Chapter seventy seven

I returned home from work very late this evening, feeling so tired and totally distressed. My day at work was so stressful and I really felt the impact and weight it had on me so much, that I had to wonder if this isn't the job I have been doing for the past five years.
I got to the front of the house and tried opening the door, but it couldn't open up, so I guessed that Clarinet was not back from work, or she probably went out to see someone.
I unzipped my handbag and deeped my hand inside of it, insearch of the keys to the door. I couldn't find it in the usual spot it usually is, in the small side pocket of the bag. I dropped the plastic bag I was holding on my other hand, on the ground, so I can check it properly.
I squatted, so I could look for the keys well. I searched for the keys for about five minutes, but unfortunately for me, I couldn't find it where I thought I kept it.
Oh goodness! I cried in my heart. I am so tired that I don't need this type of stress to add to the already stressed body of mine.
I dug out my phone from my bag to call my roommate, atleast if she knows that I am stuck outside, then she might pity me and come back home on time.
Her phone rang twice, but she didn't pick it up. I sent her a message after that and waited for a response from her. I didn't get any call from her and it was getting me so pissed of.
Where has this young lady gone to. Seriously, she just doesn't tell me where she goes to at times, like she is hiding something from me. Clarinet closes from work every single day, very early in the evening. If she catches the first bus that evening, she might be lucky to get home atleast by 4:30, if not by 5 pm she should be back. This is past 7 pm and she is no where near home! Perhaps, she really is hiding something. If she is, then I must definitely find out myself.
I dialed her number again, in anger, waiting impatiently to hear a voice from the other end. Finally, when the ring was about to end, she picked the call.
"Hey Juwie. What bothers you this time of the night? I can see some calls from you that I missed, what is it? She asked like she was high or something.
"Clarinet! I screamed, almost at the top of my voice. I had to calm myself down to talk to her again.
"Is everything okay? Clarinet asked a bit less concerned and giggling to herself.
"Clarinet, where are you? Huh? I am stranded outside the house, I can't find my keys in my bag where I kept it. I need to go into the house. Can you come back home quickly? Please. I pleaded, hoping that she was not far from the house.
"Oh my, I am sorry, it's just that..." She paused, belching loudly, that I had to take the phone far from me ear.
"Oh no, Clarinet. Are you drunk? I asked alarmed. "Who is with you there? Where did you go to? Who did you go with? I asked horrified.
"I came here with my new found boyfriend, you know that huge guy I mentioned some time ago." She answered still giggling like a little child.
"No no no no no, this isn't happening. Girl, where the hell are you? Tell me where you are so I can come pick you up." I requested.
She laughed lightly and belched again. "Uhm, some kind of place, it's like, a bar?" She belched again. "I think it's called the Fevrity. Yeah, that's what it's called." She replied.
"Oh goodness Clarinet. Please, stay where you are, don't go anywhere, I will come pick you up myself, do you understand me? I ordered.
"That's if he doesn't get here before you." She replied, still giggling.
I knew immediately that it was the effect of the drink she might have taken. I wonder what she took that made her drunk and a bit insane for the moment.
At this time, I was no longer worried about how tired I was or how I needed to take a rest. I knew I wasn't this type of person you can call, kind hearted, yeah, I know and I don't really care. But, when it comes to Clarinet who happens to be my roommate, my friend and even family to me, I activate the little kind heart of mine.
I called the driver that usually takes me to work everyday. His house was just some stone throw and within five minutes, he was just infront of my house. I explained the situation that I was involved in and I asked him to take me to the place Clarinet had mentioned earlier.
The driver told me that I cannot possibly get in there that easily, because it is sometimes by invitation, except I could find my way through. I didn't mind that, I just asked him to take me to the place still.
We got there in about ten minutes time and I jumped out of the car. Luckily, I saw Clarinet outside the bar laughing loudly to no one in particular, but herself. Some guys there weren't paying attention to her, but we're busy with their discussion. With the help of the driver who got done from his car, we put Clarinet into the car and the driver drove us out of the place.
I made Clarinet lie on my laps. As soon as her head touched my laps, she was fast asleep, snoring like an elephant.
I used my fingers to caress her face quietly as I watched her sleep and even talk in her sleep.
"She might have been drugged." The driver said, looking at us through the front mirror.
"I don't know, I guess I will find out when she wakes up." I replied.
"You have to warn her. She might not be lucky next time." He advised.
"Thank you. I will do that."
For the rest of the journey, no one said any other word. I hoped sincerely that she would recall whatever happened, when she finally wakes up.
