Later that evening. Emilia is alone in her room, and she is looking at her photos from her freshmen year up until her senior year in high school. Her mind instantly travelled back to the past, specifically during her junior year at Palmridge High... *FLASHBACK* "I can't believe Monsieur And Mademoiselle Season has been moved for next week!" Emilia is inside the toilet cubicle when she heard some girls talking. "Do you think----the Student Council are cooking something up?" the other girl asked. "What do you mean? I mean, they can't change the rules of that important event! And most importantly, they can never, ever change the coronation for the Monsieur and Mademoiselle Couple of the Night! It's been Palmridge High's Annual Tradition for more than fifty years already!" the other said it all in one breath. "I'm just wishing that I will get the title this year. We've been hoping to win the title for the passed two years, and I think I won't take it anymore if I won't win this year!" the third girl stated, with a hint of desperation in her voice. "Then we should do a better job this year. Do you think I should go for a facial lift and non-evasive nose lift? What do you think, girls?" "That's not a bad idea at all!" "Yeah, you should totally go for it!" Emilia rolled her eyes heavenward after listening to the girl's conversation. These girls are so addicted on getting the title and being popular girls at school, and they are willing to go the lengths of changing their faces. What she only knows about the Monsieur and Mademoiselle Season is it's an evening school event where the the school will announce one boy and one girl who will get the title based on the student's votes. And once you become the chosen ones, your popularity will surely skyrocket... However, it's just purely for vanity and show, and she is not really keen on it. It doesn't make sense at all! So that's why she can't understand why everyone's going crazy for the said event... ================================ At the school library. Emilia groaned inwardly while standing inside the library which is crowded with people. She is very much aware that the library is a place for gossip for other students, instead of reading books and studying. All of the good seats have already been taken, so Emilia ended up sitting at the far corner of the library. And just like what she usually do, she puts out her notebook and her book and started studying for their upcoming Science quiz. "Hi, there! Can I share a table with you?" she heard someone asking her. Emilia looks up, and she immediately saw Chelsea Diver, a senior student who're really famous at their school. She is famous for being the youngest Mademoiselle titleholder, where she won when she was still a freshman student. "Of course! Please take a seat." Emilia smilingly offered. "Thanks! I just need to do some last-minute changes on my thesis." Chelsea relayed. The two girls started getting busy doing their own thing, but they suddenly got distracted when they heard some students, especially the girls, excitedly murmuring. Emilia and Chelsea saw a member of their school's Student Council putting up a large poster at the library's bulletin board, and it was the full details of the upcoming Monsieur and Mademoiselle Event Party... "I really don't understand what's the significance of Monsieur and Mademoiselle Event... What's so special about it?" Emilia wondered aloud, while looking a bit irritated. "Well, based on my experience, being a titleholder can have its positive and negative points. The good points are, it can bring you to the higher level in the school society, it can make you really famous, and everyone will love you. The bad points are, the title can really get into your head. In addition to that, you don't know who your real friends are, and last but not the list, you can't be a titleholder forever." Chelsea explained everything. "Based on what you said, it seems like the title can bring you more heartache than happiness." commented Emilia. "I can agree with you on that. But if you don't let the title control your head and heart, then you won't have any problems. But unfortunately, some of the girls can't really do that." Chelsea further explains. "I think there are some girls nowadays who are shallow because of popularity and because of beauty standards. We all have to be aware that beauty fades as time goes by, and the brains, good personality and character lasts for a lifetime." Emilia enunciated. "I can totally understand what you're trying to point out, girl. But let's try to put ourselves in the shoes of a shallow girl. What if being beautiful and popular makes her really happy would you do or say something to stop herself from being so vain and shallow eventhough she's not hurting other people?' Chelsea gave Emilia a challenging question. "I've got to admit it. You've proven your point, Chelsea." Emilia nodded in agreement. "But how about you? Are you open to the idea of being a Mademoiselle?" Chelsea gave her another intriguing question. "Maybe yes, maybe no. It depends on the situation. If I can use my title to bring awareness about self-love and accepting who you are, then I'd be willing to carry the title. But if it will only bring be complications in my already-normal life... Thanks but no thanks." pronounced Emilia. "Just that close your door, girl. Maybe you'll get the title this year or next year. Who knows? Nobody knows what's really going to happen in the future." Chelsea casually relayed. "Hmm... Let's see about that." Emilia said in return. After that conversation, the girls went back on studying. After one hour, Chelsea was finally finished with her thesis revision. "I want us to be friends, Emilia. Let's exchange numbers shall we?" she suggested. "Sure, why not?" Emilia agrees rightaway. The girls started exchanging their numbers, and it was the start of their friendship.
