and he saw it. Then he thought Angelet was an easy target for extortion. He glanced outside the store and saw almost no one passing by. His gaze turned back to the person in front. "I advise you to leave now. I can pretend that nothing happened." The man was stunned for a moment, then seemed to notice the sword hilt on Angelet's waist, showing signs of frequent use. His eyes became somewhat serious. However, the few people behind did not notice anything strange about him. "Kid! How dare you threaten Roddy Sword and his gang!" "Beat him to death!" "Make him kneel down and lick our boots!!" Angelet's expression remained unchanged. He suddenly stepped forward, grabbed the neck of one of the men, and threw him. With a loud noise, the man's head hit the wall next to the door, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted.
