Chapter 28

Dr. Harrison POV
While in Italy for the surgical seminar, I found myself surrounded by talented and ambitious surgeons from around the world. Among them was Dr. Kim Matthews, a skilled and charismatic surgeon who seemed to have a magnetic personality.
As the days of the seminar went by, Kim and I interacted more frequently during the lectures and workshops. Her confidence and wit were undeniable, and it was clear that she was drawn to me. At first, I appreciated the camaraderie and the chance to connect with another surgeon who shared my passion for medicine.
However, as our interactions continued, I couldn't help but notice that Kim's friendliness was evolving into something more. She started complimenting me frequently, finding ways to be near me during breaks, and making suggestive jokes that seemed to toe the line between playful banter and flirtation.
I remained polite but also cautious, knowing that my heart already belonged to Sadie. As much as I admired Kim's skills as a surgeon, my heart remained steadfast in its love for the woman waiting for me back home.
One evening, after a particularly intense day of lectures, Kim invited me to join her for dinner. I hesitated, not wanting to give her the wrong impression, but I also didn't want to be rude.
"Thank you for the offer, Kim," I said, trying to find the right words. "But I have some plans tonight. Maybe another time?"
She smiled, her eyes glinting with determination. "Sure, Harrison. Just let me know when you're free. I'd love to get to know you better."
I thanked her again, trying to keep the conversation light and friendly. As I excused myself, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered within me.
Back in my hotel room, I couldn't help but think about Sadie. I missed her deeply, and every moment spent with Kim only highlighted the love and connection I had with Sadie. I knew I had to be careful not to lead Kim on, as my heart belonged to someone else.
The next day, Kim continued her friendly advances, which I politely deflected. Despite my efforts to maintain a professional distance, I could see that she was becoming more persistent in her pursuit. It put me in an uncomfortable position, one that I had never encountered before.
As the seminar progressed, I decided it was time to have an honest conversation with Kim. I found a moment when we were both alone during a coffee break.
"Kim, I need to talk to you," I said, taking a deep breath. "I appreciate your friendship and the time we've spent together, but I want to be clear that I'm in a committed relationship with someone back home."
She looked momentarily taken aback, but her expression quickly softened. "I see," she said, a hint of disappointment in her voice. "I apologize if I gave you the wrong impression. I didn't mean to overstep any boundaries."
"It's okay," I replied, wanting to be compassionate. "I understand that we're here to learn and connect with colleagues, but my heart is with Sadie."
"I understand," she said, offering a small smile. "Thank you for being honest with me. I don't want to cause any problems for you."
We continued to chat amicably after that, but the dynamics between us shifted. While we remained friendly, the flirting and suggestive remarks dissipated, and we focused on discussing surgical techniques and sharing our experiences in medicine.
As the seminar drew to a close, I was eager to return to Sadie. The experience with Kim had been a reminder of the strength of our love and the value of open communication in a relationship. I couldn't wait to see Sadie again, to hold her in my arms, and to assure her of my unwavering love.
I was on the hotel, resting when my phone rang.
it was my girl, Sadie.
"HI loveee! i missed you!"
A surge of happiness washed over me as I heard Sadie's voice on the other end of the line. Her cheerful greeting filled my heart with warmth, and I couldn't help but smile.
"Hi loveee! I missed you too," I replied, my voice tinged with excitement. "How's everything back home?"
"Everything's good," Sadie said. "Work has been busy, but I've been counting down the days until you come back."
"I can't wait to be back with you," I said, my heart swelling with love for her. "This seminar has been enlightening, but being away from you has been the hardest part."
"I know, but it'll be worth it," Sadie reassured me. "You're growing as a surgeon, and I'm so proud of you."
"Thank you, Sadie," I said, feeling a mix of gratitude and admiration for her unwavering support. "You're my rock, and I couldn't have done it without you."
"I'm always here for you, Harrison," Sadie said, her voice soft and reassuring. "I can't wait to hear all about your experiences when you get back."
"I'll have so much to tell you," I replied, my excitement growing. "But for now, I just want to hear your voice and know that you're doing well."
We continued talking, catching up on each other's days and sharing little details that made us feel closer despite the distance. The sound of her laughter brought a smile to my face, and I felt a sense of comfort knowing that no matter where I was, she was always with me in spirit.
As we neared the end of our conversation, I couldn't help but express my love for her once more. "Sadie, I love you so much," I said, my voice filled with sincerity.
"I love you too, Harrison," Sadie replied, her affectionate tone melting my heart. "Can't wait to have you back in my arms."
"Me too, love," I said, already yearning for the moment we would be reunited.
With our love and connection reaffirmed, I knew that the time apart had only strengthened our bond. The love we shared transcended any distance, and I was more certain than ever that our love story was meant to be forever entwined, bound by the unbreakable thread of a love that knew no bounds.
Sadie POV
As the days passed and Harrison was away for his seminar in Italy, I threw myself into my work at the hospital, determined to stay busy and focused. My patients needed me, and it was a good distraction from missing him.
One day, as I was making my rounds, I noticed that Dr. Carson, one of the senior surgeons, had been seeking opportunities to interact with me more often. At first, I thought it was just a friendly gesture, but as time went on, I began to sense that his intentions might be more than just professional.
During a staff meeting, Dr. Carson sat next to me and made an effort to engage me in conversation. He complimented my skills as a doctor and told me how impressed he was with my dedication to my patients.
"Thanks, Dr. Carson," I replied, trying to keep the conversation casual. "I'm just doing my best to provide the best care for my patients."
He leaned in a little closer, and I felt a slight discomfort. "You know, Sadie, I've always admired your passion and commitment," he said, his tone becoming more personal.
I tried to steer the conversation back to work topics, but Dr. Carson seemed persistent in trying to get closer to me. He would find reasons to linger in the hallway when I passed by or make an effort to join me during coffee breaks.
As the days went on, I started to feel uneasy around Dr. Carson. While I appreciated the professional admiration, I could sense that his interest was becoming more personal, and it made me uncomfortable.
One evening, after a long day at the hospital, I received a message from Dr. Carson, asking if I wanted to join him for dinner.
"I'm sorry, Dr. Carson, but I already have plans," I replied, hoping to politely decline the invitation.
He persisted, "Come on, Sadie. It's just dinner. I'd love to get to know you better outside of work."
I took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "I appreciate the offer, but I'm in a committed relationship," I said, hoping that would make things clear.
He seemed unfazed by my response. "I see," he said, a hint of disappointment in his voice. "Well, if you change your mind, you know where to find me."
The encounter left me feeling uneasy and unsure of how to handle the situation. I confided in some of my colleagues, who advised me to set clear boundaries with Dr. Carson and maintain a professional distance.
From that point on, I made sure to be more assertive in my interactions with him, keeping the conversations strictly professional and avoiding any one-on-one situations outside of work.
As the weeks passed, I focused on my patients and my work, finding solace in the knowledge that Harrison would be returning soon. The love and trust we shared gave me strength, and I knew that our bond was unshakable.
