Chapter seventy eight

I wondered what they have given her to drink that she is so deep in sleep, not stirring a bit, not even from the bumping of the car. Thinking about what the driver had mentioned about her being drugged, it is likely that that's what happened. I just hope that it's not a drug that will have imminent side effect, or else, she's doomed.
"Sir, you said she might be drugged. Is that why she is sleeping so deep? I asked him, inquisitively, while momentarily staring down at Clarinet.
He looked at me from the rear-view mirror, then sighed. "I just guessed, more like an assumption. So, I am not so sure if she is, that was why I used the word, might. Yeah." He answered, looking away from the rear-view mirror.
I looked down at Clarinet, still not satisfied with what the driver said. Something was wrong somewhere. Right now, I can't really say what, since she is still asleep and I cannot question her. I decided to ask the driver again, maybe I could provoke him to say something that I needed to hear.
"Sir, uhm. Do you know anything about the bar she went to, that made you make such a statement? I asked, with hope that he will say something useful.
"I drop some clients here at times, just on rare occasions though. Most of them, as I noticed are very rich and I usually get tipped with a lot of money by them. The last time I took a client there, he asked if I could work personally for him and he would pay me. Well, he mentioned a huge sum of money, but I rejected it."
He stopped talking after that, then I knew immediately that, he was hiding something or he was reluctant to say what it was.
"What happened? Why did you reject such an offer? I asked curiously.
"Well, uhm. His kind of business made me not to accept it. You see, I'm not supposed to be revealing this type of information to you. Just, forget it." He said, afterwards.
"Sir." I paused and stared at Clarinet once more, tears almost welling up my eyes. "I have my friend here who might be battling with her life in the next few hours if care is not taken. Luckily, you are the one around here, will you let her die, when you have something that could help her? I asked in a tensed tone.
He shook his read vigorously, before he replied. "Juwie, I will only tell you this because it is you. You are my main client okay, on another occasion, I won't."
"Thank you so much, I won't forget your kindness to me sir." I replied, smiling cooly,to give him the impression that I am happy with him.
He started, "I told the man that, before I could accept such a job, that I would love to know and see the kind of things he does. If it's something I can cope with, then, I will accept it, if not, I won't." He stopped a little bit to catch his breathe, then he continued again.
"After I dropped him in the so called bar, he asked me to follow him, so he can show me what he does. That was when I knew that, this bar was just a camouflage, the main thing is what they do underground. It's a secret place, just few people know about it."
He stopped talking he tried to dodge the traffic, almost colliding with another car coming from a different direction. I almost screamed, but I had to hold myself. When we entered the next street, that will lead to my house, he began to talk.
"You see, many people go to the bar to drink, but the main people do not go there for drinks, they go there for big business. Girl trafficking, sales of organs, sales of drugs, real money gambling and some I can't remember. My client was a drug dealer, so I knew I would definitely be affected if I joined, so I backed down. Though, I had to swell not to mention it to anyone, whosoever." He finished.
I knew what he meant by that statement. But, I pretended I didn't understand and I didn't hear the last statement. "Thank you sir for the needful information." I thanked him.
The driver stopped the car just infront of the house as soon as we got there. I tried carrying Clarinet into the house, after getting the keys from her bag, but she was too heavy for me.
Luckily, the driver saw what was happening and came around to help me. We were able to take her to the room where she was lain and the driver left, promising to come back if I called for assistance.
I thanked him for his kind gestures and waited for him to leave before I went back into the room. I undressed Clarinet and cleaned her up with a towel and warm soapy water. After that, I put her night dress on her.
I was so hungry and tired, with this that Clarinet added to the already stressed body. I checked the kitchen, opening pots only to find all of them empty. Clarinet didn't cook before going to work as she was supposed to, atleast she was the one who brought up the idea. I wonder what she did that she couldn't meet up with it.
I was so tired to think about cooking, let alone lifting my hands up to do anything that concerns cooking in the kitchen.
I went back to the room and took my purse from my back to check how much I had intact. It was enough to get some plates of food from the eatery close to the house and I would have my balance as well.
I counted some money out of it and put it in my backside trouser pocket. I left my phone in the house. Grabbing the keys from the bed where I kept it, then walked out of the house. I locked the door and pocketed the keys, then I walked down to the end of the Street where the eatery stood.
When I got there, I met of of the sales representative there and asked her to give me some plates of rice. The recipe I requested for was no available, according to what she said.
I asked her to give me the list of the food available, which she did. I checked them out, but none of them seemed to suit the taste of food I wanted for the night.
I asked if she had stew available, though it wasn't on the list she gave me. She answered that there was stew available.
I told her to give me some plate of stew and chicken, with some fritters of fish inside of it, with plain rice on another plate.
The lady packaged the food for me and I paid her directly with the cash I left the house with. As soon as I got my food fully packaged and settled, ready to leave, I took them carefully and started walking back to the house.
This environment was not usually so safe especially at this time of the night. So, I walked so fast, hoping to get back home at some set time.
I was able to get home about ten to fifteen minutes after I left the eatery. I was literarily run-walking, if there was anything like that. I was freaking scared of those scoundrels that come around this side at night just to disturb innocent people and take their things from them.
Luckily, I got home safely without meeting any of those crazy people and I was so glad I got home without getting scared. I couldn't keep up with trekking alone in this area, Sometimes I wonder how Clarinet does that.
I unlocked the door and walked inside the house, locking it behind me and checking it properly, just to be sure I did lock it so well.
I walked to the bed room to check how Clarinet was doing. She was still deeply asleep that I wondered if she would wake up this night. I was beginning to get scared of something happening to her. But, hearing her breath .soundly without any air obstruction gave me hope.
I left the room to the kitchen, still clutching the bag I returned home with. When I got to the entrance of the kitchen, I kicked the door open and went in.
I poured the stew I bought into a small pot, turned on the gas cooker and put the pot on fire, and allowed it to cook for a little bit. While it was on fire, I turned the rice into a pot as well. Satisfied with how long the stew has been on fire, I took it down and put the rice, leaving it on fire for about five minutes, before I put it down and turned off the gas cooker.
I dished out some of it into a plate and sat down to eat. It felt boring sitting all alone on the chair all by myself and eating. If Clarinet was here, she would have spiced it up maybe with a joke or something.
I wished she would stand up so soon.
