Chapter eighty three

Since Juwie got to know about my secret relationship with Jide, she has been deliberately ignoring me and keeping her distance. She doesn't reply my greetings when I greet her. When she comes home from work and I'm in the house, she pretends she does not seem me and go on with her business. She even starts preparing her food separately, she literarily stopped talking to me and I felt so bad about it.
I couldn't blame her, I might have done worse than her if I were in her shoes though. But, it was killing me deep down.
Juwie was my closest friend and I didn't have anyone I could actually talk to as much as I did with Juwie. Even though we had our worse times and the times where we fought, that didn't batter the relationship I had with her. She was more like a sister, my best friend and my special advisor, even though I hardly take her advice to heart.
She was a lifesaver and the reason why I am usually in a better position. I know Juwie was a mess some time ago, when she used to live in the streets, before she studied to become the nurse she is now.
I know she was crazy and living in hell then, but after she went through school, she changed. I didn't know her so much then, we only started talking about five years ago when I allowed her to stay with me in my previous house.
We became close thereafter, behaved like sisters that she told me almost everything about her and me the same as well.
I know I messed up big time, but then, we cannot continue like this in the same house. It would result to only two things. Either, she decides to leave the house, which leaves me here alone and that's trouble, or she refunds my part of the money of the rent to me and chase me out, which is double trouble. Either ways, I still will be the one to suffer everything.
I needed to make things straight and right with her, not just for the fact that I might end up being thrown out of the house, but for the fact that I was the cause of all these things. Also, I would be damned if she goes as far as telling Collins about my affair with Jide, a married man.
I returned home from work by some minutes past 4 PM. Juwie wasn't back from work when I returned. I got some food stuffs on my way home. I was going to prepare her favorite food with my special recipe and I would use that to lure her into accepting my apologies. I hope that would work out well though.
She loves plain rice so much with chicken and fish sauce together and that was what I was going to prepare this evening.
First of all, I went to the bathroom to wash myself off the sweat from work. Then, I put on a simple dress and flew straight to the kitchen to start work.
Earlier today, I had heard her talking with someone on the phone and I presumed it to be her colleague, she said she will be returning home late, around 8 PM, since she will be off the next day. I used that opportunity to think a way out of the mess I created with my own hands.
Getting to the kitchen, I started with preparing all the ingredients I needed to make the sauce. Cutting the green peas, the carrots, the cucumber, the cabbage. I sieved the sweet corn and baked beans and the other veggies I would be using for sauce.
Done with that, I washed the chicken and fish I got. Started with boiling and seasoning the chicken, which after it was almost done, I added the fish.
I sliced and prepared the veggies I needed for the salad. When as was finished with all I needed to prepare the sauce, I launched into action.
It took me about twenty minutes to get the sauce done and believe me, it was tasty. I put water on fire to boil rice for the sauce.
I mixed the remaining veggies for the salad in a big bowl and out it inside the fridge, so it doesn't get bad before the next day.
A little while after I was done with preparing the rice. I cleaned up the kitchen and tidied it till it was sparkling. It was few minutes past 7 PM when I rounded up with the cooking, so I spent almost three hours in the kitchen to put this food in place. I hope my work doesn't go unnoticed and unrewarded.
I took some food to eat, so that, if Juwie refuses my offer, I would have taken something that would aid me in my sleep tonight.
After eating, I washed off the plate and went to have a shower. I changed into my night dress afterwards, as I sat down in the little sitting room patiently waiting for Juwie to return home from work.
I was timing her, since I knew she would come back home by Eight. At exactly 8: 37pm, I heard a car stop in front of the house. I knew immediately that her cab driver had dropped her off from work.
You could have seen me shivering and distressed on the sofa where I sat. I tried as much as I could to keep myself calm, but it looked like it wasn't going to happen.
As soon as she opened the door, I jumped up to my feet and all of a sudden, I became I stammerer.
"Hi, Juwie. Welcome home. How was work today? Were you stressed so much? I asked, smiling sheepishly and secretly hoping she would listen to me.
Juwaya stared at me for a while as if she was seeing a stranger for the fast time. I am sure she almost asked who I was and what I was looking for. She ignored me as usual and went into the room, with me following after her.
I knew I had to do something about the situation or else I would pay dearly for it.
