Sadie POV It was another tiring day for me. while i was busy checking my patients, my friend Abby called me. "Sadie!" i turned to look at her. "yes?" i said. "here, someone wants to give this to you" she said. "who?" i asked but she just smiled at me. "secret, byeee I still have duty." she said and left. eh? i looked at the paperbag i'm holding and sighs. "who would it be?" i whispered. I set aside my thoughts and continue working. i'll just think about it later. While I was on duty my phone suddenly rang, i immediately grab it and answer the phone call. it was mom. [hello sweetie, how are you? are you eating on time?, how's your new work in there?] "hello mom, I'm still on duty and yes i'm fine you don't need to worry about me, you? "Hey Ms?" i looked at the person who just called me. "yes?" "do you know where Mr. Harissons office is?" she asked. "oh, just follow this hallway then turn left before you reach the end" i said "is that so? alright, thankyou" she said and left. i just shrugged and continue doing my work. Avia is my last patient for today, she is suffering from Leukemia. I took a deep breath as I approached Avia's room, knowing that this visit wouldn't be an easy one. According to her records, Avia is a young girl battling leukemia, she had been in and out of the hospital for months now. Every time she was admitted, I couldn't help but feel a mix of admiration for her resilience and heartache for the struggles she endured. As I entered the room, the soft glow of the evening sun filtered through the window, casting a warm light on Avia's frail figure lying in the hospital bed. Despite her illness, she always managed to greet me with a gentle smile that tugged at my heartstrings. "Hi, Sadie," she said in a soft voice, her eyes brightening as she saw me. "It's nice to see you again." "Hi, Avia," I replied, trying to match her cheerful tone. "How are you feeling today?" Her smile wavered slightly, and she sighed. "I'm okay, I guess. Just a little tired." I approached her bedside, sitting down in the chair beside her. "I can imagine how exhausting it must be. But you're so strong, Avia, and you're not alone in this fight." She nodded, her eyes briefly welling up with tears before she blinked them away. "I know, Sadie. The nurses and doctors here are amazing. And my family has been so supportive too." I reached out and gently squeezed her hand, trying to convey the comfort and support I felt for her. "You're surrounded by people who care about you, Avia. And we're all here to help you get through this." She nodded again, mustering a smile. "Thank you, Sadie. I don't know what I'd do without all of you." As we talked, I could sense the weight of her battle, not just physically but emotionally as well. It was difficult for someone so young to face such a daunting illness, but Avia's courage never ceased to amaze me. "Do you want to talk about anything in particular, Avia?" I asked gently, knowing that sometimes patients needed to express their fears and worries. She hesitated for a moment, then looked at me with a mix of vulnerability and determination. "I'm scared, Sadie. What if the treatments don't work? What if I never get better?" Tears welled up in my own eyes as I tried to find the right words. "It's okay to be scared, Avia. But you have to remember that you're doing everything you can to fight this. And we won't stop fighting alongside you." Avia nodded, wiping away a tear. "I know, but sometimes it just feels so overwhelming."I leaned in closer, wanting to offer her as much comfort as I could. "You're not alone, Avia. We're here for you, and we'll support you every step of the way. And I believe in you. You're stronger than you know." She smiled through her tears, and for a moment, I saw a glimmer of hope in her eyes. "Thank you, Sadie. I really needed to hear that." "Do you know why did i pursue to be a nurse even if i wanted to be an engineer?" she looked at me and asked "why? you should chase your dreams if that's what make you happy" i smiled at her "well yeah. maybe your right but it's because of my grandfather, when i was in my high school days. I always get sick, and he's always there to take care of me, cause my parents are not there to do that for me. then i was on my home that time when i receive a call from my brother he said that they rushed lolo to the hospital because of heart attack and guess what? he didn't survive, it was dead on arrival. I was so mad at myself that time, i was blaming myself that "why didn't you even notice that he has a heart failure" like that like he always take good care of me but what did i do? i didn't even know that he was sick" i smiled at her "that's when i promise to myself that I'm gonna be the one taking good care of others." i said "your grandfather is very happy for you, and please don't blame yourself you don't know that he was sick" she comforted me and i'm thankful for that. "i already learned my lesson that's why you should also be brave okay? we're going to do our best to make you feel better" i smiled and hugged her, she hugged me back. "thank you Sadie" she whispered "Thank you Avia" i replied. As I prepared to leave her room, I promised to check on her again soon. The weight of Avia's battle stayed with me, reminding me of the incredible strength and courage of my patients. As a nurse, I couldn't cure every illness, but I could be there to provide comfort, care, and a listening ear to those who needed it most. And for Avia, I vowed to be a constant source of support and encouragement in her fight against leukemia.
