Dr. Harrison POV I was now in my office when my secretary called me. "hello?" i answered [hello doc, sorry for disturbing you at this moment but can i request for a 2 weeks leave? my mom died and i needed to go back home, i was in a hurry this morning, that's why i didn't have the chance to talk you about this in person] "oh.. is that so? it's alright. condolence to your family Janet" [Thankyou doc, and uhh how about your secretary?] "don't worry about it, i'll just request someone to be my secretary for the meantime" [okay doc, thank you so much] "it's alright" after that i call i put my phone down. "where on earth i could fine one?" i whisper to myself. I sat at my desk, taking a moment to rest in the midst of a hectic day. The soft hum of the hospital outside my office provided a soothing backdrop, and I closed my eyes, trying to recharge for a few minutes. But my peaceful moment was interrupted by the creaking sound of the office door opening. I opened my eyes to see Sadie standing there, a bright smile on her face, holding a paper bag in her hand. Surprise and joy washed over me as I hadn't expected her to drop by during my work hours. "Sadie! What a pleasant surprise," I exclaimed, rising from my chair to greet her. "I thought you might be too busy to grab lunch, so I brought something for you," she said with her trademark grin, holding out the paper bag toward me. "That's incredibly thoughtful of you," I replied, touched by her gesture. "Thank you so much."As I reached for the bag, the unexpected happened – Sadie stumbled, losing her balance. Instinctively, I reached out and caught her, preventing her from falling completely. She ended up landing right in front of me, and I couldn't help but chuckle at the situation. "Well, well, it seems you couldn't wait to be in my arms again, huh?" I teased playfully, my cheeks turning slightly red as I tried to lighten the moment. Sadie's eyes widened in surprise, and then she burst into laughter, her melodious voice filling the room. "Oh, don't flatter yourself, Dr. Harrison. It was just a little trip." I grinned, enjoying the lighthearted banter between us. "Sure, sure, just a little trip. But you know I'm always here to catch you if you fall." She playfully rolled her eyes, and we both laughed together, the years of separation melting away in that simple moment of connection. After the laughter subsided, I opened the paper bag to see what she had brought for me. It was a delicious-looking sandwich and some fresh fruit. "Mmm, this looks amazing! You always know my favorite," I said, genuinely touched by her thoughtfulness. "It's the least I could do for my childhood best friend who grew up to be a lifesaving doctor," she replied, her eyes shimmering with pride. As Sadie and I sat together during our lunch break, I couldn't help but feel a little preoccupied. She was always perceptive, and it didn't take her long to notice that something was bothering me. "Hey, Doc, you seem a bit off today. Is everything alright?" she asked, her warm eyes full of concern. I hesitated for a moment before deciding to share my current predicament. "Well, my regular secretary had to leave abruptly. Her mother's gonr, and she needed to be with her family. I need to find a temporary replacement for the next two weeks, but it's proving to be quite challenging." Sadie leaned in, her curiosity piqued. "Why is it so difficult to find someone for just two weeks?" I sighed, explaining the situation. "It's not easy to get someone who's qualified and willing to commit to such a short-term arrangement. Training a new secretary takes time, and I need someone who can hit the ground running." As I spoke, an idea popped into my head. Sadie was always organized, efficient, and had an excellent attention to detail. She would make a fantastic secretary, but I hesitated to suggest it. Before I could second-guess myself, the words tumbled out, "Actually, Sadie, I have a crazy idea. Would you be interested in being my temporary secretary for the next two weeks?" Sadie's eyes widened in surprise, and a mixture of emotions played across her face. "Me? A secretary? Samuel, I don't know if I'm cut out for that kind of work." I smiled, trying to convince her. "Trust me, you'd be amazing. You have all the qualities I need, and I know I can count on you. Plus, it's only for a short while, and it'll help me out immensely. Please consider it." She seemed flattered but still unsure. "I don't know, Samuel. It's a big responsibility, and I've never done anything like this before." I stopped a bit... Samuel? that's the first time i heard my name again, after a couple of years, and i hate if someone is calling me by that name. I sigh and keep on teasing her. Teasingly, I leaned in and said, "Come on, Sadie, it's just two weeks. How hard could it be? Plus, you'll get to see how the great Dr. Harrison works up close. Who knows, you might even fall for me during that time!" I winked playfully, trying to lighten the mood. Sadie laughed, shaking her head at my antics. "Oh, please, Samuel. Don't flatter yourself too much." I chuckled, genuinely hoping she would agree. "Seriously, Sadie, I could really use your help. And who knows, it might be a fun and unique experience for both of us." She seemed to be considering it, and after a moment, she smiled. "Alright, fine, but only because I know you're desperate, and I'm your good friend. But you owe me one, okay?"I grinned, relieved and grateful. "Deal! Thank you, Sadie. You're a lifesaver." And so, over the first weeks, Sadie became my temporary secretary. It turned out to be an adventure filled with laughs, late nights, and some occasional teasing. As we worked side by side, our friendship grew even stronger. I was impressed by her efficiency and dedication, and she handled the responsibilities with grace and skill. Though the idea of Sadie falling for me was just playful banter, our time together during those first week became a treasured memory, deepening our bond in unexpected ways. In that moment, I realized just how much I had missed Sadie in my life. Her presence brought a sense of comfort and familiarity that I hadn't realized I needed. She was the missing piece of my childhood that had returned to complete the puzzle.
