Chapter 77

NORA
After talking to Mira on phone, I left Lucian's room and went back to mine. I couldn't say a word to him. I was so shocked. Shocked down to my marrow. I only tried to cover it up with smiles. I still can't believe Lucian belongs to the royal family. Mira just invited me over for their anniversary, which will come up in a few days. She wanted me to get to, even when she was sure Lucian won't want me to. She thought our relationship is real and that's the reason proposed. I sat down on the bed. The chain I saw in his shirt pocket with the royal symbol, really did depict royalty. Why didn't anyone know about his royal identity? Why doesn't he talk about that? I sighed. There is so much about Lucian and the more I thought I've known him, the more I found out I haven't. I rolled my eyes. What more is yet to be unfolded in the life of Lucian? He seems to have more secret than Jasper and Arden knows. Talking of Arden, it's been a while since we talked. I think talking to him might answer some of my questions. I picked up my phone and placed a call to him. "Hi, Arden"
"It seems someone finally remembered me today"
I chuckled. "I'm sorry have not been able to call you for a while now"
"I guess you're enjoying your stay in Paris"
I chuckled. "Not really"
"Well to me. It doesn't look like it"
I groaned. "You can't..."
"Did Lucian propose to you as the rumor said?" He asked, cutting me short
I rolled my eyes. "He did. Though..."
"And you said yes?"
I blinked my eyes. "I did. I..."
"You shouldn't have. I think Lucian has a motive. You..."
"I know he has a motive. I know he wants to use me as bait to get back at Jasper"
"You mean he wants to use you to get back at Jasper?" He asked, surprise evident in his voice.
I rolled my eyes. Wait. He doesn't know. "You don't know?"
"I don't. I thought he wanted to marry you, just to get the media off his neck and also get back at you for threatening him"
I groaned. How come Arden doesn't know and Jasper knows? I rolled my eyes. Am I missing something? "That's not his plan, Arden. He wants to use me to get back at Jasper. He thinks he likes me"
"Nora, I think it's high time you come back to Scotland. Your life might be at risk"
"I know"
He sighed. "If Lucian wants to use you to get back at Jasper because he thinks he likes you, it's going to be deadly"
I sighed. "I know but as a journalist, I need to find out the truth"
"Nora..."
"Arden, I did not call you, so you can change my mind. I need to be here to help Lucian. I'm the only one that can help Lucian and I need to do it"
He sighed. "I understand. But..."
"No, but"
He sighed. "So to what do I owe this call?"
"I want to ask you something. I will be happy if you can tell me nothing but the truth"
"I will try as much as I can to tell you. For as long as it will help you get the truth"
I sighed. "Is Lucian from a royal family?". He coughed. I could tell he was trying to either avoid my question or hide his surprise. "Are you there, Arden?. Are you ok?"
"Yes... Yes..." He stuttered slightly
I rolled my eyes. "Arden, I need you to be truthful to me. Mira just invited me for their anniversary at the palace. I need to be sure about what I will face when I get there"
He sighed. "Lucian is royal. He's the only son and the heir to the throne. But he doesn't want to be identified with royalty, I will advise you to decline Mira's request"
I batted my lashes. "Why doesn't he want to be identified with royal?"
"It's a long story, Nora. You shouldn't get involved"
I rolled my eyes. "I need..."
"Nora, please. Don't get involved. It's going to open up another part of his life which had been buried"
I sighed. "I will try as much as I can, not to get involved"
"Is that a promise?"
"I promise"
The call ended and I dropped my phone on the table. I sighed. The matter is more complicated than l thought. Maybe Arden is right. I shouldn't get involved. I stood up from the bed. I think it's high time I go back home and not let Jasper use me. I arranged my bags and dragged them out. I was about to close the door when I heard a voice. I turned to see Lucian, standing and staring at me. It seems he was on a call but cut it when he saw me. I rolled my eyes. "You're leaving?"
I sighed. "I need to go back to Scotland. I need to tell my parent about our marriage" I lied. He stared at me but said nothing. "I should leave"
I made to drag my back. "Wait. Why don't we leave tomorrow together?"
I batted my lashes. Is he kidding me? "I can't. I have to go"
"Are you sure you're leaving because you want to talk to your parent?"
I rolled my eyes. "Yes"
He sighed. "I will drop you off at the airport"
"No, thanks. I will go alone"
"Are you sure?"
I nodded. "Yes"
He sighed but said nothing. I walked past him but he held my hand. I stopped. "I just wish you would stay just for this night. So we could play games for the last time together". I sighed and turned to face him. "Please"
"Just once"
He nodded. "Sure"
I rolled my eyes. "If that is the case, you will have to return my bag to my room"
He bowed. "As your lordship pleases"
I watched him drag the bags into the room and sighed. Hope I did not make the wrong choice staying back.
