Logan's POV
The meeting was over. Taking a deep breath, I prepared more files on my desk. After the tense discussion, I realized that I had to work harder. Maybe because I was too carried away by the happiness of my married life, I was not as focused on work as usual. That had to change soon; I had to stay professional.
Clara, my secretary, approached me and looked at the remaining tasks that I still had to complete. “Can I help you, sir?” she asked in a helpful tone.
“Well, I’m still collecting files. Please help me!” I replied, seeking her support.
Clara immediately started organizing the documents and gathering the necessary data. “Are there any particular priorities that I should pay attention to?” she asked, professional in her approach.
“Yes, these files need to be prepared for the next presentation. We need to show that we are working to improve this situation,” I explained, feeling eager to catch up on my slack.
“Okay, I’ll speed it up,” Clara replied, and I could see her dedication. She was a valuable asset to the team, and I relied heavily on her to help keep things organized.
As we worked together, my mind wandered. I remembered how happy I was at home with Emma and the kids. But the responsibilities of the office were not something I could ignore. Work-life balance was crucial, and I had to make sure I didn’t neglect one or the other.
As Clara worked, I began to organize the files in front of me, trying to prioritize. “We need to have a follow-up meeting with the team after this to discuss concrete steps we’re going to take. We need to think of creative solutions to attract investors back,” I said, determined.
Clara nodded, looking ready and committed. “Sure, sir. Would you like me to schedule that meeting?”
“Yes, please. We need all hands on deck to make sure we’re moving in the right direction,” I replied, as she began to take notes.
With renewed energy and a clear plan, I knew I wasn’t alone in this struggle. Thanks to Clara and the team, I am confident that I will be able to get back on track and maintain the right balance between work and life. I will do my best to show the client that we are serious about fixing things.
As Clara continued to work, I focused on the files and notes that needed to be prepared. Today was my chance to prove that I was not only a husband or father, but also a professional who was capable of facing the challenges at hand.
As I pondered all the things that needed to be taken care of, a sudden thought crossed my mind. “Oh, I almost forgot! Tomorrow is Scarlett’s wedding. I haven’t bought her a gift yet!” I said, feeling a little panicked.
Clara turned from her work, looking surprised. “Oh no, sir! We have to find something special for her right away. A wedding is such an important moment!”
“Right. I want to give her something meaningful, something that will remind her and Ethan of the love we have,” I replied thoughtfully.
“How about we go shopping at a nearby wedding store during lunch?” Clara offered, looking eager to help.
“That’s a great idea. Let’s do that,” I said, feeling lucky to have Clara as my secretary who was not only professional but also supportive in important moments.
In my mind, I began to ponder what kind of gift would be appropriate. Maybe a beautiful picture frame to display their wedding memories or maybe something more personal and sentimental. I wanted Scarlett to feel that she was greatly appreciated as a friend and that I supported her new step in life.
“Come on, we need to plan to leave before all the stores close. We don’t want to be late and get nothing,” I said, feeling excited to find the right gift.
Clara nodded, and our spirits rose. The moment to show support and affection for my best friend, Scarlett, became even more enjoyable when I realized how important these moments were in our lives.
I chose Clara to accompany me during the gift search instead of Emma so that I could minimize the time and stay focused on the work. When we arrived at the accessories store, I began to look at the various options that might be suitable for Scarlett.
However, suddenly my eyes were caught by a very familiar figure at the back of the store. It was Emma! “What are you doing here?” I asked, approaching her with a little surprise.
Her face looked doubtful, and I could feel the tension in the air. “Oh, I was just… looking around,” she replied, but her tone made me feel a little jealous.
At that point, I explained that I was looking for a gift for Scarlett, and apparently, Emma had also found herself looking for the same gift. “Clara here helped me, and—”
But before I could finish my sentence, Emma looked even more depressed. “So, you two came here together? Why didn’t you tell me?” she said, her voice filled with distress.
“Emma, it’s not what you think. I just…” I tried to explain, but she was already consumed by jealousy.
“I don’t need to be explained! I understand!” Emma replied, and without another word, she turned and walked away, leaving us in the middle of the store.
“Emma, wait!” I called out to her, but her resolve to leave was broken.
I felt mixed feelings. One part wanted to run after her and fix the situation, but the other part knew that it might be better to give her some space. “I’m sorry, Clara. I think there’s something I can’t handle yet,” I said to Clara, feeling a pang of guilt creep up on me.
Clara sighed and replied, “Maybe you should follow her. She must be feeling uncomfortable.”
“Yes, but I don’t want to make things worse,” I replied, trying to process everything.
However, I knew that Emma was my priority. “I have to finish this. Thank you, Clara, for your help. I’ll call you once everything is resolved.”
Without waiting any longer, I rushed out of the store, trying to catch up with Emma and hoping that I could still explain everything. In this married life, I have to learn how to keep my feelings in check and communicate well, especially when tensions arise.
When I got home, the atmosphere felt heavy. Emma was still quiet and didn’t look at me when I entered. I guess she was still upset about what happened in the store earlier. I tried to approach her, tried to call her name and hug her, but she refused.
“I need some time alone,” Emma said in a tone that clearly showed that she didn’t want to be disturbed.
My heart felt heavy when I heard that. I tried to explain, “Emma, wait. It’s not what you think. I was looking for a gift for Scarlett, and Clara was just helping out.”
But it seemed like she didn’t want to accept my explanation. “I don’t want to talk about it right now, Logan,” she replied coldly, before heading towards the nursery.
Watching her leave, confusion and guilt began to creep into my mind. Did I do something wrong to her? My heart throbbed as I thought about everything that had happened. I didn’t mean to hurt her feelings, but it seemed like my small actions had caused a big reaction.
I knew that communication was key, and this time I had failed at it. I should have told Emma that I was going to find a gift for Scarlett and asked Clara for help. However, I was too focused on work to think about how Emma felt about the situation.
With careful steps, I made my way to the nursery, where Emma sat on the corner of the bed, looking thoughtful. “Emma, I just want you to know that I love you,” I said, trying to approach her gently. “I would never mean to hurt your feelings.”
She stared at me for a moment, but then she lowered her head. A soft sob could be seen on her face. This was all heartbreaking, and I knew I had to fix it.
“If you need time, I’ll give it to you, but I want us to be able to talk about it. I don’t want to be left like this,” I continued hopefully.
But Emma seemed closed off. “I don’t want to talk about it right now,” she said, her voice shaking.Download Novelah App
