Chapter 27

Dr. Harrison POV
It was Sunday today and i was planning to introduce Sadie to my parents too.
As I brought Sadie to my parents' grave, a mix of emotions swirled within me. It had been years since they had passed away, but their presence still lingered in my heart. I wanted to introduce Sadie to them, to share the love I had found with the two people who had shaped me into the man I had become.
We stood together in the peaceful cemetery, the sunlight filtering through the leaves of the trees above. I took a deep breath, feeling Sadie's hand in mine, providing me with the strength I needed.
"Sadie," I began, my voice gentle, "I want to introduce you to my parents, John and Laura. They were incredible people, and they would have loved to meet you."
Sadie squeezed my hand, her eyes filled with empathy and understanding. "I would have loved to meet them too," she said softly.
I led Sadie to the gravestones, their names etched in stone, a poignant reminder of their lives. I knelt down, placing a bouquet of fresh flowers at each grave, a symbol of the love and respect I still held for them.
"Hi, Mom, Dad," I said, my voice tinged with emotion. "I hope you can feel the love that's in my heart right now. This is Sadie, the woman I love with all my heart. She's brought so much joy and happiness into my life, and I wanted to share her with you."
Sadie knelt down beside me, offering her own words of introduction. "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison. It's an honor to be here and to know the incredible son you raised. Samuel means the world to me, and I promise to cherish and love him for the rest of my life."
I could feel tears welling up in my eyes as I listened to Sadie's heartfelt words. In that moment, it felt like a beautiful bridge had been formed, connecting my past with my present and future.
"We're building a life together," I continued, my voice shaking with emotion. "And I know that if you were here, you would love her as much as I do."
As we sat together by their graves, I shared stories about my parents, recalling the love they had for each other and their unwavering support for their family. Sadie listened intently, holding my hand, and offering her own comforting words when needed.
In that sacred moment, I felt a sense of closure and peace. I knew that my parents would have welcomed Sadie with open arms, embracing her as part of our family. And although they weren't physically present, I felt their love and guidance in the love that Sadie and I shared.
As we stood up to leave, I looked back at their gravestones with a mixture of gratitude and sadness. I knew that my parents' legacy would always be a part of me, guiding me in the choices I made and the love I gave.
"I love you, Mom, Dad," I whispered softly, feeling a sense of comfort in knowing that they were still with me in spirit.
Sadie hugged me tightly, offering her own support and love. "They would be so proud of the person you've become," she said, her voice filled with warmth.
With Sadie by my side, I knew that my parents' love would continue to live on in the love we shared. As we walked away from the cemetery, hand in hand, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the love that had brought us together and for the beautiful journey of life that lay ahead, forever entwined in the love that bound our hearts together.
As we made our way home after our visit to the cemetery, my phone suddenly rang, breaking the peaceful silence. I glanced at the screen and saw that it was the head of the hospital calling. I answered the call, wondering what could be so urgent.
"Hello, this is Dr. Harrison," I said.
"Dr. Harrison, we have an important opportunity for you," the head of the hospital said. "There's a one-year surgical seminar in Italy, and we would like to send you and a few other surgeons to represent our hospital."
My heart skipped a beat as I processed the information. A one-year seminar in Italy? It was a chance of a lifetime, a unique opportunity to enhance my surgical skills and learn from some of the best in the field.
"I... I'm honored," I stammered, exchanging a glance with Sadie, who looked both surprised and concerned. "But what about my patients and responsibilities here at the hospital?"
"We understand that this is a significant commitment," the head of the hospital replied. "We have discussed the matter with the other surgeons, and arrangements will be made to ensure proper coverage for your patients during your absence."
I took a deep breath, weighing the pros and cons in my mind. It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to grow professionally, but it would also mean being away from Sadie and the life we had built together.
"May I have some time to think about it?" I asked, wanting to discuss the decision with Sadie before making any commitments.
"Of course," the head of the hospital said. "Take your time, but please let us know your decision as soon as possible, as we need to make the necessary arrangements."
After ending the call, I turned to Sadie, who was looking at me with a mixture of concern and understanding. "It's a tremendous opportunity, Harrison," she said. "I know how much you value your career and the chance to learn and grow as a surgeon."
I nodded, feeling torn between my professional aspirations and my love for Sadie. "But it also means being away from you for a year," I replied. "And that's something I'm not sure I can bear."
Sadie reached for my hand, squeezing it gently. "I love you, Harrison, and I want you to follow your dreams," she said. "We've faced challenges before, and we've always come out stronger. If this is what you truly want, I'll support you every step of the way."
Her words filled my heart with warmth and reassurance. It was true; we had faced challenges in the past, and our love had always been the anchor that kept us together.
"But what about us? What about our future together?" I asked, my voice tinged with worry.
Sadie smiled, her eyes filled with love. "Our love is strong, Harrison, and distance won't change that," she said. "We'll find ways to stay connected, to support each other, and to make our relationship even stronger."
Her words lifted a weight off my shoulders, and I felt a sense of clarity. With Sadie by my side, I knew that we could weather any storm, even a year apart.
In the coming days, I discussed the opportunity with Sadie and my colleagues. Everyone understood the significance of the opportunity and offered their support. We made plans for how we would stay connected during my time in Italy, and I knew that our love would be the guiding force that would carry us through the year apart.
As the day of departure approached, Sadie and I stood at the airport, holding each other close. Our hearts were heavy with the prospect of being apart, but we also knew that this journey was a stepping stone to a brighter future.
"Take care of yourself, Harrison," Sadie said, her voice soft with emotion. "And know that I'll be here, cheering you on every step of the way."
"I love you, Sadie," I replied, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I'll carry you in my heart, and we'll be together again before we know it."
With that, I boarded the plane, carrying with me the love and support of the woman I cherished. As the plane took off, I looked out the window, feeling a mixture of excitement and sadness. I knew that this year in Italy would be a transformative experience, both professionally and personally.
And through it all, I knew that our love would be the thread that bound us together, no matter the distance or time apart. With Sadie in my heart, I felt ready to embrace the journey ahead, knowing that our love would guide us through every twist and turn, forever entwined in the promise of a love that knew no bounds.
