Chapter 6 The River Crossing

Geo
"If we were under a different sky, maybe we'd be friends, you know? I'm really comfortable with you." The words slipped my tongue before I could stop myself and I watched the confusion flicker in her eyes.
I mean, kidnapping her wasn't part of the plan at all. I initially wanted to come face to face with the alpha and take him down but I chickened out when I saw how mighty he stood the moment he opened the door. I was actually planning to leave and just come back when I'm ready but of course she has got to pin me to the ground and I was left with no other choice but to take her along with me. Later on, I figured out that she's the alpha's daughter and only then decided to just ask a ransom from her father in exchange for her. Sounds better than the previous plan actually.
However, the moment she gained consciousness and started talking to me, I just felt something. It's almost calming down the rage within me and now I find myself keeping track of my revenge plot because when she talks, smiles, or when she's too close to me, I feel so lost. There's something about her that's too pleasant for my liking. I'm supposed to resent her, but I just can't. And honestly, I don't want to harm her at all.
When the sun is already up in the sky, we decided to start heading east to where she claimed the witch would be. I don't know why it's easy for me to trust her but I very much do. Shaking the feeling off, I just continued following her through the mist. We had been walking for hours when we heard running water and soon came upon a river with a very strong current.
"We're going to cross?" I asked.
"There's no other way around." She hesitantly answer.
"This would be easier if we would just shift into our wolves you know?" I pointed out and she shook her head.
"We can't it's too dangerous. Shifting into our wolves means tapping into our powers and just so you know that's the very thing that this witch is collecting, so no. Let's just try jumping over the rocks." She suggested and I just nodded. She was about to start crossing the river but I stopped her.
I saw how she struggled climbing up and down that mountain we were on, I'm sure she'd also struggle in this river. "Let me take the lead, you're not very good with rocks." I offered and she reluctantly agreed. I took her hand and carefully navigated the river one step at a time considering how Ven's shaking legs slips almost every time she takes a step and when we were at the middle of the raging current I stopped. "The next stone is too far, we need to make a leap for it." I stated.
"A what?" She asked as I let go of her hand and jumped to the next rock which is very slippery and doesn't even have a flat surface for her to land on. "That's freaking far!" She exclaimed.
"Just jump!" I retorted.
"And if I fall?" There goes that frustrated face again.
"You won't." I reassured although there's a big possibility that she would actually fall. She doesn't have to know though.
"Why not?" I laughed at that.
"I know you don't trust me but you'll just have to trust me with this one. Jump!" I said, suddenly the fear and hesitation in her eyes just disappeared and before I knew it, she landed into my arms, almost making me lose my balance but I spun us around and held her close by the waist to gain momentum. Our faces are inches apart once again and I almost drowned in her ocean blue eyes. There's something so familiar about her eyes.
"Geo..." She trailed off and my heart skipped a beat for some reason.
"Yes Ven?" I just have to match the softness of her tone.
She then cleared her throat snapping me out of the trance that I'm in. So I looked away from her, let go of her waist, and held her hand as we continued crossing the river. Five more steps to go and we're finally on the other side and I immediately let go of her hand not wanting another awkward moment with my supposed to be captive.
"Ven?" I started off as we continued to walk. "Have you ever faced a witch before?" I asked. I mean, we're technically going to face one sooner and I don't have any experience with witches so, it would really put my mind at ease if she does. She seems to know a lot about magic.
"No." Oh well... "But my grandma always tells me stories of her battle with a witch when I was younger." She provided.
"How is that supposed to help us?" I pouted.
"It won't, I was too young to remember. Like three years old... Young." I chuckled at her answer. She's so cute. "Why did you ask?"
"Do you think we have a chance to defeat the witch that cast this storm?" I wondered out loud, looking at the mist covered meadow that we're passing by.
"We? Who says I'm gonna help you? You said you're gonna finish her off to get that ransom from my father right? I'm just helping you find her." Her retort made me laugh as I threw my arms around her shoulder.
"You, my captive, is a smart one." I complimented and a red tinge appeared on her cheeks. Is she blushing?
"Thanks, I get that a lot though." We laughed.
The sound of a twig snapping made us halt in our track. Ven and I stood on guard looking around, and sure enough a wolf jumped out from the bushes and Ven delivered a straight punch, hitting its eye. Then two other wolves appeared, circling us. I grabbed a considerably long and thick stick lying just by our feet and met their charges with it. I smacked the gray wolf and then the brown one, manipulating the stick as if it was a sword. The gray wolf lunged at me with its mouth wide open and I thrust the sharp end of the stick inside making sure to pierce its throat and it hoed in pain as I succeeded. The brown then leapt behind me making me fall face first on the ground, I heard it's canines retracting but before it could bite me, someone pulled it off of me, Ven.
She managed to pull it off of me but she was tackled by it instead. So grabbed another stick and hurled it at the wolf like a spear. It landed on the wolf's neck, effectively killing it. It shifted into its human form and fell right on top of Ven who screamed in horror. She kicked the naked man's corpse and sent it flying towards another one of its companions. Making sure that the three are already dead, I looked at Ven and can't decide whether I should be worried about her or I should laugh at her state.
"What!?" She spat when she turned to me and it was then that I laughed, really hard. She then lunged at me shoving and punching my chest but I just couldn't stop laughing as I circled my left hand around her waist and caught both her fists with my right.
"Hey stop! Is this how you thank me for saving your life?" I managed to say in between laughter.
"It's not funny! It's gross!" She exclaimed, trying to wiggle free from my hold, but I didn't waver and just held her even closer.
"At least I saved your life. How else did you have wanted me to do it huh?" I challenged.
"Ahhh! Let's just get on with this." She said and I loosened my hold on her enough for her to break free but I'm still very close behind. Unfortunately for her though, our path is covered by three naked corpses and there just seemed to be no other way around because the bushes are thorny. I felt her trembling so I scooped her off her feet and carried her bridal style.
"Come on." I said, stepping over the corpses with no problem at all. Gosh this girl is so dramatic, don't get me wrong I'm not complaining.
"You can put me down now." She huffed when we're a few meters away from the dead bodies. We spotted a lake. "Hey, wanna go for a swim?" She offered and I vigorously shook my head. "Okay then, I'll go though. I need to wash the dirt and blood off my skin and hair." She said.
"Do you have another set of clothes to wear after that though?" I pointed out as she took off the cloak that she has been wearing and it was only then that I actually got a good look at her figure clad in a fitted shirt and some flare pants, and I must say, she's quite sexy.
"Of course not, do you?" She retorted and I chuckled.
"Even if I do have, I won't let you borrow them." I said.
She huffed and hid behind some bushes to take off her clothes and hang it there. I looked away to give her some privacy and when I looked back, she's already dipped in the water. I do want to cool off too but I'm not really comfortable having to be fully naked and dip on the same waters with another she-wolf. Yes we have the same parts but I have a tendency to be easily aroused in circumstances like that so no. I'd rather not make this revenge plan more complicated than it already is.
