Chapter 5 Trust and Treachery

Ven
Our faces are inches apart, the tip of our noses almost touching and our bodies molded perfectly together. If we were under different circumstances, I would've just kissed him now but...
Geo cleared his throat and I snapped back to my senses, immediately pulling away from the rather intimate position that we found ourselves in. Ahhh what is the matter with me?
I stood up and examined the cabin we are in and found out that it's pretty decent with a bedroom, small bathroom, kitchen, and living space. It doesn't look like somebody has been living here for a while now though.
"So, how did you find this cabin in the middle of the storm?" I asked, just to break the silence.
"Woke up a few steps away from it actually." He answered, looking at me intently. Perhaps he's thinking that I would make a run for it but honestly, I don't plan on doing so.
"Do you know this place?" I asked again, peeping through the window to see nothing but mist.
"Not very well. It's part of the free lands but I don't live in this part." He answered.
Okay, so we may have a major problem then. "Right, we need to find a higher ground where the mist won't be very thick. Since we have no choice but to navigate through it, I'm advising you to not shift no matter what happens." I stated. "Do you have any food with you?"
He chuckled, passing me a bag filled with wild berries and I thanked him. I think this will do. After popping a few, I then nodded at him. "Let's go?" The sooner we get through this, the better.
He opened the door for me and I smiled. So he's actually quite a gentleman. "Stay close." He whispered behind me and I nodded. The forest sounds restless and I can feel the tension of all the creatures here because they know exactly what is going on and I just tried to calm my nerves. We walked for about 30 minutes before we spotted something like a mountain up ahead and headed there. However, before we can reach its base...
"Stop." He said and I did. "Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?" As soon as I finished the question, a wolf lunged at us, Geo dodged but I was tackled to the ground. Its paws pinned my shoulders and it barred its canines at me. I used my knee and hit it by the neck making it let go of one of my shoulders. I was about to deliver a punch when it was kicked out from above me and Geo lunged at it using a fallen branch. I didn't see clearly how he maneuvered through the thick mist but minutes later, I heard a cry and then...
"There." Geo emerged beside me, blood splattering all over him. Oh gosh, he killed it that easily. "Let's keep moving." He took my hand with his bloody one and I just complied. How ever the hell he did what he did gave me goosebumps. He's a rogue after all, and rogues are known to be very dangerous.
The mountain that we are about to climb turns out to be very rocky, but Geo navigated through as if he was climbing a well paved staircase whilst I kept slipping and almost falling. Oh my gosh!
"Ahh!" I screamed when my foot slipped again and I wasn't quick enough to hold on to a rock, thankfully Geo grabbed my hand and pulled me up with him. My knees are trembling already and I'm just too scared to even go further. "C-can we stop now? I-I think we're high enough." I stammered.
"If you say so. There's a cave in here, we can just camp here." He said and I sighed. I sat down on a flat rock inside the cave trying to calm my nerves as Geo just stood at the cliff, looking at the mist filled forest. "What are we looking for?" He suddenly asked.
"What do you see?" I asked.
"Only mist so far. How huge can this dome be?" He inquired, still looking out there.
"It can cover a territory as big as ours." I stated, finally standing up to join him.
"We need to climb higher then, we can't get a 360 degree view from up here." I looked up at the rougher terrain ahead and tried to protest but... "I can carry you up there."
What? Before I could protest, he crouched down in front of me and hoisted me up for a piggyback ride. I wound my arms lightly around his neck and just let him carry me throughout the hike. His scent filled my nostrils and his breathing graced my ears like a calming melody, and needless to say, I'm loving the feeling of being close to him. I just don't know if he felt that too.
My dose of cloud nine was short lived though as we reached the top of the mountain and Geo set me down. There's almost no mist up here and we can see everything.
"Now what are we looking for?" He asked again.
"We're looking for the eye of the storm, it's the only place where the mist isn't around." I said, scanning the area intently.
"You have got to be kidding me, it's everywhere, except on the higher grounds." He scoffed.
"The higher grounds don't count. Look, over there." I pointed to the east. "The swirl of the mist is much more compacted, I think the witch may be somewhere over there."
"You said it's an area where the mist isn't around!" He protested.
"Yes, but that area is surrounded by the thickest ring of mist because the magic came from there. We can't see it clearly from up here but I bet it's in there." I explained. Suddenly, the skies thundered and it started pouring, great just great!
"We need to get back to the cave to take cover." He said as he pulled me to him and jumped his way off of the top and into the entrance of the cave. He looks so calm about what he did while I almost had a heart attack. Man! I don't know how long I'd be able to survive in a terrain like this that I just wished dad would find me soon. However, my father is smart and I know he would never dare to enter the storm once he sees it, so my hope of salvation just died as soon as it lit up.
"Is this normal rain or is it magic?" Geo asked, rubbing two sticks together to start a fire.
"You tell me, you seem to be an expert in this kind of rough environment. Does it rain ever so randomly in the mountains?" I returned the question and he chuckled, probably seeing the frustration in my face.
"It does." He nodded. The fire he made started roaring to life and I sighed, its warmth providing the comfort that I badly needed right now. And before I knew it, I fell asleep.
I woke up in the middle of the night and found Geo sound asleep on the other side of the bonfire. I admired his features that are emphasized by the light from the flame and smiled. He looks divine with perfectly shaped and thick eyebrows, long eyelashes, freckles on the side of the eye, plump lips, defined jawline, and masculine neck that leads to a chiseled looking chest underneath the coat. Oh... He's, dare I say, perfect. My feet must have a mind of their own as I suddenly found myself walking towards him. I settled a few inches away and was about to adhere to the temptation of touching his dark locks when he suddenly sat up and glared at me.
"What do you think you are doing?" He growled and I quickly placed my hand on my lap.
"Nothing." I said, but he wasn't convinced so I went back to where I laid down earlier and just gave him a slight smile. He must be thinking that I'm crazy right? I mean he kidnapped me and here I am, smiling at him. What a weirdo.
"For someone that has been kidnapped, you look very calm Ven." Okay, he's pointing it out now. How am I supposed to respond to that.
"Well, looks can be deceiving you know?" I'm highly trained to look calm all the time, the pack needs calm and collected leaders after all." I lied. I mean yes that could be one of the reasons but not the main reason at the moment.
"Are you next in line for the Aloha position?" He asked. Ahhh, clearly he doesn't read any gossip magazines.
"No, I have an older brother but we're trained in the same manner though." I answered. It's amusing to know that there are still werewolves who don't know my brother since he's oh so famous, next to Archer of course.
"I see. How old are you?" Now he's trying to get to know me?
"20." I chuckled. "And you?" Might as well return the favor.
"29." What? He must've seen my shocked expression because he chuckled. "Can't believe it?"
"You don't look 29." I stated and he just shrugged off.
"You know what Ven, there's something about you that I can't quite put my fingers on." My heart raced at that as he looked at me intently. Is he going to say it now? Is he finally going to say the words that I've been longing to hear? "If we were under a different sky, maybe we'd be friends, you know? I'm really comfortable with you."
