Chapter 10

Sadie POV
As I continued my work in the hospital, my focus was solely on the tasks at hand. It had been a hectic day, and I barely noticed that it was already lunchtime. Lost in my duties, I suddenly felt a gentle bump, and before I could apologize, a voice spoke, "Hey, you alright?"
It was Dr. Harrison
"yeah i'm fine, im sorry" i smiled
"it's alright, no harm was done. and uh.. your still working? it's already lunch time Sadie, you should also take care of yourself." he said
I looked at the wall clock and yeah it was already lunch time.
"ohh.. right, i didn't notice the time doc"  i said
"how about.. we go to the cafeteria together? i was on my way there though" he asked.
My initial response was to decline, as I still had so much work to do, but his friendly demeanor and concern made me reconsider. So, I decided to take a much-needed break and join him for lunch.
As we walked to the cafeteria, we engaged in light conversation. He asked about my work and how I was finding everything at the hospital. It was nice to have someone to talk to, especially amidst the busy day. As we sat down with our trays, I finally had a moment to truly look at him. There was something oddly familiar about his face, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I wondered if we had crossed paths before or if he resembled someone I knew. Despite the curiosity nagging at me, I didn't want to pry into his personal life.
As we continued chatting, the conversation took a turn towards childhood memories. He spoke about growing up in a different town, and that's when he mentioned the name of his childhood best friend—Sadie. My heart skipped a beat, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement and wonder if it was the same Sadie he was referring to.
"Sadie?" I asked, trying to sound casual.
"yes" he answered
"your name is Samuel Haden Harrison, right doc?" i asked and he nod
"yeah? why?" he asked
"I used to know a Samuel back in my hometown. We were the best of friends." i said
Dr. Harrison looked at me, his eyes widening with surprise. "Wait, could it be...?" He trailed off for a moment, and then a smile slowly spread across his face. "Sadie, it's really you?"
The realization hit me like a wave crashing onto the shore. This was my childhood best friend, the one I had lost touch with after his family moved away. I couldn't believe fate had brought us back together like this.
My heart swelled with joy, and we spent the rest of our lunch catching up on years of missed memories. We laughed, reminiscing about the adventures we had as kids, and shared the highs and lows of our lives since then. It was as if time had folded in on itself, and we were once again those carefree children, sitting under the oak tree and dreaming big dreams.
We were both amazed by the serendipity of our reunion, and from that day on, our connection only grew stronger. We made a point of spending time together whenever we could, sharing lunches, talking about life, and rekindling the friendship that had been dormant for far too long.
As the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, Dr. Harrison and I became inseparable once again. The hospital, once a place of demanding responsibilities, now became a space where we found solace in each other's presence.
Our friendship brought a newfound sense of joy and fulfillment to both of our lives. It was a reminder of the power of chance encounters and the beauty of rekindling old connections. As we navigated the complexities of our present lives, I was grateful to have him back in my life, my childhood best friend, now grown and still as dear to me as ever.
Dr. Harrison POV
I was glad that she still remembered her childhood bestfriend.
It was friday today and i thought i could finally have some time with Sadie; i was planning to take her on a trip but i guess change of plans? the hospital needs me.
As I stepped into the hospital, I could feel the familiar buzz of urgency and chaos in the air. The emergency department was filled with patients, rushed in due to a food poisoning outbreak in the city. It was another one of those hectic days, where the hallways echoed with the sounds of medical staff scurrying to attend to those in need.
I quickly put on my white coat, my mind shifting into the focused mode required for such situations. As a doctor, it was my duty to provide care and comfort to those suffering. The sheer number of patients was overwhelming, but there was no time to dwell on that. I had to act swiftly and efficiently.
As I navigated through the crowd, I couldn't help but notice the worried expressions on people's faces. Some were holding their stomachs in pain, while others looked pale and weak. I understood the fear and uncertainty that gripped them, having been in such situations before. But I had to be a pillar of strength for both my patients and my colleagues.
Amidst the flurry of activity, I caught glimpses of my fellow doctors and nurses, working tirelessly to triage and treat the patients. The atmosphere was tense, but there was an unspoken sense of unity among us—a shared determination to tackle this crisis together.
As I examined each patient, my heart went out to them. I could see the discomfort and distress etched on their faces. It was heartbreaking to witness the toll that food poisoning had taken on so many lives, and I felt a deep sense of responsibility to do everything in my power to help.
Hours turned into a blur as we worked non-stop, administering medications, IV fluids, and providing the necessary care. My adrenaline surged with each new patient that came in, and I pushed aside any feelings of exhaustion. There was no time for self-pity; the patients needed me.
Amidst the rush, I encountered a few patients whose conditions were severe, and they required immediate attention. Every second counted, and the pressure to act swiftly weighed heavily on my shoulders. But I reminded myself that this was why I became a doctor—to make a difference in people's lives, especially during moments of crisis.
Despite the chaos, I tried to maintain a calm and reassuring demeanor when talking to my patients. I knew that they needed more than just medical treatment; they needed empathy and understanding. I assured them that we were doing everything we could and that they were in safe hands.
As the day wore on, the number of incoming patients began to taper off, and the situation gradually came under control. The collective efforts of the hospital staff had made a significant impact, and I felt a sense of relief wash over me.
As I finally had a moment to catch my breath, I reflected on the day's events. It was yet another reminder of the unpredictable nature of my profession. No matter how well-prepared we might be, emergencies could strike at any moment, and we had to be ready to respond with all our expertise and compassion.
Exhausted but fulfilled, I knew that despite the challenges, being a doctor was my calling. I found purpose in helping others during their most vulnerable moments, and that was what kept me going, even on the most hectic of days in the hospital.
